Q: SF golden age short story about being dragged into slow time and seeing by gravity waves

Steven ShaviroI am trying to identify a short story I read years ago. Probably written in the 1950s, give or take a decade. The opening lines were something like, "there were sounds, there were colors." A scientist suddenly finds himself in a world where there is no color, everything is shades of gray. It turn...

Q: Short story about dystopian future consumerism

John HuntI read this short story back in the late 70’s / early 80’s in middle school or high school. It was a dystopian futuristic tale in which society mounted some sort of “speakers” that influence the masses into consuming more goods. One individual tries to convince the others of what’s happening, but...

Q: A sci-fi tv BW movie from the 70s with a mini-sub and a kraken

Bingo MehndraI remember watching a BW sci-fi tv movie from the 70s with two marine biologists (man and woman) doing a routine reconnaissance in a mini-sub similar -but smaller- to the Proteus from the 1966 Fantastic Voyage. They were being chased and wrapped up by a kind of Kraken. The scientists used robot a...

I've seen a few ID questions recently which are really short and low on detail: one, two, three, four. I'm the only downvoter on three of these, but if I wasn't a mod I'd consider voting to close them.
ID questions with very few details might be uniquely identifiable enough to be answerable and not closeworthy (sometimes not even that), but that doesn't make them good questions.

@Randal'Thor Even if you're right, and I'm not disagreeing with you, what should we be doing? For the record, I tried to close a question that was even worse than these and was outvoted.
Not all of them went through review, but the ones that did didn't collect any comments there. (I hope that's not my fault, but I don't remember reviewing them.)
14:15
I'd be rather suprised if Rand's implication was that there ought to be done anything at all, though. So likely nothing.
14:28
So, just general non-directed grumbling? That's fair, though I would have guessed Rand was a bit young yet for that stage. :D
@DavidW Using our downvotes more, perhaps. As I said, they might be uniquely identifiable and therefore not worthy of closing, but at least worthy of downvoting for the poor level of detail.
There's a bunch of very short ID questions where I'm the only downvoter.

Q: Does anyone know why in the new Dr. Strange we will have Gargantus instead of Shuma-Gorath?

Bruno PriorThe new teaser for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was launched and I was thinking the creature I saw there was Shuma-Gorath but a friend told me this creature is Gargantus a lower class creature from Shuma-Gorath race, and that's part of this question is that true? And why Shuma-Gora...

Q: Is there only one dorm per year group at Hogwarts?

Nina MitraI'm re-reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and this line is doing me in: "The dormitory door flew open and in came the other second-year Gryffindor boys, Seamus Finnigan, Dean Thomas, and Neville Longbottom" Am I to understand that an entire year group share one room? At the risk of s...

@Randal'Thor SillyButTrue's answer to my question is pretty good, so if another answer that you prefer doesn't appear before the bounty expires, by all means award it to them.

Q: Is Chief Okko still trapped?

Silly but TrueRecall in Star Wars: Empire’s End issue 1, the Emperor blows a gasket when the initial firing of the Galaxy Gun does not go as planned. This in turn reveals his fraught deteriorating condition of his final clone body. This causes the Emperor an immediate emergency to quickly get some spare bodies...

@Spencer That's the plan. It's more of a "draw attention to a nice existing answer" bounty than a "attract a better answer" bounty.

Q: Was The Blob in the Steve McQueen version of the 1980s remake sentient?

releseabeMaybe not explicitly so, but hinted at that the creature has, for example, some understanding of humans being separate creatures? I thought that in the remake it animates the dead body of a kid, almost as if it is teasing the human who sees this.

Q: Old SF story - two grifters travel in solar system, meet weird aliens on every planet

Jeff ZeitlinI read this in the mid-'90s; the book was from my father's collection and was showing its age. The main characters had to leave Earth for some reason, and wouldn't be pursued because of Earth attitudes toward space travel (or maybe atomic energy). They ended up visiting a lot of the planets, or t...
