@Jenayah Ah was thinking of this comment
that is a good point i thought of it too, but if thats the case then why did war machine and nebula needed a spaceship to get the power stone in morag — Kevin Kurien May 3 at 12:09

alright

4:24 PM
Nice, the 3000 answer got accepted :-)
I still don't get why the question got downvoted so much though

Maybe they wanted to downvote it 3000 times?

uh

Endgame fatigue, people not thinking it meant anything other than a cute saying to his kids (which was technically true)
Nice on the accept though

@TheLethalCarrot fatigue, fatigue... IIRC it got asked like one or two days after
sec
yeah April 26th so two days after release

Like the opposite of the Homework Horror scenario. Let's make this the most-downoted question on SE! ;-)

4:26 PM
I didn't bother looking when it was asked haha
@Jenayah In which case "ERRR MERRRR GERRRD SPOILERZZZZ!!!!1!!!1!!!!!!1111!!!" Downvote!

The title was literally "What is this character a reference to" and the only spoiler thing wasn't that much of a spoiler
I mean... Considering who it's about there was way much more to spoil ;)

@Jenayah You know, people actually...still read the question body anyway. ;-)

There's no reasoning with people that complain about spoilers after having clicked on the question

Well hadn't we established that it was stupid to read a question about something you didn't want to be spoiled about

And some people think just that character A is in the film is a spoiler

4:29 PM
@TheLethalCarrot You'd think, eh?

"Rocket is in the movie, it's a spoiler!" His freaking picture is on the poster mate

"I don't look at posters, they're spoilers!!!!!"
As I've said numerous times what people think of as a spoiler is highly subjective
Some people think that anything and everything is one
Others like me, think only the major points are spoilers but don't mind reading them before seeing something

They announced that they’re gonna have a new Star Wars trilogy (who guessed)

Well they announced 3 new films, didn't say it was a trilogy unless things have changed

Wasn't there supposed to be some Boba Fett film?

4:32 PM
@Stormblessed After the new trilogy which took place after the new trilogy which was before the first trilogy, which is then considered the new trilogy?

Well three films is a trio, at least
@NapoleonWilson cancelled, or maybe never announced I think

Oh, and there's going to be like 4 sequels to Avatar.
Dang, they've been saying that for what 10 years but we don't even see the beginning of it being done ahahah

Yeah, that's a film that really doesn't need a ton of sequels anyway. Cameron is severely locking himself in with that.

yup

@NapoleonWilson I suppose, depending on your opinion of him, that could mean that he's not going to do anything else in the meantime... ;)

4:41 PM
@DavidW That's quite independent of my opinion of him, though. He almost certainly isn't going to do anything else in the meantime. ;-)
But for a director who's almost as accomplished as David Benioff is as a writer, that's a little unfortunate.

Unrelated, does anyone here read the latest Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man series?

(Although I have to admit I loved Aliens, and Terminator was great.)
Avatar looked amazing, and the world-building was excellent. Shame about the plot.

Exactly
Visually it's awesome

Well, the plot was just standard Pocahontas/Dances with Wolves fare, but it also wasn't less original than any other Star Wars or MCU thing, though.

The critters are neat

4:43 PM
@NapoleonWilson I can't argue with this; he's a great director.

but plot-wise it's just Pocahontas with blue makeup

@Jenayah And The Lord of the Rings is just The Godfather in Middle-Earth. Happens. ;-)

In terms of publication order, wouldn't that rather be The Godfather being LOTR on Earth?

I was talking about the films, sorry.

ah

4:48 PM
Now I wonder, did the Bakshi movie come out even earlier? ;-)

Peter TurnerAfter watching Season 5 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I came here wondering Where has Deke gone? found the question justifiably closed as unknowable then. Why can flags be declined and stop me from flagging but close votes can't?

@Stormblessed Because it's more fun that way? :)
More seriously, once a flag is declined the mods probably don't want you wasting their time trying to re-flag it.
Or is your question about why you can propose closing a question more than once? I thought there was a process limit on that; only once every 14 days?

I hate it when there's a movie that's supposed to be great and I put it on My List but then when I'm finally bored of whatever TV show I've been watching it's gone from Netflix

ask @Alex for details
@Stormblessed what's the movie?

@Jenayah I could, but I don't wanna. :)

@DavidW I mean why is it that unsuccessful close votes don't restrict my voting powers do but flags do

6:08 PM
@Stormblessed I think that boils down to "Why are flags different," which was my first answer. Unlike open/close which can be a community argument, flag handling is a mod decision, and intended to be final. (AIUI)

@DavidW Oh, I thought those sent things into queues
@Jenayah Every. Single. One. Of. Them. :-|

You can download movies now, though I don't know if they expire at the same time Netflix removes the movie.
But there are sites that you can check for advance warning on what's going away.

@DavidW They've got some way of stopping that
Is it still just on mobile? I only watch movies on bigger screens
(I never actually do though because TV shows are longer lol)

I'm fairly phlegmatic about movies going away. If I haven't watched them in the year that they've been available, how desperate was I to watch them in the first place?

ahahah that's me and Agents of Shield
I've been "oh yeah, I told myself I would watch that" for 6 years

@Jenayah What details? About revoting every 14 days?

@Jenayah I wasn't going to fix that answer for the poster; it doesn't actually seem like a good match, and I didn't want my name on it. :)

@Alex yeah

@Alex Every 14 days? We're always revolting! :)

Yeah, y'all're disgusting.

@DavidW eh, it's not NAA, I guess
And don't worry, now it's my name on it ;)

8:08 PM
@Jenayah It's an answer, just not the right one.

Sure, but not worthy of deletion.

@Jenayah That was the distinction I was trying to make, yes.

@Mithrandir ?

@Jenayah She's snarking a me and my bad pun.

@DavidW hence why I kicked it out of low quality queue ;)
@DavidW ?

8:10 PM
@Jenayah "revolting" can mean like rebelling, or it can mean disgusting.

aaaah
wait
revolting meaning disgusting in a "eeew" way?
Or just in a "I don't agree with that" way

Yes.

Revolting as in an "I'm going to throw up" way :P

"Eugh, that smell is revolting."

SeamusthedogAt the end of Avengers: Infinity War we see about half of the Avengers turn to dust in the 'anti-rapture' of Thanos. I'm baffled, I gained 216 rep on Movies today but the extra point doesn't come from a removed downvote as far as I can see ._.
any idea of why?
I didn't get DVed somewhere else either

I bet it is a removed downvote, but that it's just wonky about how it's recording it.
ISTM I've seen strangeness with removed DVs vs. the daily total before.

it's a super old DV then... I'm checking mine on M&TV and they're all still up so far

Oh, wait, I'm being confusing.
I meant to say it's probably a point from a DV you left being returned to you because the post you left it on was deleted.

Well I wasn't confused before but now that you say you're confusing I don't get why you would be confusing and that confuses me

@DavidW yeah that's what I meant as well

uuuugh, where did that thing come from ._.

You're not a 10k user there; if something you DVed was deleted, would you be able to tell?

aaaah... true.
mmmh... I'd still expect the "downvote was removed" log, though.
and especially, I wouldn't expect it to be recorded as an upvote

9:51 PM
I know I've gained a couple of points of rep back this past month because of DVs I've left being deleted. I'm certain it's happened at least twice, but there are no "downvote was removed" log entries.

there isn't?

@Jenayah Yeah, it’s a given you ignore mu Meta posts here.

@Jenayah that extra one will disappear at some point when there's a recalc, though

Q: How big is the Circumference barrier?

StormblessedIn The Colour of Magic, it is shown there is a net on the edge of the Disc when How big is this net? In The Light Fantastic on page 13 it mentions ships falling off the world, so I guess it isn’t complete.

@Stormblessed That is an interesting question; I don't know if there's an answer though; most of the rim isn't visited in the books.

@Stormblessed Are you sure the net is on the edge of the Disc?

@Alex where else would it be?

@Jenayah Wut? To what end?

@NapoleonWilson well I'm curious as to where did that extra 1 rep came from. It's likely a downvote on a recently deleted answer, but I don't DV that much on M&TV and wouldn't know which one... and as it's recorded as an upvote, I'm curious as to checking whether the system is tsupid

Sure it's not a mess up due to the reputation limit?

well that would mean I'd have downvoted stuff today which I don't think I have...

11:20 PM
It's recorded as an upvote for a specific answer of your's. So it can't be a deleted post you downvoted.

well yeah that's what I was thinking as well
but if I got 20 upvotes and an accept, I should have earned 215 rep, not 216

@Jenayah I'd rather think it was actual upvote, the rest +9 of which where swallowed by the rep limit due to some other intricacy.
Can't you just check your voting records?

@NapoleonWilson what do you think I did first? :P

Well, I don't know. I just saw someone request a list of deleted answers that I don't even know how to compile if I wanted to.

how to compile, not hard, there's a list of recetnly deleted answers in 10k tools

11:24 PM
Ah, thanks.

Jen downvotes, resulting in -1 rep. Jen's answer upvoted, which gives her +1 rep because the downvote had lowered the daily gain to 214, so she's back at 215. Answer is deleted, refunding the -1 from downvoting, so now she's at +216. But are you sure that it hasn't recalced 24 minutes ago?

Sure it wasn't a non-answer on an Endgame question? There's been quite a few, including ones on questions you answered, too.

(Or is UTC midnight in half an hour? I can't remember with DST and stuff.)

@Alex That's because it's only temporary. It's accounted for and removed when a recalc happens.
But don't take anything I say too authoritatively. I'm often wrong, especially chatting at hours like this.

Well, then I don't really know. If you didn't downvote anything then it's something else.

Q: How did I get this bit of reputation after I hit the repcap?

MithrandirI hit the repcap on Science Fiction & Fantasy on the 20th, so I should only have earned 165 rep. (Does that not make sense? I had an accepted answer, so that's an extra 15 that doesn't count. And I started a bounty for 50, so that's 165.) Here it says I got 167: And here you can see a random ...

@NapoleonWilson you can see deleted stuff you reviewed even when you're <10k, I think

11:31 PM
Really?
Also, how would you know you reviewed it to begin with? Maybe you just downvoted it?

I only review things on sites where I have 10,000.
Speaking of which, the 25,000 privilege is pretty cool.

@Mithrandir yeah I knew of that one and went t check it, but I didn't cast DVs today
@NapoleonWilson I could have, but don't remember so.

That raises the question of how you came across the question. You stalking me? :P

I got one you flagged as "very low quality". Sure you didn't also downvote it? (If not, now would be a good time to consider starting so.)

@Mithrandir Isn't everyone?

11:34 PM
@Mithrandir I've been browsing the top questions/answers of a bunch of people here, i's not just you :D

And another one.

@NapoleonWilson VLQ? On the JP one?

I don't know what a JP is. But I'm seeing two VLQ flags from you on deleted answers that got downvotes.

Don't remember so, but then again the downvotes I cast are mainly on answers, not stuff I know will get deleted
@NapoleonWilson Jurassic Park
I got one pending on Van Dyne surviving the quantum realm

But if you're telling my you're dishing out mass VLQ flags without also downvoting, maybe we need to have da serious flag talk. ;-)

11:37 PM
Mass?
I have like 150 flags on M&TV :D
That's mass?
I mena... Considering the missed NAAs and obsolete comments I flagged during summer here (hey @Randal'Thor) I wouldn't consider the 2-3 flags a day on M&TV "mass" :P

I was being facetious.

But no problem, let's talk, I usually flag and trust reviewers to do their jobs, DVs are for quality control not "that stuff shouldn't be here to begin with" control :P
@NapoleonWilson oh right, you added a smiley :D

So to sum up the above, Jenayah is somehow wrecking the site?

Point being, there's 3 deleted answers that were downvoted by someone and that you flagged as VLQ. So either you are 100% sure you didn't downvote any of these because you have the habit of flagging as VLQ without even downvoting, or we've found the missing -1.
@Jenayah So for stuff of...uh...very low quality?

you know what I mean
oh no, you don't. There's no smiley.

11:44 PM
Not quite. Are you genuinely saying you don't downvote stuff that you flag as VLQ?

for stuff like... stuff which will get deleted. Because it's NAA, VLQ, spam...
@NapoleonWilson upon flagging, usually no. Depends on whether I think the thing might get "Looks OK"ed in review. For instance "thank you" answers, "but what I want to know is [other question]" stuff, etc. Stuff that looks like a possible answer when squinting eyes really, really, really strongly, I might DV, but the rest I usually flag and go on

In that case I really don't know where else to look. That's the most likely posts I found. If they're not it either, it's a magic rep point issued by the guy on the grassy knoll that probably went backwards through 3 different users already.

Then again I come with SFF's habit and way of reviewing... On M&TV I don't know the review trends. FFS, I've seen a 8-hours old spam on LQP queue, with someone responding with the canned "link only" comment 🙄

@Jenayah Well, but those are genuinely not answers. You'd flag them as "not an answer" to begin with. VLQ has the very prime reason for downvoting in its name already.

@NapoleonWilson who?
oh, the one who casted the 3 dvs

11:50 PM
But the VLQ flag is quite broken to begin with and it's natural many users don't quite get it. The moderators usually don't either, nor what to do with such posts. More often than not it means "this is odd, but I'm afraid it might be an answer. Please someone else take a look at it!".
@Jenayah That was a Kennedy joke, don't worry.

@NapoleonWilson meh, TBH knowing they go to the same queue I might not always get pedant and select VLQ if it vaguely looks like an answer but fits the "unlikely to be salveageable" thing
@NapoleonWilson well yeah, exactly

Still, if a post is of so terrible quality it has to be flagged for that very reason...

then if it gets left up as an answer I DV, simple matter of checking which of your flags are on red posts from time to time

But well, at least you're not like the people on SO flagging bullshit while simultaneously upvoting.
Or...at least the 3 posts I checked didn't have any upvotes.

on sites where I don't have the tools available for that
@NapoleonWilson what's Kennedy doing here now?

@Jenayah That sounds quite tedious. You'll get the vote back anyway when it's deleted.

@NapoleonWilson uh? People UV and flag? WTF?

People also custom mod flag with "plz answer"...

Do the needful, yes.

@NapoleonWilson I don't care about the lost rep, the not DVing thing is a time/performance thing, mostly

Apparently only about 11% of all my downvotes are on undeleted posts.

"performance" is about the joke I'm supposed to call a computer
@Mithrandir -____________-

@Jenayah I don't get that. Like, it takes your computer genuine time to process that click?

@NapoleonWilson FWIW there's a couple of regular checks I do like this
