Q: Looking for the name of an old anime with a cat girl that eventually devolves

KC WongIt is an old anime I watched on TV (Hong Kong free TV channel TVB) over 20 years ago. The protagonist is a male teenager or boy. He found a pink cat or tiger girl, which was scientifically evolved into her furry human form. He taught her how to speak. It has a sad ending, as eventually her mind ...

Q: '90s Christian sci-fi book where the special police have mechanical gauntlets that let them fly and shoot

BillTrying to find an '80s/'90s sci-fi book where the special police have mechanical gloves; gauntlets that let them fly and shoot and do everything. Christians are in secret and use a stone as a Bible- it resonates through the skeleton. Someone gets arrested for standing on a logo. An AI runs the wo...

Q: Are the Silmarils and the Rings of Power the same basic thing?

hamstarTo my understanding, this question roughly translates as: Are fëa (souls) compositionally the same as "holy light" (e.g. from the Two Lamps, Two Trees, Silmarils, etc.)? In the same way that Melkor grew weaker across the ages by investing himself in his monstrous creations, I surmise Sauron simil...

Q: Movie where a convict takes over a spaceship and a pool shark is unfrozen to land it

Ben OakdenI believe this movie is Canadian-made, late 1990s to early 2000s. A convict takes over a spaceship and the hero unfreezes a pool shark from cryo to land the ship after unfreezing the wrong brother.

Q: Help me identify this story about a posthuman child on the run in an amish reserve

flibwibI think I read this book around 8 to 16 years ago, but I think it was a few years old at that point. What I remember of the plot: The singularity has taken place, most of the world are transhuman There are large reserves where baseline humans (such as the Amish) can live as though the singula...

Q: First work to depict Mr. Hyde as superhuman

Nu'DaqIn Robert Louis Stevenson's "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", the latter character was depicted as, while vicious and sinister, an ordinary human in terms of physical strength and endurance. However later works tend to paint Mr. Edmund Hyde as someone with strength and endurance of superhuman levels mor...

Q: Are such question allowed?

shanuI came across this question on review tasks. So are such type of questions allowed on the site? I mean technically the OP does say that it has sci-fi elements such as the presence of a cyborg and aliens but then again there exist So anybody could ask questions about such movies and get away with...

Q: Death described in, least to say, very unflattering terms

OlorinI would like to find a poem or a book where death is described in very unflattering terms, possibly with lots of blood involved. Possibly coupled (but not necessarily) to a form of statement that the death is an event like other events and that the death of a single man has never changed anything.

@Randal'Thor Thank you!
@SQB I haven't replied since I've not seen any work in question, but I feel it's likely borderline at best.

SQB
On the one hand, it is borderline, on the other hand it's a question about a situation that hasn't come about yet, so on the gripping hand, let's not pre-emptively declare it off topic.

If there's some attempt to actually craft a universe around the work, then yes, if would be on-topic. But my impression is that most of those movies just cosplay a trope with no effort to make it actually mean anything.
@SQB Well, technically it's about a situation that has no longer happened yet. :) It wasn't as hypothetical when it was posted.

SQB
@DavidW it wasn't?

Right above Slartibartfast's post in the chat history is the post from Marvin about the question.
Let me see: if I include a link after text it won't onebox it right? scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/272002/…

2:22 PM
Deleted posts won't onebox anyway.
By the way, the reason for deletion was not primarily the content of the post.

@Randal'Thor I suspected that; it looks like there are probably comments missing, but the deleted response makes me feel like there was some bad-faith acting happening there.
Which is why I bothered to post an answer to the question in meta too; there's no reason that this situation won't arise with a real question, and I think many of the principles/precedents are fairly clear.

There are some issues where we (community/mods) can't decide freely. I recall something else involving pornographic content where SE's "Trust & Safety" (a subset of the CMs) had to get involved.
This probably isn't one of those, as long as it's a question about the work rather than sharing actual pornographic content, but we're wondering if we should ask CMs just to be sure.

2:40 PM
That seems prudent, if there are likely to be problems.
But as I noted in my answer, there are written SFnal works that could be considered quite pornographic too, and they'd be automatically on-topic unless there's a specific reason and case-by-case ruling.
Short of actually including objectionable content (which is problematic to define, granted), discussion about works that contain potentially objectionable aspects should be possible as long as the work is on-topic and the question is about SFnal aspects of the work.

@Randal'Thor one of all those creepy "Leia as a slave" questions, perhaps? Those were creepy.

@SQB Dunno, those predated my time as a mod.
Or even as a user - I've only heard about them as ancient history.

Toad sliming various female heroes was the one I remember. Then, of course, there were the time travelling robots... at least those sounded more obsessive than paraphilic.

Q: Book with a tiny black hole on a planet

ZhroI remember being gifted as a child some kind of hardcover book that had a purple colored soft-touch cover; I think it was some kind of fabric. There was also a purple ribbon as bookmark. Q: Looking for a novel featuring a scene with an illegal street race, knocking books of the bumper of a car

SQBI read this book in the mid '90s, but it's likely older, from a couple of decades before that. It was in English, possible American English. What I remember is a scene in which the protagonist takes part in illegal street races. Stacks of books are tied to the bumper of two cars. Drivers then rac...

And I need to fix a typo.
Done.
