Q: Cyberpunk short story where Soviet brain-in-bottle pilots fly aircrafts

desertnautIn a piece from his non-fiction collection Distrust That Particular Flavor (2012), William Gibson writes: A friend of mine wrote a short story, a decade ago, in which the protagonists were Soviet equivalents of Predator drones, but literal cyborgs: small fighter aircraft controlled by brain-in-b...

Q: 80s or 90s Story identification. A movie about aliens that get to earth. Some with out a genders

Gork SkoalHi all new around here. While looking for a show or movie to watch. I was trying to remember the name of one from 80s or 90s. I was very young then and haven't seen it in years. But here goes: From what I remember the movie was about aliens. I can't remember if it's on their planet or ours. One d...

Q: Could Maul just claim to be Sith after Endor?

CaedusidiousLet's pretend for a moment that Maul never goes to Tatooine looking for Kenobi like he does in Rebels and survives the entire Galactic Civil War. Sidious and Vader die aboard the DS2, and at this time Maul doesn't consider himself a Sith. Afterwards though, as cowardly as it would be, could he (l...

Q: What is this from: beheading, head stolen in heist, and connected to new body?

Bearded HobbitThis memory of a scene from a book/movie/show/comic popped into my mind and I can't figure out what it is from! It's a beheading/execution scene on a castle/tower/skyscraper over a waterfall/into a sewer. The person being beheaded is the (anti?)hero, and I guess the person in charge of beheading ...

Q: Short Story involving Immortality Drug and Murder Trial

M. A. GoldingI read the story in a hard bound science fiction anthology which I purchased after 1968 and probably in the 1970s. The anthology was rather old when I bought it, so could have been printed in the sixties, fifties, or forties perhaps. Most of my books are now packed up. In this story a doctor, d...

Q: What do you think about being able to switch from from one body to another?

Morris the DonLet's start out with a complex question that everyone should have a view on, that of 'resleeving' or having your conscious self departed from your physical self and placed into another. >Altered Carbon is an American cyberpunk television series created by Laeta Kalogridis and based on the 2002 no...

@TheLethalCarrot I've met a lot of mini doodles in the past couple of years. Golden + miniature (not toy) poodle; typically only slightly larger than a mini poodle.

Oh yeah, they're certainly a thing. This was bought as a full sized golden doodle though

Seem to be very popular; for some reason people don't want proper dogs any more?

I guess not
Stella's a 25kg beef machine

She "whale dived" on this tiny little dog a few weeks back... thought she'd killed it... somehow must have mostly missed

12:25 PM
Fair enough. The demand for dogs, especially designer breeds, has been high enough to bring out everyone who wants to make a quick buck.

Especially since COVID hit, everyone wanted a dog. Prices are silly at the moment

Exactly.

@DavidW now that is a real problem

Was sad a yearish after the start of the first lockdown seeing a lot of 1 year ish old dogs going up for sale when people went back to work and realising they didn't want one or couldn't cope

@AncientSwordRage Good, yes. Delicate and timid, also yes.

12:29 PM
@DavidW nowt wrong with that

@TheLethalCarrot Haven't been paying attention, but that is very sad.

We look occasionally anyway and I've also been trying to persuade the wife for us to have a second dog

"Don't you think the dog should have someone to play with and keep him company while we're at work?" :)

Stella's never alone... she has separation anxiety anyway so if neither of us are at home she's at the in laws with their 2 dogs :)

12:47 PM
@DavidW I am waiting for my wife to drop that line.

Q: What are the Legions High Gothic Names?

ShadeIn the WH40K universe, a lot of High Gothic is depicted as Latin. E.g. the different branches of government: Adeptus Administratum (administro, latin for minister), Adeptus Munitorum (munitio, latin for fortification), Adeptus Ministorum (ministro, latin for serve), Adeptus Sororitas (soror, lati...

Q: Seeking sci-fi short story (1980s/1990s?) where a man puts his consciousness into an animal's brain, but then can't/doesn't want to leave

Horse BrainIf I'm recalling correctly, a man takes a vacation by putting his consciousness into a horse or dog brain (I think), and he loves it so much—specifically, the freedom that animals' simplistic consciousness grants—that he keeps going back into that animal's brain. By the end of the story, though, ...

Q: Was Rachel enabled/designed to reproduce?

riccs_0xI'm a bit confused, since reading the book and watching the movies and shorts makes me wonder if Rachel was, from the start, able to get pregnant. Because if she is, then it means the technology and knowledge is already available, so the 2049 part turns (to me) pointless. And if this was results ...

FuzzyBootsIn the third episode of The Book of Boba Fett, TV Tropes notes that, near the end of the episode: Is it confirmed that that is who attacked the settlement? Q: Is there an adjective for the styling of Star Wars?

Peter MThe adjectives Steampunk and Cyberpunk are well known and invoke very specific stylistic visions. The Star Wars universe seems to mash up a variety of technologies from different times, such as a land-speeder having both anti-gravity repulsor technology for lifting off the ground, yet is propelle...
