Q: Short story about aliens who came to Earth using vacuum tube technology?

Robert BI remember that back in 80s I read a short SF story about aliens who crossed interstellar distances to arrive at Earth, and somehow managed it with only vacuum tube technology. The story was definitely written after vacuum tubes became obsolete because part of the appeal of the story was "ooh, ho...

Q: In Tolkien's universe, what happens if a Ring of Power is worn by a member of race other than the one the ring was made for?

Ivan KoshelevIn Tolkien's universe, what happens if, for example, an elven Ring of Power is worn by a dwarf, or vice-versa? We, seemingly, only have mention of this happening to One Ring, but I also don't remember any mention of it being made for a specific race.

Q: Finding a dark female character (Mature)

TheMythNerdI remember seeing this video on youtube, I think it was a Top 10 Nerd video where this female character would find rapists and burn their dicks off with her heat-based power. Does anyone know who that is? It keeps coming to my mind but for the life of me, I don't know her name.

Q: Book about a girl who cannot touch people

VictorThe book was about a girl or perhaps princess who could not either touch people or be touched. Then later she meets a boy and they fall in love then accidentally end up touching but nothing ends up happening. It was set sometime in the past I believe royal-esque times. It is not Shatter Me.

@Randal'Thor Doesn't that leave room for future problems?
E.g. if I ask a question about an animagus and tag it it will instead get tagged as ?
Os is there a difference between merging and synonymizing?

5:19 AM
@Alex Yes.

Good to know.

If I merge without synonymising, it just replaces all the current tags by tags, without affecting future ones.
Vice versa if tags are synonymised without merging.

Q: Does the name of Shub Niggurath contain or reference a racial slur?

Robert ColumbiaI've always thought that the name of the Lovecraft deity Shub Niggurath was intended to sound vaguely Semitic, but I recently noticed that it seems to encode a certain well-known English-language racial slur, namely Is it known whether or not H. P. Lovecraft intended for readers to make this con...

SethMMortonThis is intended to be an out-of-universe question I recently learned of Thanatos the Greek god of death, and I could not help but notice how similar the name Thanosis to the name Thanatos. This got me wondering if the original writers did this intentionally, especially considering Thanos' relati...
