Are there any stories where the universe is entirely a cave or some other closed system? That is, if you kept digging/burning/destroying the walls of the universe, you'd just find more wall, and there is no expanse leading outwards?

Q: How did McGonagall know that Harry had an owl?

Krumione.and.DembridgeIn CoS, McGonagall tells Harry that he should've sent a professor a letter through Hedwig when Harry and Ron couldn't get through the barrier. "Why didn't you send us a letter by owl? I believe you have an owl?" This information proves that McGonagall knows about Harry's owl. But how? I can't s...

Q: Old cartoon about some characters looking for elemental crystals

user130101I remember as a kid watching a movie where there's a guy who is topless, and he searches for some magical elemental crystals. He has a crystal that when he puts in a hole in a cave during sunset it reveals a map, and one crystal is hidden behind a waterfall. Later that guy is imprisoned inside a ...

Q: What was the first movie with an object associated with a person being depicted to fall more slowly on Mars than it would on Earth?

uhohThis comment in Space SE got me wondering, and I can't think of a counterexample. Especially since Hollywood seems to think that Mars has 1g (and all other planets too). :-) When an object is dropped from height h, the time it takes to fall is t = sqrt(2h/g). Values for g on Earth, Mars and the...

Q: How many citizens are living in Concupia? What's the size of Concupia?

TheMadHatterI want to know how many citizens are in Concupia and the size of this country. Can someone make a proper estimate? A fast horseman can go from one city to another in a day. Evidently it's a small country - but how small? The size can be used to decipher the number of citizens. Knowing the numbe...

That was a mission. Legitimately had to google the comic number, and figure out who the supporting characters/villains were
Nice.
One advantage of digging up posts for image descriptions is all the other edits that get done at the same time. :)
Hoping people do them of course
2013 -> 2014 I'd say

I'm behind on practice, I didn't think we as a community mark story ID as dupes

They get marked as duplicate only when both questions have been confirmed to be the same work.

Q: Closing Story-Ident questions as duplicates (where there's no acceptance)

ValorumIt has been widely discussed and seems to be generally agreed that where two story-identification questions have an accepted answer that is the same, one should be closed as duplicate of the other. What seems more contentious is closing questions where only one has an accepted answer and where t...

Been policy for like five years. :P
ahh
@Mithical It's been a hectic five year :p
That's the main policy post on it, this one from 2014 also has some discussion on the matter
@TheLethalCarrot that looks more familiar to me (but I have voted on the more recent one)
10:32
Also on story-ID duplicates, I believe that this should be closed the other way around. The newer question and answers are much more detailed.
That's already a hub question, a busy one at that... it's not great but a lot of work to redo it all
That, to be honest, isn't really worth it that much
Hmm, yeah, it does have a lot of duplicates... although a mod or Mjolnir could fix it (probably wind up breaking the 5/15 rule though)
Maybe best to just edit the target.
Aye, add a more detailed generic answer to the current hub answer
(Not to mention that the hub question is a copy-paste from somewhere else. The whole thing is a mess.)

Q: Why does Harry like Snape

occipitaHas he forgotten the harsh way Snape treated him in class. I know that Snape saved his life but only because he had Lily's eyes and if he didn't Snape wouldn't have.

@Marvin Narrator's voice: he doesn't.
12:22
> But it's a little one-sided to see him as just a bullying teacher who helped Harry only because of his eyes.
Is it though? I must be misremembering the books

May 31 at 17:28, by Mithical
Meh. I'm not going to look at the entire question before deciding to edit a single answer. I edited the answer and then looked at the rest of the question. I don't think it's a huge concern if it gets bumped later.
12:50
@Jenayah Not necessarily even to the rest of the question - just even to that one post, often spelling etc. gets fixed.
Yes?
I mean if you bump stuff solely for alt text while leaving other flaws around, you're missing the point
It's not an "advantage", it's due process if you're curating properly
@Jenayah I've definitely rejected edits for not going far enough
If I'm on a proper computer (i.e. not my phone) I'll usually "improve" those.
If it misses critical stuff, I'll Reject and Edit. Otherwise Improve is often a good option.

Q: 2000s novel with a journalist trying to stop a Bill Gates expy from taking over the world, said plot somehow involving the Dead Sea Scrolls

FuzzyBootsI was reminded of this when I saw the title of SciFi / fantasy book from 80s about Jesus, present-day New York, time travel and the Dead Sea scrolls, but somewhere in the early 2000s, while I was working as a bank teller in Ashland, KY, one of my co-workers gave me a book they read, thinking I'd ...
