@Rand did the question they asked violate any rule?
Curious what rule.
Why can’t you see what user made a deleted post? Kind of weird, seems pointless to hide it

Q: When Jean Gets Slimed By Toad, Are Her Grunts Random?

Gothamite24I was wondering this, because when she gets slimed by Toad, she grunts 7 times while trying to pry it off, 7 times when Cyclops finds her, and 3 right before he blasts it off. Is she trying to say anything, yell for help maybe, or are these just random grunts?

Q: Story ID - aliens and dogs

user3969I saw this story in an anthology in a used bookstore in 2009. When the aliens came, we negotiated a peace treaty with them. Everything was going fine until they said "oh, and you'll have to stop keeping dogs as slaves, of course." Humans said "what? No, they're not slaves, they're pets. They're...

AdamantOn the show Angel 'N' Devil, we're told that Chi An's Demon Axe, logically enough, only works against demons. Unfortunately, what counts as a demon seems to be pretty unclear. @Stormblessed l'aube a mod removed the community wiki status? I think they can do that.
@Stormblessed I think @Rand once said there was a feature in mod tools to turn all the answers into wiki ones

that is indeed among the mod powers
@Jenayah if the question is wiki, all the answers are automatically wiki as well

@Alex "Has principles" sounds like the start of a joke...

4:11 PM
@DavidW Let's hear it.

I dunno, something like "stage 1: has principles; stage 2: follows them; stage 3: they're worthwhile..."
Not sure where to take it from there.
I always remember how (cynically) the levels of ISO 9000 compliance were described to me. It was roughly 1) We have procedures; 2) We wrote them down; 3) We follow them; 4) We checked them; 5) They work.
I may have missed a couple in there; the point being that anything but the highest level of compliance was basically just buzzwords and box-ticking.

It is clear all over the series that the Goa'uld are opportunist leeches of stargate technology. To make them one of the five races originally would be an Obi-Wan level retcon (Vader killed your father, in a manner of speaking....) — ThePopMachine Jun 28 '12 at 16:50
I have no idea what this "Obi-Wan level retcon" is about
How is "exact duplicate" different from "possible duplicate"?

Q: Wording of "possible/exact duplicates" when closing the question

EimantasWhen marking question for "duplicate", the reason in dialog window is "exact duplicate", yet when the process is completed there's a comment added that says "possible duplicate". But I'm not satisfied with the answer there

@Stormblessed I think it's that in A New Hope he said that Vader had killed Luke's father, but then in The Empire Strikes Back they changed it to Vader actually was Luke's father, and that had to be justified by arguing that it's as if he killed him since he became Vader and Anakin ceased to exist.

@Stormblessed Rolled back your change ("Star Fall" -> "Starfall") because "Star Fall" is correct; checked Amazon, ISFDB and Baen books.

5:02 PM
@Jenayah How about now?

A: Wording of "possible/exact duplicates" when closing the question

AlexFrom an English language standpoint this actually makes perfect sense. "Possible" and "exact" are not measurements on the same spectrum. "Possible" is a measurement of how certain it is that the question is a duplicate (regardless of how much it is a duplicate), while "exact" is a measure of how ...

@Alex meh, I'd rather have an answer from the people who did it ;) but a better answer than the current ones
There might actually be other threads on that

@Jenayah The other answers are from employees.

Hence why I said "better answers"

@Jenayah Ah, I think I misread your sentence due to the emoji masquerading as punctuation.

@DavidW oh Wikipedia has the individual book as two words

5:21 PM
@Stormblessed True, but for something like this I tend to trust Wikipedia last. ISFDB is way more carefully maintained, Amazon (non-3rd-party) has official catalog data tied to the ISBN number and Baen, well, I figure the publisher knows how to spell its own catalog. :)

@Alex technically speaking that's an emoticon ;)

As compared to Goodreads, which isn't even internally consistent and may not even have a good mechanism for fixing errors in user-provided content.
