Q: "Sandboxing" of adversarial sentient programs before TNG's "Ship in a Bottle"?

uhohReading this BBC News item reminded me of the TNG episode Ship in a bottle where the holodeck character Moriarti is tricked into moving into an off-line table-top computer running a simulation of the holodeck, Enterprise, and universe, thereby neutralizing his threat to the real ship, Starfleet, ...

has (small) bounty. Should I change the title to Was TNG's "Ship in a Bottle" the first... perhaps?

@uhoh sounds like a good idea.
Since you're looking for the first example ever, not necessarily related to Star Trek, you may even want to remove TNG from the title.
> What is the first example of sandboxing an adversarial sentient program?
Also, you might want to hang a date on that TNG episode.
(Somewhere in the body of the question).
@Randal'Thor not your fault; I blame the styling of the mobile site.

So have to assume timing of movies should have in the movie universe (reversed in release of movies) ...

Q: Old sci fi short. Teens constantly at war to stabilize the economy

Danny3414What I remember.. Read in some anthology mid 1970's but I had an impression it was a good decade or so older (slang expressions etc). The story began with a teenage American looking out from his reinforced family bunker at the mail APC trundling up the street, painted in white 'truce markings'. ...

Q: Are there any critics/reviews which address this specific near-end scene in Interstellar thoroughly? [SPOILER ALERT]

Bruder LustigIn Interstellar, there is one scene near the end: Question: Are there any critics by professional reviewers (editors for newspapers, magazines, blogs and so on, who earn their money with writing movie and TV critics) that address this specific scene thorughly in their reviews? I only know rev...

Q: Eureka and 'Car Wash'

JeepedI've been binge watching the Eureka series (just finished season 4). So what's the deal with the 'Car Wash' song? It seems that whenever they want to irritate the viewer, they start playing that song. From the time the janitor was singing it in the elevator when he thought he was alone to the ps...
