Q: What was Ego's motive exactly?

AtanuCSEGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Spoilers ahead. May be I wasn't paying enough attention. Thus, miss the plot. So Ego wanted to find a person or a entity, who would carry the energy that he needed in order to spread the light of Ego's planet everywhere. Right ? That's why he spread some seed like ...

@Randal'Thor I was just curious as to why my picture was there -- no problem, you are free to use it whenever you'd like. :) In turn, I apologize if I got my hackles up re: Harry Potter badges. I've heard others say HP badges are easy to get, and, well, that's just not true. Like any canon, the HP fan who's after a badge has to know their canon very thoroughly. As thoroughly as Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, etc.
@Derpy Is this really necessary for the animal kingdom to function? >.<

Q: What is the name of a particular tv-show-

Effector Dhanushanth-of perhaps the late 80s to early 90s give or take, that had featured a science-fiction story? Where the elements were quite sinister; one spooky villain-type that stands out as a horror-classic is a kind of lotus that lights up and speaks? I'd be so very grateful.

9:25 AM
I hope this question is not completely stupid, based on some very silly misunderstandings of the book. I'm not hoping for getting much votes for it though.

@Randal'Thor Looks interesting at first glance. Would you recommend it?

Or worse, it could be that I'm missing something that was revealed in an earlier chapter, which could be even sillier than just not understanding the cryptic chapter 120.
@Gallifreyan I don't think this needs a harry-potter tag.

@b_jonas It's still the Harry Potter franchise.
Even though a fanfic.

@Gallifreyan I think we decided not to use the tag because it's not a question where we need Harry Potter experts, so the signpost is bad.
It may be a fanfic, but it's only very loosely based, it's not a fanfic like the Cursed Child which tries to use the canon Harry Potter book story as a starting point.
Note that we use the tag in two questions that ask whether something in Methods of Rationality matches the HP canon, and in one question that asks how much the two worlds differ, but those question do need Harry Potter experts.
Hmm fuck. Someone tagged all the other questions with [harry-potter] too.
Might have to raise this on Meta.

9:52 AM
@b_jonas Indeed ;)

Raised on meta. That's probably better than if I just revert the tags and get into an edit war with experts.

He's not here, is he?
Damn, I can't ping him even with comments because he only edited those questions

@b_jonas You can ping editors same way as commenters.

@Gallifreyan Can I?

10:07 AM
Yep ;)

Ok, if that's true then I pinged him.
But I don't think it's true because the SE web interface gives autocomple suggestions for commenter names, but not for editor names.

@b_jonas It doesn't, but they work nonetheless.

Ok, thank you.
Then I just have to wait.

@b_jonas Check the main site ;)

Q: Should questions about Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality have the harry-potter tag?

b_jonasCurrently all questions about hp-methods-of-rationality Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality are tagged with harry-potter too. Should we actually use this tag on all these questions?

Q: Help me identify this Russian stop-motion animation

BroklyniteI was at an Alamo Drafthouse this weekend, and they usually have a fun pre-show with all kinds of strange bits and clips and such. This weekend they had one that really caught my attention, a short film punctuated with commercials and movie trailers, so I missed bits and pieces. Plus they were ta...

Where's that short story JKR wrote about Sirius riding his motorbike when he's still young?
@Gallifreyan re scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/49653/… you're right. That did work. And I don't think you have some special privilage like diamond on some other SE site.
(Iirc diamond moderators have some special methods to message people.)
@slytherincess also I don't buy the "everyone who potentially might answer the question has read the fan fic, and it excludes those who have only read canon" argument, because you could just as well say that everyone who potentially wants to answer Star Wars questions has to watch the movies and read the thousands of books in the extended universe, or that everyone who wants to answer HP question has to work through the puzzles on Pottermore and on new Pottermore.
@Slytherincess You already know that's not how answering questions works, since Rand answers Star Wars questions without watching Star Wars. In fact, I've seen an attempt of that argument before Sci Fi SE even existed, at perlmonks.com/?node_id=592386
So we can argue about what sources we use in what ways on the site, but "excludes those who have only read" is not an argument that comes into play there.

@Gallifreyan Yes, definitely. I'm still mulling it over after having finished reading it, but the fact that it's worthy of so much mulling is a recommendation in itself. Like I said, it's very subtle - you almost have to do close reading just to understand the ending and significance of the story. Something about the style reminds me of Ursula le Guin, so if you enjoy her stuff, you might enjoy this.

I think I met my match in Harry Potter trivia IRL.
My cousin is a fangirl who knows like everything about the books o_o

@Mithrandir Ask her whether she goes by the name @Bellatrix on Stack Exchange ;-)

11:03 PM
(no offence to other HP heads around here - Bella was the first young female one who came to mind)
