Q: Why was orbital bombardment not a common action during the Clone Wars

psubsee2003During the entire length if the Clone Wars TV series, I so not recall orbital bombardment ever being used as a strategy to help soften enemy defenses prior to attack. I get that in some cases, bombarding the planet from orbit would devistate the native population (like the campaigns on Ryloth). ...

NolaIn the Story, this woman is trying to be chosen for a task, but there is a group of people working against her. She was at a ball or party and took one sip of wine or champagne and then left, she was arrested shortly after leaving, it was obviously a ploy to stop her from this the task.

Q: Why do Jedi & Sith fight each other with lightsabers in the Star Wars movies if they have powers like Force push & Force lightning?

But this organization is secretly selecting people to go into hibernation for a few thousand years until eart...

@Babelfish Sounds like a dupe.

@Gallifreyan Possibly, I'm not sure. I always felt the whole trilogy was presented as if it was some new and radical idea. While I liked the cinematography in the 1st one, the 2nd and 3rd were rather uninteresting to me, so I've avoided them other than the first time I saw them.

@Tango Just saw that one yesterday on an unrelated search :) I think I'll watch the sequels again in my uni's library some day or another, though.

5:03 PM
@Gallifreyan I may at some point. I liked Inception better because it was the same type of "mess with your mind" and "this isn't the ultimate reality" type of story, but it didn't jump out as if to say, "Hey this is a brand new and super-important idea and we had no idea this is a central tenant of some of the world's big religions or that the idea goes back to even before Plato's Cave."
I know I'm sounding snotty, but that aspect of The Matrix turned me off.

I didn't get that part of The Matrix's symbolism the first time I saw it - I was too young. I was impressed by the whole "living in virtual reality" thing, what was closer to "Neuromancer" (though I hadn't read it either).

Q: Where did Wonder Woman's sword come from?

Phlegon_of_TrallesOkay, first, this question will have spoilers. @Tango How is the construction going?

@Donald.McLean Overall, pretty good. Rain today and we had a lot of rain for a while which is delaying a retaining wall I need to build for the driveway and for a concrete slab in the garage. That's frustrating!
What's going on with you?

5:10 PM
@Tango That same rain had been holding up some landscaping we wanted to do, but we finally got that in on Thursday and Friday.

@Donald.McLean January was cold and wet and a mess - I had the driveway mostly done and was working on the branch that goes to the barn. I was stuck for over 3 weeks without being able to do the next section! Then we had a warm and sunny February and I got a lot done. Now - well, I haven't been able to do much on the road for a month due to rain and other issues.
Here's the photo I got from the mason yesterday when he finished the towers:

@Tango That looks nice!

@Tango Very nice.

@Donald.McLean, @Gallifreyan: Thanks. Yesterday they finished the 2nd tower, the smaller one. But even with just the first one done, it looked awesome!
Yes, our house has two towers, but no fellowship and no king that's returning!

@Donald.McLean Cool! That means they feel you guys know what you're doing!

@Tango Well now I have a Halloween project suggestion: dress one of them up as Barad-dur.

5:33 PM
@FuzzyBoots Looks like someone else hijacked it, too.
@doppelgreener That'd be funny!

@Tango Imagine that great fiery eye lit up on Halloween night, glowering down on the street!

I doubt we'll get anyone coming by for Halloween. It's a 1/3 of a mile driveway and the driveway looks like it goes to another house, a white farmhouse on the next lot. Other than that driveway (and people seeing me in a Bobcat building it and all the contractors that wondered about all the loads of dirt and gravel going in and out of that area who called the supply firm), there's no real indication there's a house there.

@FuzzyBoots Nice. (Small typo in the first mention of “Infinitia” (leaving out the “fin”), but I don't have enough local rep to suggest the edit.)

@SevenSidedDie: Certainly got enough on the RPG SE... :-D

Am I the only one who loves that Barad Dur is basically "barred door?"

5:36 PM
@Tango oh no! Fair enough XD

@doppelgreener Yeah, so we won't really have a reason to dress things up for holidays, at least on the outside. And we really don't want to draw attention to the house if we don't have to.

@FuzzyBoots The perils of specialisation. :)

What really irks me about the chat and images is that when it rejects an image as too big, it doesn't offer to resize it. You'd think SE would have someone that could write that algorithm easily, so we don't have to open some program to scale it.

@FuzzyBoots I love cycling, but I haven't been able to do it much lately. Part of that is building the house, but the other part is I can lose weight walking, but not cycling. A friend who teaches aerobics and such finally gave me an answer no one could give me for a few decades: When I ride, I push hard, so I'm in the anaerobic zone and my body is burning muscle, not fat.

@Tango That must depend on where and how you bike. On an even and flat ground, your muscles exert less force on the pedals (that's what pedals are for, they're levers).

Q: Harley Quinn superpowers?

GaiusIn the Suicide Squad movie, what exactly are Harley Quinn's superpowers? There is a scene in which she is immersed in a liquid by The Joker but it's not clear what transformation if any occurs there. Or is she "merely" a Peak Human?

@Gallifreyan Yes, I know, but it's just hard for me to not cut loose and go as fast as I can. I really need to train myself to not do that. I do have a heart rate monitor that helps me with that when I walk or am using ellipticals at the gym.

@Tango Ah, that's another case. I wonder if shifting gears on the bike would fix that? I'll have to check next time.

I go all out and try to bike ten kilometers in ten minutes. I failed. :P
I actually keep having to repair the thing, so I haven't been spinning that much.

8:25 PM
@Gallifreyan If I'm not going up hill, I tend to spend a lot of time in low gear just giving it all I can. It may burn muscle mass instead of fat, but it builds up endurance!

Last time I cycled fast I hit the back of a car so I try and keep slow at the moment.
