What I remember of it was it was a group of people driving around a desert in a vehicle that looked like an RV and was silver in color.
I don't remember any of the actors in it.
It was a Saturday morning kids show and was live action. It was on one of the big 3 networks, I know this because we ...
I'm trying to remember the title of a book I read perhaps in 2010 or 2011. The book was a used paperback at the time, and might have been published in the naughts or the nineties. The cover of the copy I had showed some sort of slug creature that was very reminiscent of the Ohm from NausicaƤ and ...

Why were so few at the battle?

There's a fan theory that Petyr Baelish is the secret father of Robert Arryn, the son of Lysa Tully and presumably Jon Arryn.
He warmly greets Robyn each time he sees him, and this is something he does not do for others. He's not affectionate with anyone else, but he hugs this young boy.

I'm asking this more due to the animated shows and movies as I haven't seen the recent 2017 Wonder Woman movie. She often says "Hera give me strength." Does she get a power boost, so to speak, or is it more an expression?
One example from the show Justice League Unlimited:

Duke Leto was very well aware of how the attack against his house would take place. He even predicted the Sardaukar troups disguised as Harkonnen and that he would die.
My question: Could the Atreides have won if Yueh hadn't sabotaged the house shields? ("Won" in the sense of "ward off the attac...

We all know he is stronger and more durable when in his organic metal form. My question is does he have additional powers? Specifically energy based ones. I only ask this because on the marvel wiki it shows him having an energy level of 5.
The energy level of 5 seems to indicate long ranged proj...
I read it as a young teen (so early 80s). It was (I think) a four book series. It starts with an attack on the home-world of the 'Interplanetary Police' - there was a name for them, but if I could remember it I'd probably have the title :) - with a radiation/poison that ate into the bones. All w...
Phased Plasma Guns (PPGs) are used on ships because they won't penetrate ship hulls. Based on what I've seen there don't seem to be much use of body armour, (metal or otherwise).
In a setting where PPGs are so common, why is noone wearing protection against them?
The same is argued for superman's heat vision. One argument that has been introduced is that he converges the beams such that they destructively interfere at the intended point of contact.
But what about Vision, how he controls the distance the beam from soul stone travels.
Is it in his control?
In the Chamber of Secrets Fawkes appears in the chamber while Harry is fighting the Basilisk through apparition

My kids are that age, 12 years old, when I remember reading what seemed the best science fiction book ever. It was about 1968 but I think the book was a few years old. It had gorgeous colour templates of strange worlds in it. One scene had small cigar shaped spaceships that dropped little cott...
A piece of Star Trek lore that appears commonly in fan-fiction is that of t'hy'la, which is a friend, brother, and/or lover. From what I've read, this was introduced by Gene Roddenberry in a footnote in the novelization of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
After that novelization came out, was this...
I'm interested to know which individual, living or dead, Jedi or Sith, had the highest midi-chlorian count prior to Anakin's birth. Anakin was known to have been the "highest" when he was discovered and tested by Qui-Gon at more than 20,000 midi-chlorians.
QUI-GON : Make an analysis of this b...
@Babelfish such a strange choice of quotes. He picked "it's off the charts" instead of "no Jedi has that many midicholorians" to show that Anakin had the most midichlorians
on a tangentially related note, I just realized how stupid it is that the Jedi couldn't sense how powerful Anakin was in the Force
at least twice, they had to use technology to confirm it. But this kid is supposed to be the most Force-sensitive ever
meanwhile Anakin was able to detect Obi-wan on the Death Star. They could've been hundreds of kilometers away
@DaaaahWhoosh actually if I had chosen that quote i'd have answered my own question (the answer's most likely Yoda anyway), so I chose not to include the whole quote in. ;) Anyways I love asking questions I know the answer to
In the Shannara series The Defenders of Shannara, we learned that Paxon Leah is a descendant of the Ohmsfords. While he didn't have the magic of the Wishsong, his sister did.
Now, Tarsha has the Wishsong, and we can surmise that the series takes place at least 200 years after Defenders (there's...
scifi.stackexchange.com/q/161971/4918 "Why didn't Fawkes apparate Harry and the others out of the chamber?" I don't think we can really answer this, because we don't know what Fawkes can really do. Maybe he has limited uses of teleport per day, would have to use multiple because he can't carry four people at once, and has already used some to get the hat there quickly and doesn't want to waste any unless it's an emergency.
Maybe he wasn't sure what the other two or three people would do if he teleported one or two out at first.
Maybe Slytherin was careful and had the Chamber dimension locked and surrounded by metal walls everywhere, so that wizards can't just greater teleport in there.
Maybe he can't even carry any person when teleporting, and that scene with Dumbledore was actually Dumbledore teleporting himself, and he as the headmaster had a fast way out.
I think the first one is the most likely: he doesn't have unlimited uses of teleport, and he doesn't like to use it outside an emergency.
In the film "Star Trek: Beyond" we see the Yorktown Starbase. We are only told that it is buildt in interstellar space, to not prefer some race, and also that the base is near the Necro Cloud Nebula.

@Edlothiad sure, but there are so many possible in-universe explanations. it just annoys me in general when people see something extraordinary accomplished with magic once and then ask why people don't use that kind of uber-magic all the time, as if all magic was easy and not even the most powerful ones required costs.
it's such a typical Muggle behavior.
explains why wizards are afraid that people will want magic solutions to all their problems
do people ask this sort of thing about works other than Harry Potter?

When I was a teenager (which would have been the mid 80s), I read a series that I really enjoyed, but I can't recall the name of or any of the major details of. From the answer to another question I learned the following bit from A Song of Ice and Fire:

There's a bug when editing a post where the "How to Edit" and "How to Format" windows get mixed in with the map links at the bottom of the page.

Trying to remember this 1970s novel. I am pretty strongly sure it was published in the 1970s or late 1960s from the style. I read it before 1982, in a paperback edition.
The protagonist lives on his small yacht. He meets up with a scientist who is studying the viscosity of the seawater near th...

maybe when I get home I'll see if I still have the books. But I did quote from an answer about why people didn't use side-along apparition in other cases
Virtual and Augmented Reality are topic of many cyberpunk or similar books, yet I cannot recollect of those authors who approach to describe a VR/AR immersed workplace in a more or less "hard scifi" style i.e. going to more detail and following laws of physics etc.

If the Flash had a Sabre Sword and ran at the speed of light could he defeat most heros/villains in the DC or Marvel universe? It seems like this would be an unstoppable weapon combination.
It starts off with an alien abduction, not sure but might be the parents of the protagonist. I remember the main character beeing maybe 16 years old as he is riding a motor cycle and playing Football (american). There are other protagonist that each fly in a seperate spaceship that can asseble to...

@JackBNimble Hm. I think they purged that along with the link to the blog (where it used to be near "chat" and "log out" in the top left corner in the SE dropdown)
From Pottermore:
Witches and wizards are not averse to laborious calculations, which they can, after all, do magically, so they do not find it inconvenient to weigh in ounces, pounds and stones; measure in inches, feet and miles; or pay for goods in Knuts, Sickles, and Galleons.
(Pottermore...
@JackBNimble I've been itching to write a feature request to have that link back, but since we're getting the new topbar anyway, I figured we should wait for that.
Not sure when exactly I read this, may have been in the 90s or early 00s.
The novel is set in north America I think. Some kind of energy beams or rays from space rain down on Earth. Where they happen to hit a human, that person gains some kind of power. From what I remember the powers were not ...
@Derpy Spaceballs makes much more sense than midichlorians.
@Adamant scifi.stackexchange.com/a/128804/4918 suddenly got like eight upvotes in a day, so I got another bronze Enlightened for it. Half of that badge is yours really, so thanks.
@JackBNimble They're no longer being automatically featured, so the only way I know of to pin a blog link to the main page would be to create an 'event' for it, which seems a bit odd.
In fact, no, even that wouldn't work, because the URL link for a Community Event has to be on the SE network.
It might be worth asking the Worldbuilding people how they've managed this. I seem to recall they've fixed up some clever system with featured meta posts.
Right, yes, found it. They have a question promoting the latest blog post, which they edit every time a new one comes out, and an answer listing all the blog posts.
Didn't @b_jonas already make a meta post on SFF to list all the blog posts?
One of the things I really like about my programming job is that when I see our users flagrantly abusing a feature for some unintended purpose like that, I actually have some ability to fix the system so they can do the thing they want to do in a sensible way.
Plus, remember all the grumpy sods who'll DV/VTC any meta question which isn't "what meta should be for" (obituaries, blog announcements, etc.) If we keep it in one post, sooner or later they'll all run out of votes on it ;-)
Oh, that reminds me. I should poke a CM/dev again about this. I suspect with all the back-and-forth on the status-... tags, it fell off their to-do list and got forgotten.
In Babylon 5 S3E10: Severed Dreams, the station along with the EAS Alexander and EAS Churchill are attacked by the EAS Agrippa and EAS Roanoke, plus supporting ships. @Randal'Thor scifi.meta.stackexchange.com/q/10266/4918 and I stopped updating it as the new blog got a sane full table of contents (with an obviouus link from the fronpage)
@Ixrec Exactly. So since the old blog didnát have a TOC, I just made one.
@JackBNimble That's not a problem, we can just start a new answer after every 40 blog entries.
@JackBNimble WHAT?
Wtf, it's no longer linked from Sci Fi main page? OH NO!
Is that a feature or a bug according to the SE overlords?
@JackBNimble You're coming here to Hungary or Ukraine for a good dentist, right?
Oh wait, you're in the US, not in the UK, so you can't do that. You're out of luck then.
@Randal'Thor Probably (but you'll have to ask people who read ASOIAF).
The official-looking links in the footer were never intended to point off-site; that worked briefly for a short time on the main site because it was still pointing to the old Blog Overflow site, which was redirecting to the off-site blog...
The redirect still exists, but the footer no longer li...
"I prefer the way Worldbuilding does it: a meta post corresponding to the latest post, with an event that announces it on the sidebar for some length of time. That gives y'all complete control over how long each post is promoted, while giving readers some context before they end up off site (and a convenient way to post feedback if there's a problem)." Shog says
Pity.
Could we get back the blog link in the top left dropdown menu then? He doesn't categorically say that we can't.
@b_jonas That feeling when you try to upvote a nice answer and get a "You can't vote for your own post" error ...
@b_jonas "As a general rule, we're not going to send folks off-site via an official-looking link unless there's an amusing 10-hour YouTube video on the other end." -- Shog9
Unfortunately, I doubt SE will want to put much developer time into this.
I'd be in favour of doing a Worldbuilding-style meta post to promote new blog posts (featured tags would make it even easier than creating events), perhaps using the text of your existing list. But it's Jack's call (and maybe Mike's and CE's - not exactly sure who does what these days).
