Q: Why didn't Elrond or Círdan take the ring from Isildur by force and destroy it?

Petr Pudlák 'Alas! yes,’ said Elrond. 'Isildur took it, as should not have been. It should have been cast then into Orodruin’s fire nigh at hand where it was made. But few marked what Isildur did. He alone stood by his father in that last mortal contest; and by Gil-galad only Círdan stood, and I. But Isil...

Joe FrommThis is a book I read years ago - likely in the late 1960s or early 70s. It was a hardback, and I think (long time ago) the cover had a T-Rex strapped to the back of a rocketship in space. @SQB That's a good thought. I can see cases, though, where a question might be controversial and need long term protection.

Yes, but this time it's in Google's synopsis.
It's in the list of actors and the roles they play.
20:34
oh ouch
I am very much looking forward to the WW film, although based on the DC adaptations, I'm not convinced a spoiler really matters
By way of explanation, the movie Lone Star is one where the spoiler will ruin a legendary film--most modern plots, not so much
But again, I'm quite hopeful for this new addition!
SQB
SQB
It's like searching for Scooby Doo Mine Your Own Business and seeing Casey Kasem listed as "Hank / Miner 49er".
(I hope I didn't spoil anything with that example).
I thought the biggest spoiler for the... Diana Prince... film was the fact that she is obviously alive 100 years later.
I think in a solo superhero movie it's not even a spoiler when the lead superhero survives at the end. That's just the default.
I do quite the desaturated tone they used for the Batman/Superman thing with Mark Zuckerberg as Lex Luthor
It looks like they'll have the same film quality for this one, only much more WW, which is how it should be

Q: H2G2: Why three pints?

JackWas the 3 pints of beer Ford wanted Arthur to drink, for space travel preparation? Or the shock he may feel, when the Vogons arrive and destroy earth? I assumed for a few years, it was for a more "comfortable" feeling of being teleported off earth into space, but now I am not sure.

@SQB Dare I ask if it was about time travelling robot sex?
that could totally happen in the next Terminator movie
@Ixrec I gave up on those about halfway through #3. I have no idea how many they've done now.
I believe I've only seen 1-3 but they've had 5 in total.
1 and 2 are still the only great ones, that much is quite clear.
@Tango some day they'll have made so many that we'll have to send someone back in time to stop them from making the original
20:49
that sounds like the start of a Zoolander movie
@DaaaahWhoosh You know, I can't argue with that at all.
@Ixrec I'd go so far as to say 1 is great and 2 is good fun with great FX, but it's not as solid a script as #1. In 1, you have two completely vulnerable humans fighting something much greater than they are. In 2 you have a shield (the T100) between them and the bad guy. Yeah, it was fun, but I felt 1 was far more compelling.
I like T2 more. I have no deep thematic justification for this.
it's kind of like Alien. The original is more horror, the sequel is more action.
I actually wonder now if those sequels would be as good without the original setting up how badass the characters are
that's a really good point actually
@Ixrec Nothing wrong with that. If you were to bring up some "deep" justification, we might have an interesting discussion to compare the two, but there's nothing wrong with liking something simply because you like it. Hell, I still enjoy Lost in Space reruns.
@DaaaahWhoosh That's a point many miss: The two are in different genres.
20:55
I still remember when I first saw T2 being amazed at Arnie reloading his shotgun with one hand by spinning it around.
@Ixrec haha I know exactly what you mean
Prometheus is my favorite so far, then the original, then the sequel.
interesting
I like the sense of wonder Prometheus evoked, which is not really a component of the other films
(which all have some merit imo)
hell, I even liked the Winona Ryder character--very Athena-like
@Ixrec I remember that. And I remember thinking it was cool that the T1000 had three hands as it was flying the chopper at one point.
@DukeZhou I liked the sense of wonder, but it just got to me how many stupid mistakes the crew made over and over. Any trained scientist would not do half the things they did.
21:00
I didn't even notice the three hands until I saw it mentioned in an answer on the main site.
yeah for me Prometheus is up there with Batman vs Superman in terms of wasted potential
@Tango I have to wonder if that's the slasher film element (Alien is considered by many to be the greatest slasher film of all time, and there's a reason they teach it in film schools)
like they're completely unconcerned about weird microbes on an alien planet they know nothing about
@DukeZhou Yeah, shows what happens when you don't take your antibiotics...
