I wonder if the Everstorm is not the work of Odium.
Sure, it’s all red lightning and dark clouds, and the spren that summon it are an evil bloodred color. But that’s precisely why it probably isn’t Odium’s work. It’s too obvious.
And there’s something else. Odium’s color is not red. Odium is associated with gold. He’s described as being a golden light. A spren that was surmised as a Voidbringer was golden.
Further, so far as we know, this Desolation is different from previous. It simply restores Connection and Identity. The others (which were almost certainly Odium’s work) were different somehow.
Now, Odium definitely has plans. I’m sure he’s involved somewhat. But I don’t think he sent the stormspren, or arranged for the Everstorm to restore the Parshendi.
I think it was Autonomy or Cultivation.
Cultivation - she might not like what humans reduced . The Parshendi are called the Old People, and the Nightwatcher (an aspect of Cultivation?) commands the Old Magic. Further, the Parshendi method of gaining powers seems well-suited to Cultivation’s intent - not oaths, like Honor, but growing and changing oneself.
Coincidence? Perhaps, but if Cultivation really does have some connection with Parshendi, she can’t be happy about the harm that the human inhabitants of Roshar have perpetrated against them. A little Everstorm to restore them, and give humans a reckoning might be just her thing - with Odium not interfering because it somehow suits his plans. Perhaps not only Odium was bound by the Oathpact, and Talenel’s continued suffering - perhaps Cultivation’s hands were tied.
Autonomy - I think we’ve seen her associated with the color red before. And of course, her association with Odium? Her presumed desire to see people free to choose their fate? It makes perfect sense that she’d want to free the Parshendi from legal and mental slavery - and possibly help Odium out along the way, since she’s thrown in her lot with him for unknown reasons.

Q: How fast is the spore drive compared to other ships in the show?

OllyI am trying to get my head around this as it doesn't make sense to me at the moment. We are in 2256 and the Discovery is currently experimenting with a spore drive. During the show it is saying how it can travel vast distances pretty much instantaneously. However, in other series a lot of speed...

Q: How Hela can hold or break Mjolnir?

AtanuCSEI'm talking about Thor: Ragnarok trailer We know that Thor's hammer can be held only by them who are worthy of it. In the first trailer we saw Hela broke Thor's hammer. But how Hela is worthy of it. She has evil intentions and wants to destroy Asgard. Not only she held it, she broke it into p...

Major Stackings edited scifi.stackexchange.com/a/86140/4918 from a non-answer to a much later answer that's a duplicate of the first answer. What should I do in that case?

Rollback then convert the answer to a comment on the first answer.

@Bellerophon I can't convert it, I'm not a mod.

3:43 PM
So get a mod to retire, win the election then rollback the edit and convert the answer to a comment on the first answer.

@Bellerophon It's a comment on the question, not on the answer.
Or something. I'm not sure it's even worth keeping as a comment.

You sure it isn't a comment on the answer?

@Bellerophon I'm not sure.
Yes, maybe it's a comment to the answer.
scifi.stackexchange.com/q/171526/4918 story-id question needs some advice comment on how better to post stuff

Q: Is Odonian Anarchism viable? If not, why not?

KonchogLeGuin cites Kropotkin and Goodman as influences over Odonian Anarchism, and generally it's considered to be a branch of Anarcho-syndicalism - but there's a really important aspect of Odonian education, to do with the notion of any form of ownership as an anathema. I see it that the text itself ...

obviously he's asking why simple continuous revolution of aesthetic of naive anarchism isn't viable. easy rep

I'm not sure if this is some universe I've never heard of or if OP is on drugs.
It appears to be a real tag
This has got to be the strangest legit question I have seen.

4:33 PM
wow that was a quick deletion
but looks like it was about "The Dispossessed"
The Dispossessed: An Ambiguous Utopia is a 1974 utopian science fiction novel by American writer Ursula K. Le Guin, set in the same fictional universe as that of The Left Hand of Darkness (the Hainish Cycle). The book won the Nebula Award for Best Novel in 1974, won both the Hugo and Locus Awards in 1975, and received a nomination for the John W. Campbell Memorial Award in 1975. It achieved a degree of literary recognition unusual for science fiction works due to its exploration of many themes, including anarchism and revolutionary societies, capitalism and individualism and collectivism. It features...

Q: Can we get our blag link back, please?

GallifreyanThe new topbar just arrived to SFF! confetti shower Before that, and before the blogs were discontinued, we used to have a link to our very own blog in the SE dropdown menu. It was removed after SE discontinued hosting community blogs. However, our blog still lives and is updated regularly. Rig...

@Gallifreyan re scifi.meta.stackexchange.com/q/11421/4918 wasn't the link already wrong for ages, because it linked to the Stack Overflow blog or something?
I don't think it broke just now
Oh I see. Probably that's what you mean there.
Isn't it basically the same as the old top bar, only a bit rearranged and the "help" really well hidden (it's in the first line of the dropdown but overlapping the name of the site)
Also the bottom bar is rearranged a lot too.

Q: Can we make our Top Bar sticky?

BlackwoodThe two SE sites that I visit the most are SFF and Stack Overflow. It's good that they now have a similar top bar. However, the only thing I really liked about SO's new top bar was the option to make it sticky (stay at the top of the window when you scroll down). SFF's new top bar is not sticky...

Q: Can we make our new top bar slightly transparent black, like our old one?

MithrandirOur old topbar was slightly transparent: (from the Web Archive) Our new one, however, is not: This means that we don't get the full advantage of our awesome design. It's a slightly lighter color, which means it blends in less, and, in my opinion brings down our looks slightly. Editing the...

A: One person constructs a building, another tears it down, unaware of each other

MurphyI've got a short story here that quite matches your description. It's by Herbert W. Franke and appeared in his (IMHO excellent, stunning, and ageless) collection "Der grüne Komet", chapter 46 "Das Gebäude" (for the non-german readers: "The green comet" - "The building"). I don't know if the colle...

Q: One person constructs a building, another tears it down, unaware of each other

SchorschI heard a synopsis of this story in the early 2000s. The story is set on a different world, one that has two suns. The suns may have been of different colour. While the first sun is up, the people living under it are forced to construct an enormous building (I think under the supervision of robo...
