@lemon thank you very much
but did you test it?
@lemon this is the results I get pasteall.org/pic/index.php?id=115181

4 hours later…

@Tak hello, apply scale (as said many times in answers ; ) but there is a bug (corrected in the edited answer)
Tak
Tak
@lemon okay, will try it now :)
@lemon now works :)
good!
Tak
Tak
but how I can construct the faces?
and assign these faces to a vertex group
for now I don't know... I think converting to curve will fail...
Tak
Tak
like I think each vertex group can have one face as it's 2D
05:17
Well in fact, vertex group needs no face
But the answer as it is, would respond to your question but only before you edited it
But you have the freestyle approach too...
Tak
Tak
mmm, okay
You know: building faces here is the same problem as for fonts => hard
But some other approach may work (if someone find it)
do you need the faces ?
Tak
Tak
So this is what I did:
I selected a group of faces and pressed F to make face but it didn't work properly
will send a screenshot:
I need faces to set their color
Have you tried alt+F ?
Tak
Tak
any other idea? like for example, sometimes I want the head to be colored by a certain color sometimes the legs,.....
what I was doing before is that I have vertex groups and I have a material for each vertex group, then I select the vertexgroups vertices and assign their material color.
will try it now, 1 sec
05:26
you can select all and alt+F
brb
does it work? It does here
Tak
Tak
this is the results:
when selecting all vertices and hitting F
when selecting all vertices and hitting Alt+F
the first one is better as it has less than 100 faces but there is one face created which is not good as you can see
the problem with the alt+f one is that it has more than 4000 faces
well it is the third of the original... but you can decimate a bit I guess
or limited dissolve... but limited dissolve will lead to one big face
that was why I commented your question about the "hint": ok you want to remove faces but how to now which ones?
we need a hint for that
or... limited dissolve, then delete faces then alt+F again
that leads to 1800 faces here
but again, ok less faces, but probably not the faces you wish to keep, am I right?

I will show you my ultimate goal
so each space of these to be a separate face
I think one of the problems that there are many vertices especially in the feet, hands and face
So you can try the following:
Tak
Tak
and I don't mind doing this manually as I will only do it once, but I don't know how
Make some kind of grid from the red lines
and use it as knife project on the mesh
you see the idea ?
Tak
Tak
okay, I'll switch the computer, be right back in 5 -10 mins
ok
Tak
Tak
06:09
back
@lemon okay, will try now
ok
Tak
Tak
but to do this I need faces, right?
or I can do it using vertices without faces?
I don't remember... give it a try (I will do to)
Tak
Tak
okay
will try now
without faces for the grid
I have a result for 1900 faces
Tak
Tak
06:26
How?
also I tried that, I selected all vertices then selected the big face then hit P and choose by selected and how I have a big face
but there is a triangle kind of thing, not sure why it exisisted
Here is the way I did:
run the script
now edit mode, and alt+F
then x, limited dissolve
then x, faces only
alt+F again
then the knife project cut
Tak
Tak
okay
so after this step "then x, limited dissolve" there are only 304 faces
yes maybe but not the cuts corresponding to the grid (red lines in your image)
but yes... you can try the cut at this step, you are right
and that is giving 323 faces here... good !
but... why don't you use this grid directly, in fact ?
:S
Tak
Tak
06:42
what do you mean?
I mean, is the grid from the red line accurate enough ? (without doing all the previous parts and calculation)
Tak
Tak
no not really
I just created it so you understand what I wanted to happen
but I can do this accurately
ok so, to summarize:
the script
then edit mode and alt+F
then x, limited dissolve
and the knife project cut
is that ok for you ?
Tak
Tak
this is what I did:
1- run the script
2- edit mode then alt-F
3- x limited dissolve and set it to 1 degree
4- select all in edit mode and hit P separate by loose parts
5- delete all objects except for the contour one
so there are many faces in the feet and hands, there is no way I can combine them into one face?
06:57
I don't know how: again there is no hint to guess a calculation for these parts and not for the other ones
Tak
Tak
I thought there would be a way if faces are on the same plane they can be merged to fill the contour?
I don't know...
I need to work on my job now
I'll be back later if you need
Have a nice day
Tak
Tak
okay no worries, I followed the freestyle solution and it produced a good result :)
may be the steps can be converted into a python script :D
