But the twist is that it could be $2cos^{-1}x$ as well !!!
You had substituted x=sin theta... You could substitute it as x=cos theta as well !!!

No both the answers are not correct simultaneously... When : -1/root(2) <= x <= 1/root(2) , your answer is correct but not cos^{-1}x$.... But when 1/root(2) <= x <= 1 , cos^{-1}x$ is correct but not sin^{-1}x$
