This usage guidance makes no sense imho vegetarianism.stackexchange.com/questions/tagged/science
Why would people ask questions here about the process of science?
@nloewen what did you mean by that? ^

1 hour later…
02:11
@Zanna I was going for "how do we know" style questions.
Reading it the second time around it's not as clear as I thought it was

4 hours later…
05:48
Hmm
I think we should synonymise to because I can't think of any difference between them for our purposes

2 hours later…
08:16
Hello! :)
morning :)
@DavidS I'm feeling the same at the moment!
How are you this morning?
08:34
I'm good thanks :)
Yesterday all kinds of clarity started coming back to me
What do you mean? ^^
I mean my mind started to be sharp after all the fuzzy days of not having had enough sleep
how are you?
Oh, ok. Great news :)
I'm good too, thanks. I already missed the weekend :D
(not sure of my last sentence structure :/)
08:55
Morning everyone!
I'm looking for an infusion that will help me to sleep better. Do you have any recommendations?
Hello @A.A. !
I think Zanna would better answer that question than me. :P
09:19
@A.A. valerian is the strongest
have you tried camomile?
lavender and limeflower is a good one
@Niitaku If you mean you wish it was still the weekend "I already miss the weekend" ;)
@Zanna Yes, that's what I meant ^^
09:33
:) I know how you feel!

1 hour later…
10:37
@Zanna Did you do something with your suggested edits? Amount is varying. :/
11:04
???
11:21
Thanks! I've tried camomile but it wasn't very effective. I'll give valeriana a try
11:39
@Zanna Sometimes 4, other time 3, etc. without any history. That's weird :/
In the queue
11:58
I revised one after doing it
Maybe that's the reason it's strange
12:10
Maybe :/
Something bad about it?
@A.A. I would try the gentler options first :) lavender and sage is also really nice. You can make it yourself from fresh
@Zanna I don't think so. I just found it strange ^^

1 hour later…

@Zanna The research tag usage description says it is for questions asking for studies, which my question didn't seem to fit into as it asks about how a determination is made, not what determinations have been made backed by studies. If we synonymise, maybe the usage guideline should be adjusted?
Hello @nloewen
Don't worry, tag wikis can be updated to fit their usage
@Zanna Why did you say you cannot suggest synonyms? You should be able to do it since you have more than 1250 rep.
@Niitaku you also need 5 points in that tag
@nloewen we can fix the wiki, let's discuss...
@Zanna Oh, I forgot that ^^"
I just don't want to assign arbitrary meanings to science and research
@Zanna Absolutely.
In general, I would describe science as the process of finding knowledge (the scientific method) as well as the information that results from that process.
I generally use the word research to describe a search for information, and in that sense asking a question on StackExchange is a form of research. Although I realize it's more proper definition is really close to the process part of science.
Science: Search for knowledge and knowledge itself
Research: Search for knowledge
14:05
research is also the knowledge itself - noun and verb
"is there any research?"
at least in British English
I've rewritten the usage guidance for
Use this tag when you are asking about scientific studies. If you are asking about experiments done on animals (an ethical issue for veg*ns), please use the tag [animal-experimentation]
Okay, I'll edit my tags
you can leave the tag, and we can synonymise?
I am going to suggest the synonym
Okay
it's up to you though!
Yeah synonym is better. I thought we didn't have someone who was able to suggest it.
14:13
it's alright, we can post it on meta
I suggest to create a meta question
we can vote on it when we have enough points
Ok, Zanna said it before me :P
haha "great minds think alike"
;)
15:00
@Zanna just out of curiosity, where did you mean to post that answer? (the "oops" one on meta)
I think this meta has had enough time, making a new questions feed into chat with the name of "The Gardener".
Riker has made a change to the feeds posted into this room
Riker has made a change to the feeds posted into this room
should work now, I've also renamed the meta bot into "New Meta Posts" (instead of the default "Stack Exchange")
@Riker It was a synonym suggestion - I posted it in the right place - on your "let's clean up our tags" post (but maybe I should have made it a question... seemed not worth it as too obvious)
ah, okay

Q: Why do vegans call milk "mylk"?

NiitakuI saw that vegans often use the word mylk instead of milk, like in this answer. Why do vegans call milk mylk?

Q: Is there any evidence connecting meat consumption and violent behaviour?

nloewenA connection between animal cruelty and other forms of violence has been observed by a number of people and is often quoted in various forms. He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals. - Immanuel Kant ...

Q: What percentage of farm animals are mistreated in some way?

Alex HallMany non-veg*ns agree that various practices on farms are cruel and do not wish to support them, but believe that the practices are rare. I want to collect as much data as possible to counter this belief, and show that being an ethical omnivore is not easy. A major reason for the belief is that ...

Q: Is there a shop selling vegan sneakers in France?

A. A.Are there any vegan sneakers that you can actually try physically before buying in France? Most of the (European) brands that I've found so far only sell online. I know that Vans has some vegan sneakers but I was looking for something different.

Q: Are there any vegan BDSM products?

A. A.Are there any vegan alternatives to leather-based BDSM products (clothing, whips,... even handcuffs are have a leather covering sometimes)?

Q: Should we synonymise [science] -> [research]?

ZannaCurrently we have research (7 questions) Use this tag when you are asking about scientific studies. If you are asking about experiments done on animals (an ethical issue for veg*ns), please use the tag animal-experimentation And science (1 question) Use this tag for questions concernin...

15:37
I thought you were calling it "The Gardener"?
chatbots can be tricky, lemme see if I can tweak that
</tweaking> :)

18:03
Hi Erica :)
Hiya :)
Not that I'm Erica...
Me neither :P
@Niitaku Good evening!
@DavidS Hey! :) How are you?
@Niitaku Good thanks, had dentist today, no issues.
18:12
@DavidS Cool :) Didn't hurt then?
Nope, just a checkup
Back in two years.
18:40
@DavidS excellent!
That's what you want. Hate it when they have to do things
Never had things done... but that's mostly because my parents stopped taking me (which indicates an age range) and I only just worked up the courage to go two years ago (so this was my second one at this particular dentist)
I couldn't believe it when he just said "looks fine, come back in 2 years" (which was today)
Apparently it's just genetic, some people have stuff done all the time others don't.
19:42
Hmmm yeah :) lucky you
I think it relates to diet too
But I think everything relates to diet, so best to ignore me when I say that XD
I agree with you but I had a terrible diet in my teens.
Well could stand some improvement lately too.
Anyway
How were your days @Zanna @Niitaku ?
Not too bad (for a Monday), thx :)
And yours?
Not so bad just maybe wasted it dossing about.
19:59
dossing like dos and don'ts?

Q: What books are recommended for the ethics of veg*nism?

StoofWhich books are recommended for the ethics of veganism/vegetarianism?

20:21
@TheFarmer Oooh, that may be a "shopping list" :/
@Niitaku No, dossing asin 'dossing about' which is the same as 'messing about' in that you're not doing anything productive.
Or, being lazy. Dossing is less energetic than messing :)
20:40
bother -- The Gardener seems to be not paying attention
so here:

Q: What rules does this site currently follow? When does a highly-upvoted post become a rule?

sv. What rules does this site currently follow? Are the rules being followed here arbitrary ("subject to interpretation") or are they very-well-defined so any user can easily lookup a rule if required and dispute a mod's decision citing a particular rule? Are the site FAQs (although there are none a...

@DavidS lol, ok
@Erica The Gardener is a bit lazy :/
20:56
@Erica I VTC
@Niitaku Possibly just misdirected. I'll have to look at that later :D
maybe he just has ADHD
ADHD?
Attention erm...
ooh something shiny
@Erica o.O
@Erica Ok, I googled it
^^
20:59
@Niitaku Attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder.
What's with the law & order approach... yuk
It's why I will sometimes fail to notice things you say to me in chat (fair forewarning) XD
That's what I found :)
Ima answer
Diet
21:00
^
I'm both serious and tongue-in-cheek there for @Zanna's benefit
@DavidS just got back from work. Busy day
@DavidS ^^
@DavidS haha you are on my wavelength
lol
21:02
@Zanna Well, it's the right wavelength why else would we both be on it ;)
Haha it's the only one I know so seems right by default
What are your thoughts about this question?

Q: What books are recommended for the ethics of veg*nism?

StoofWhich books are recommended for the ethics of veganism/vegetarianism?

I don't say my opinion to not interfere ^^
(You're not obliged to say here, you can just vote on it to keep it confidential)
@Niitaku eh?
Your thoughts about the question above (Is it ok? Should it be closed?)
Oh er, honestly I don't care.. hehe.. I'd be interested to know what books people recommend if I'm honest, since it's specifically ethics and not recipes.
21:08
We're striving to encourage community moderation ;)
Concern is that it could be a "shopping list" sort of question (everyone has a favorite, changes rapidly over time, etc.) -- however, I'm not sure what the veg*nism library looks like, could a community wiki reasonably cover it?
Yep I guess that's a concern.
that Q is baaaaad
it would be closed with hammers on AU
but this is not AU :)
@Erica no there's zillions of books!
21:18
Someone needs to open the vegan library.
I'd go there
*A vegan city
I would love it
^^
Just be a normal library only all the books would be good and you're not allowed in if you're not vegan
@Niitaku +1 to that!
:)
I didn't want to be presomptuous by saying a vegan world ^^
ok well it's probably the only non-vegan thing I do, but I'm gonna go burn some dinosaurs.
Oh no :( ^^
21:28
uhuh.
@Zanna If you'd like hammering, that can eventually happen, but that's generally a bad way to start as a moderator (with the obvious exception of spam)
21:48
yeah... but that one gotta go
hmm at least it is about a reasonably defined topic
but just not an SE question imho
how many folks are reviewing?
how many people have CV privilege now?
19... counting three diamonds
@Zanna Don't know that :/
Would be nice to have more.
22:04
@Riker could we possibly consider renaming to ?
It's incorrect in one word?
It is ^^"
well... it's not a word
It's readable
but other compound tags of similar type would be less readable I guess
I don't want it to be the convention because, I assume, it makes it hard to understand if English is not your L1... but I think there's a related meta question I should be looking at
I would go for existing words. As rawfood doesn't exist, I prefer raw-food.
@Zanna What other words have you in mind?
Oh, you meant if they were written without a dash?
22:19
yeah
I agree
:)
I think you are doing a great job btw
bedtime for me
later all
\o
Oh, thank you very much! I'm really touched. :$
Good night! :)
I'm going too. I'll be tired tomorrow otherwise.
See you all! :)
22:37
That was fun.
So I guess, fuel is just using animals that died a really long time ago of something unrelated..? :)
I'd be going to hell if there were such a thing.
tee hee.
ugh. I don't want to go to bed, even though I'm tired.
23:18
@Zanna hm, prolly a good idea
I'll merge that and the other tag (don't remember right now but I know there's another I wanted to) soon
@Niitaku it's absolutely off-topic (I hammered(
it's a recommendation question, which are strictly off-topic (as the community has decided)
