@Adám We were looking at doing the cut operator in Dyalog APL and I always felt unhappy about the numeric selection of different types of cuts, so wanted to separate them out as separate operators, now that we have Unicode available. We started with Stencil as the first one, using the "picture" of a classical Gaussian blur as the symbol, to show the connection to image processing. We should revisit it and use some of that design space, now that people have played with it for a bit.
Agreed, J's Cut tries to do too much, but `⌺` is too limited in 3 ways: 1. Doesn't allow you to specify edge handling 2. Doesn't allow you to align neighbourhoods with the input world 3. Doesn't handle small worlds
@MortenKromberg Good point. 1 and 2 can be dealt with in a per-axis fashion, fitting each column of the right operand. The left argument could be used for a fill element. The most complicated issue may actually be the small-world one.
