11:20 AM
@Uriel Fixed. Thanks.

2 hours later…
1:24 PM
Hey guys, I just bumped into something weird (I think, anyways): I tried -reducing a list with -/(11 1 4 4) and it results in 10 instead of the expected 2. Why is that? Apparently 11-1-4-4 also results in 10.

Ven
@J.Sallé 11-(1-(4-4))
This is what it parses to :).

@Ven Yes, I noticed that. What I meant is why would this happen? I'm pretty sure anyone using -/ on a vector would assume it'
it'd subtract-reduce the vector*

Ven
@J.Sallé / is a foldright, not a foldleft.

@J.Sallé It does subtract-reduce. Which is the same as alternating sum in traditional mathematics.

Hm, I might have mixed my mind up then, I was certain that wasn't right facepalm

1:48 PM
@Adám do you think it'd be okay to have a solution for a challenge as a tacit fn that assigns the argument to a variable as the first thing? What I mean is having a fn like [doStuff]v←(args)
So the byte count would stop at the

@J.Sallé Isn't v just ?

@Adám I should probably give you more context: My argument is 11 1 4 4 and I need to subtract 1 4 4 from 11. I know I can use a Dfn, but I'm trying to do it tacitly, so I tried using ⊃-+/1↓, which didn't work.
Also, I'll need to use the input vector again later

@J.Sallé ⊃-+/1∘↓ or ⊃-+/1↓⊢ will do. (Except the +/ is monadic)

@Adám Both of those give me ¯9 which is like ⊃(-+/1↓⊢) though
Which is what I'm stuck with for a while already D:

Ven
@J.Sallé you want 2?

1:58 PM
@J.Sallé ⊃-1⊥1∘↓ as per this?

@Ven yes
@Adám same result, ¯9 :/

Ven
@J.Sallé {⍵-⍺}/⌽11 1 4 4

⍞←(⊃-1⊥1∘↓) 11 1 4 4

@Adám 2

Ven
so you could use the jot diaresis

2:00 PM
@Ven You mean tilde, not jot:

Ven
oh, right
⍞←-⍨/⌽11 1 4 4

@Ven 2

Ven
Ah, looks like I killed tryapl...
⍞←(-⍨/⌽)11 1 4 4

@Ven 2

Ven
A simple train works :).

2:01 PM
@Ven Works for me.

I just realized I was doing ⊃-1⊥1∘↓(11 1 4 4) instead of (⊃-1⊥1∘↓)11 1 4 4 goddamnit

Ven
> 1 Unable to open session file " /TryAPLServer/MiServer/ServerData/TAS000051.dcf"

@Ven What did you input? (You killed your session, not the server.)

Ven
@Adám it doesn't matter
@Adám ah yes indeed
It stores them in a cookie, right?

@Ven It does, I'm tasked with fixing that, so I'm interested.

Ven
2:02 PM
@Adám well, (-⍨/⌽)11 1 4 4

@Ven No, the session is a local file on the server.

Ven
@Adám yes, I mean the session ID.

@Ven Yes.
@Ven Doesn't hurt my TryAPL session.

Probably a hiccup?

Ven
Idk. I'll regularly kill my TryAPL sessions, I guess I should ping you next time :-).

2:05 PM
@J.Sallé Still undesirable if avoidable.
@Ven Yes, please. Especially if you recall what the last few things you entered were.

Ven
@Adám Well I still have my local history

@Ven Oh, right.

Ven
@Adám The last 3 things are typed are 11, then (-⍨/=)11 1 4 4, then (-⍨/⌽)11 1 4 4.

@Ven No (bad) luck. Thanks, though.

Turns out I think I'll have to use a Dfn anyways >.>

2:12 PM
@J.Sallé Show me what you've got and I'll try training it ;-)

@Adám Okay, I'm just adjusting some stuff
@Adám TIO

Ven
@J.Sallé What are you trying to do?

Ven
oh there are maths in there ducks

@Ven It's pretty basic maths (although the challenge is kinda 'underexplained')

Ven
2:26 PM
@J.Sallé I'm really bad at maths :).

@Ven Hahahah I feel you. I've some trouble with it too

(ain't pretty)

@Adám I should've figured it was an infix. I was trying really hard to make it work as a prefix fn >.>

Ven
2:47 PM
still thinks dfns.dyalog is a scary place

...which actually helps in golfing sometimes
@Adám uh, who is Brudzewski A.? a real person or a misspelling?

3:23 PM
@Adám ooooooh that's great stuff

4:02 PM
@EriktheOutgolfer Brudzewsky is how I sign, Brudzewski is etymologically correct, Brudzevski is what it says in my passport,…

Anyone know what this file called aplcore is doing in my home folder? Is it needed for APL to run, or what?

@Adám what you call yourself is correct...also then is there a reason for both to appear?

$ file aplcore
aplcore: Dyalog APL aplcore version 16.3

@EriktheOutgolfer No, just an oversight. John Scholes is here today, and I've told him to fix it.
@Pavel Not needed: It is a dump of the workspace from when APL found a discrepancy in the workspace and quit. You may be able to salvage stuff from it with )copy path/aplcore

@Adám I guess your passport should be fixed too :P

4:15 PM
@EriktheOutgolfer Too complicated these days. So many documents, accounts etc. would need fixing.

@Adám unfortunately that's true

@Adám Ah. Couldn't it at least have the decency to dump itself in .dyalog and not my home directory though :/

@Pavel It dumps in the current directory by default. You can specify where you want it.
:42424202 Hey, that was a better link than mine!

Would it be export AplCoreName=~/.dyalog/aplcore or export AplCoreName='~/.dyalog/aplcore' or either one?

ngn
4:24 PM
@Pavel Dyalog's environment variables must be in uppercase if you're on Linux / UNIX

Ah

4:44 PM

6 hours later…
11:12 PM
@Adám shouldn't it be trainifying?
