Is there any japanese dictionary which can query index with romaji, and show word definition with romaji?

日本語の数え方は?「行けたら」は一語、それとも二語?
っていう質問に、
結局みんな、「字数で数える」としか答えていないような・・

My (Japanese) advisor wanted to make a little comment about やばい (after hearing a mumbled ながい) explaining it's not a word well-fitted for the workplace. He also added that, according to the rumor, 漱石 would have popularized the word やばい but the tentative attempt of another Japanese student as well as my attempt to find any trace of this rumor come to naught. Anybody else has heard this strange rumor?

A: Japanese Language New Site Design

G-CamI'm quite pleased with the design and have nothing at all negative to say about it. I'd also like to point out that the font seems different which I think is a welcome change. Could you please elaborate on the site logo? I can sort of see a J and a P superimposed but was wondering if the ext...

コメントの様子だとそうかもしれない感じ?
@cypher I think the real 2ch style is not even aliased -- bitmap rendering of MS Gothic :D
@snailplane no, I think I should have to say "widely (commonly) accepted"?

「Let's not wait till the water runs dry」じゃなくてなんで「Let's don't wait till the water runs dry」なんですかね
Let's don't wait って言ってますよね
そういうのあり?
@broccoliforest 渋いよね
あの柄はなんていうのかしら、花柄? それよりこないだの、やがすりのほうがいいと思いますね

@broccoliforest Thanks, now the rumor is definitely dead to me.

To me it feels like two words are separate if you can put a space between them without really changing the meaning. I guess that's still quite subjective though.

@chocolate ikiya.jp/crest/warituke/sippou.html 七宝文だと思います
@chocolate まあここまで渋いとは思いませんでしたけど
@kuchitsu hmm... what do you mean by "put a space between them without really changing the meaning"?
まあ渋いのが "ZEN" なんでしょうね、欧米的には

Well, for example 水道 or 火山 will change too much if you look at the kanjis separately. But 私は will still make perfect sense and have same meaning to me if written with a space. I don't know, maybe it's just my European brain working the way it's used to.

ah, I see
that's a way I didn't think of
...but on second thought, it's weak against ぎなた読み
せつなさみだれうち

Never heard of ぎなた読み before... :)

5:24 PM
for example この先生きのこるには
この先 生きのこるには "how to survive from now on"
この先生 きのこるには "how to mushroom(??) this teacher" (wrong separation)

Ohh, interesting. Such cases must be especially difficult in machine translations.

oh, English does have a verb "mushroom"...
残酷なのは戦争
残酷なのは 戦争 "what's cruel(est) is war"
残酷 なのは 戦争 "the cruel Nanoha war"

I always find it cute when nouns become verbs too. :) "To google" sounds so normal now...

6:32 PM
I think "let's not" is the "proper" way to say it
I've never heard anybody say "don't let's" or "let's don't" in real life
Maybe they're used in different dialects
