Why is there gray and black in the text? One color on text

Oh I'm dead
03:02
Can I get rid of the highlighting with comments?
@AndrewLi what do you mean?
On the doc
There are highlights on sections with comments
I've got 6 and 6, just waiting 10 minutes to see if it's being affected by #HatLag
Rob
Rob
Might need a bit more
03:03
@AndrewLi i dont think you can fix that
@AndrewLi I'm not sure
Rob
Rob
I remember there were 7-8 on the second comment
It's triggering my OCD
lol
03:04
We should highlight it all
I definitely do feel hatlag. But I'll keep awake until we get blue in the face.
@veryRandomMe Was just thinking that
Whatever. I'll resolve all the comments, but they'll still be accessible through the comments button
@BalarkaSen That's a dangerous statement
03:05
@AndrewLi resolved one
@AndrewLi Lol, I just googled the same thing
Although it is pretty old
@JamesENL Intentional pun, I assure you.
Maybe I also need the [tour] link?
@MasterBob hey
stop it
03:06
@veryRandomMe why
because
oops
I added another comment with [tour]
just in case
anybody got some SO questions that i can vote on
i need to earn electorate
@MasterBob me me me me!!!!
Just not too much, don't want to get serially reversed
Easy link for your convenience
03:13
Darn it, someone ask a good question already!
The struggle
@AlexanderO'Mara does it need to be a new question?
@JamesENL Don't encourage serial upvoting
@JamesENL No, I suppose not.
@AndrewLi that's why I said "Just not too much, don't want to get serially reversed"
03:14
@MasterBob You too... don't around voting recklessly, vote fairly on worthy questions
Oh wait.... he said questions
Not answers.... my bad
Rob
Rob
There's already been a warning from bluefeet about not littering the site in search of hats
@JamesENL Asking someone to upvote your posts without any real legitimate motive other than to go towards badges or something similar is encouraging bad behavior
Rob
Rob
Even though this is for a badge, this seems like vote brigading. You should vote organically and not based on users

03:15
@Rob fine
Rob
Rob
Sort questions by votes descending if you want to find interesting questions and answers you might want to vote on
sigh that's the problem with hanging out in weird tags
Rob
Rob
@JamesENL Such as java? ;)
Ehhhh, more spring & hibernate
Although I guess an 30+ score on an answer isn't too bad
@Rob way more elegantly put than me :)
03:18
@AndrewLi and more convincing as well :)
@AndrewLi any idea how you got the taco hat
we're so close to getting the trigger for the hat
6 really seem to be a weird hat
bert's hat

I've got 6 and 6, just waiting 10 minutes to see if it's being affected by #HatLag

So nothing?

Q: Not receiving the Abominable hat?

Stephen LeppikAccording to every single answer to this question, the Abominable hat can be earned by raising a close flag on a question that is later closed. Let me be clear that I did this with three separate questions and I did not receive the hat. Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

I upvoted, you should receive the hat soon — Saiid 1 hour ago
@Saiid please vote based on content, not just because
lol
okay
You know, this whole event is pretty much asking for spam
If something asks for something, doesn't mean you should :P
how about that its bribing us for spam
with hats!
^^
03:30
> Hats? People will do anything to get a hat! It'll be anarchy! Hatarchy!
Worry not! All normal site rules still apply. If you're caught sockpuppeting for hats, you will be suspended, just as you would be normally.
Just saying
You could sell your soul for hats, nothing stopping you
lol
Any luck on Taco yet..?
nope
Nein
03:36
I've proved a few things false atleast.
i tested it and it seems to be multiple posts
Such as?
Simply not specifying the Edit Summary does not grant the hat, three in a row is also not the case. Non-alpha-num chars is also not the case.
ask andrew how he got the taco
Maybe we can get Puzzling to help work out the criteria for They Live.... We've got 4 test cases, now we just need to come up with a question to solve what all the edit numbers have in common
I'll write it up into a question
03:39
@JamesENL please speak english
Is it cheating to hire Puzzling to do it..?
@ATaco technically it is a puzzle
wait who is Puzzling
oh lol
03:41
@JamesENL I don't think it's based on number of each review type
Well we've got 4 possibilities that worked. Surely that should be enough to come up with a solution
@Volatility it has to be, surely
@JamesENL What are the criteria? I could help out
Or just post here
People have tested one of each type, and not gotten the hat (myself included)
But various edit patterns show that it can't be more than one of each type
first one is 20 actions, second 10 actions, 3rd 18, 4th 18
03:43
Yes, so the theory is it's some multiple of each vote type
(look at the second one)
could the votes be weighted?
They didn't count the skip count
That could be an issue
skip? what do you mean im so confused right now
If it helps, I got the hat just after I reviewed (Reject) an edit on a really old post
@MasterBob in the Suggested Edits review queue
03:47
@MasterBob When you are reveiwing there's an option to skip that review
You have to have more than 2000 rep to access it
yeah i know, but i doubt it counts
i meant
@Volatility i know
It'll probably be something like 'Cast the deciding approve vote on a question that has 2 rejection votes on it'
Nah, I don't think a question on Puzzling will be well received due to a lack of a concrete answer
@JamesENL possibly
@JamesENL but theres testing; there is some sort of a concrete answer at least
Hmmm maybe it's worth a shot
03:51
lol
The problem is we don't know whether it has anything to do with review patterns, so the question might not have the correct data for someone to solve it
hmm, you can try sharing the google docs link
Hmm yeah
I'm distilling the things in the google doc into the question
@MasterBob ?
@Saiid ?
03:53
You could just link to users with the hat, though I'm not sure how well it would be received
@JamesENL nah, just share the link
@Volatility yeah, along with the gDoc link
@MasterBob I'm not sure what you mean
@MasterBob to share the link in the question
I need a hat to fit my pokehead
see my hat
03:57
For taco does not typing enough in work?
But still typing something in
I don't think there's a minimum you can edit?
10 characters
No, like in the summary
Empty or minimum summaries have been proven to not be the only cause.
So, for They Live, I've looked at the reviews I did on the day I got the hat, and it looks like I reviewed 5 edits on posts at least a year old (of course it might not be limited to a single day)
03:59
@Volatility actually, that seemed to be for elementary
Elementary was edits
I mean reviews for They Live
Well They Live was in suggested edits too, no?
@Volatility oh, i see
I feel like necroing a post has something to do with it
but Elementary already does
lol

Q: Discouraging "soul-selling" for hats

Andrew LWinter Bash 2016 has started, and is in full swing. I love hats as much as the other person, but can't help notice some "soul-selling" for them (which I am also guilty for). By "soul-selling" I mean things such as votes not based on content ("This is Fine" for example, and for badges and thus, ha...

During all of WB, I reviewed 10 edits on posts at least 3 years old
(That may or may not be it; just an observation)
My theory (may have been disproven) was reviewing an edit on an old post
It's definitely not just one, otherwise I would have gotten it before I did
04:05
adding that to the tests
Why do only confirmed hats have pictures on the doc
Oh wait, hang on a tick...
My Hat based Soul Selling terminology is canon
I apparently I didn't review anything between Dec 19 '13 and yesterday
@ATaco Indeed. I liked it :D
@Volatility What does that mean? :P
04:09
Well, that might explain some of the old posts :P
@AndrewLi that means 2 years of no reviewing
That leaves me with 7
not such a round number
Eastern hemisphere must have woken up, people are posting again.
How do you underline in markdown?
What the....
Rob
Rob
04:12
@Saiid Isn't it __ text __ ?
Don't think anchor links work in chat
@Rob no, that's the same as **text**
I don't think you can.
hmm...
What the hell can I tag this question?
04:14
test?
@JamesENL What question?
My puzzling question about They Live
oh
what about in html?
There's an "unsolved-mysteries" tag :P
I just found it
Imma use that
Rob
Rob
@Saiid In markdown, or you mean on stack overflow?
Markdown uses double underline

Q: We've gone hat-mad and can't solve the riddle of They Live

JamesENLFor those that haven't heard we are in the middle of Winter Bash 2016 and everyone's gone hat mad! Now there is a group trying to work out the trigger conditions for each secret hat. We are currently looking at the hat called They Live. What we know: It has something to do with reviewing sugge...

On Puzzling?
Is that even on topic?
We've had real-life puzzles before, not closed
I hope it doesn't get downvoted to hell
04:18
@bluefeet I had hoped for users to provide at least a decent answer in the process, but it didn't turn out well. I do realize this and have already stopped. The quality of answers on SO is important to me too, and hats do not come anywhere close to justifying such behavior.
If I make it +4 years, I get exactly 5 for all of WB
I tried selling my soul for hats and all I got to show for it was this stupid nothing
2
Also please give me TacoHat
@JamesENL I just counted mine (for science, even if I don't think it's the right direction), and I get 7 Approves, 4 Edits, 7 Rejects, and 1 Reject and Edit, for 19/20 reviews before I got the hat.
Thanks
04:30
@ATaco nice
Anyone seen my answer to that meta question above? (not about They Live)
Just got the 6 hat on SO.
I don't know why.
Only thing I did in time frame is answer and edit that question (adding a tag).
@AlexanderO'Mara Congrats
You are on a roll!
Found this user with They Live and only 20 reviews during WB (all on one day, I think), and 0 Reject and Edits
5 reviews of edits for posts 3+ years old
0 reject and edits, alright
saiid stop
its a possibility
04:45
.-.
theres an anonymous nyan cat XD
They very clearly have no reject and edits
try it without the reject & edit
then, only then, do you strikethrough
We can falsify the hypothesis that it's based on review patterns if we can find two users with the exact same pattern
@AndrewLi I got 180 without a hammer--should I add that to the GDoc?
(Not sure what "Hammer?" at the end of that line indicates.)
04:54
@nitsua60 You never needed a hammer
Who told you that? :P
Nobody. The bold line recently mentioned hammers inline, then had "Hammer?" at the end.
Edited
The way it's written now looks right to me.
Can someone that's better than me at Docs edit that table in the They Live section? I messed it up somehow when I was trying to add another cell
They Live 2nd possibility(3,2,4,1) didn't work for me.
Did anybody face the same ?
04:58
Ok, well that seems like pretty good proof that it's not based on review patterns to me
Huh
I got a nice question badge on Meta.SE, and I asked it via the app. No hat
hmm
