@IsaacMoses Exactly what I said. What distinguishes "minor" fasts from "major" fasts is the latter you have to finish dinner by dark, but the former you can finish your dinner even past dark. Once you finish eating, the fast starts, even many hours before dawn.
Some people purposefully always intend to keep eating later so as to push off the start time. But say you go to sleep for the night and wake up at 3am to deal with a baby, you can't drink water anymore.
If you take a nap at night intending to eat more when you wake up, that's a different story.
