For most of the Nomination Phase in the last election in 2014 there was only one nomination (another nominated and withdrew near the beginning), then 5 more nominations came in towards the end. I wonder whether it will be similar again this time around. I think nominating early is best for the election because it gives the voters a chance to take a good look at the nominees before voting next week. I thank the first two nominees for putting their hands up quickly.
I was elected in my second election (2014) after being unsuccessful in 2013 but enjoyed being part of both elections so I hope both/all nominees will enjoy the experience and that we get to exercise our votes :-)

It may be possible that the preferred time zone is influencing possible nominees. I considered putting in myself but I see that both nominees are much better situated within the preferred time frames than I am, and I'd be happy with both.

I hope that the moderators being open about why they felt we needed another moderator will not influence any one's decision as to whether to nominate for one of the two new moderator positions. Remember that we are only 6 of nearly 3,000 voters.
I think the wording was intended to encourage nominations from the third of the world currently under represented in the team. Personally, I'll be voting along the lines mentioned above i.e. for nominees who seem to "get" SE the most wherever they hail from.

"any community member in good standing with more than 300 reputation may nominate themselves to be a community moderator."
Noting - you need at least 3 candidates to nominate for the election to actually proceed.

Given Grace Note's note, I've nominated myself! At the very least I can help the election proceed.

@EvilGenius Excellent - now the election can get even more interesting.
