@Dennis Could you pull Charcoal? Thanks

@ASCII-only Syncing.

@Dennis Sane BLC Hello world (*Hello, World!)

@Dennis What's the reason that <langname>.tryitonline.net works, but <langname>.tio.run doesn't?

3:00 PM
@StepHen Compatibility. <langname>.tryitonline.net used to be the only way to access an interpreter (which was a terrible idea), so I had to keep it. <langname>.tio.run never worked

@Dennis ok, cool, thanks

@ASCII-only There's nothing sane about BLC, but point taken. Updated.
@LuisMendo I've also updated the Hello World for Octave.

Are there any ideas for how to deal with large TIO links. For example this link is 24 kilobytes.

@Potato44 run it through a link shortener :P although people don't like that

If I remember correctly syackexchange has a 30k limit for characters in posts.
https://tio.run/##tb3bcuvKkhj4vBDzB/2CRWlvkuIFBO8URa3Fq0iK96tISVsbxIUECQIQAF7X1omeF9vd45jxtHs62seePu4OT0RHzDx5YiI84Y6YCPvVX3F@YM4fnMkqALxI1Fprtz2UCBSqsrKysrKysqoSxRGjT/74xzP0IRuKtBlLikEavG6QnCYuec1PZjbkZ0bUI8EQQSCotDZezHnZ0C@JM5ImRZkVOXgkDWXGy@KW1yA6SKqaMtaYOWlMGIPkdZZReZ1UFoa6MEhFOJ0rRObnylT0oYxzUR4DlMFrqsYbODlMdmWJmY845lVC5Lg0VYNknczx0i/zXwySVeZzRuZ0AIySuXomX0m/yh8jq4qm8wgLy@u6guLi5H/6d@s8zx6BmgxoaAq3YBF9xoSHdFQlQZR4nWCh9GtStdjoRwHyjNR4hjPBCEHRSJSFnM8kUiRZVSVHEjPxs6QkAmwhECd5xAJyC@lnpK7M@UMCdFLmeY7UVZ4VBZHFpZL8
@StepHen True, but I thought SE didn't like link shorteners

@Potato44 nope they don't, but I don't know how else to link a 24kb link
you could stick in it a pastebin or something

I guess that would work, but from what I remember there are quite a few people around here that can't access pastebin

A: Should we increase our post character limit to allow substantial stack snippets?

Jon EricsonI increased the limit to 65536 to match Code Review. There's an auto flag for very long posts, so a moderator will have an opportunity to delete or edit unnecessarily long posts. As a rule, giant posts are not good for a site. But if someone really needs to post extremely long code, they can.

3:40 PM
@Dennis that is nice to know, so we aren't at risk of hitting the limit for quite a while.

Browsers (with the possible exception of Firefox) also have URL limits though.
1. Chrome allows a maximum of 32,768 characters.
2. Edge allows a maximum of 2,083 characters.
3. IE allows a maximum of 2,047 characters.
4. Firefox doesn't seem to have a hard limit. However, if the encoded URL surpasses 1 MiB, it starts to glitch (busy spinner never stops).

3:56 PM
I just read some information about chrome that is conflicting with that about chrome, apparantly it supports 2MB urls. But I'm not going to check.

Well, these numbers are from tests I did myself. But it's been a few months since then, so things may have changed.

well, the thing about chrome I read was a few years old, so yours is probably correct

4:40 PM
@Dennis Great! I think it's better this way

@Dennis (or anyone that knows Crystal) it seems that the command line arguments for Crystal are being added in the wrong order, see this answer, the TIO link on it, and the comments. Adding a comment line argument looks to open a file with that name.

@StepHen TIO uses run, not build. This is the wrapper: tio.run/##S0oszvj/PzmxREG/uKhMv7wosaAgtahYP7mosrgkMef/fwA

@Dennis thank you :)

@Dennis can interpreters on TIO access the user's home directory (e.g. System.getProperty("user.home") in java)? I'm writing an interpreter that tries to load global libraries from a folder which defaults to a directory within user home...

That should work. I don't know Java, but you should be able to test if System.getProperty("user.home") works in the online interpreter.

@Dennis cool... my language is nearly done... just need to do some cleanup and testing :)

7:14 PM
@Dennis It seems like -- before the "$@" in the crystal wrapper might help

@ChristianSievers It would probably better to compile and run separately. I'll look into it when I get home.

8:13 PM
@Dennis Can you pull Gaia please?

9:01 PM
@Dennis Could you add Dreaderef to TIO?

1 hour later…
10:21 PM
@Dennis could you add Width? You can pass the filename as an arg, otherwise it reads source.wide.

1 hour later…
11:24 PM
@Dennis Hello, World! for Width is GZiwWOwQROWIkilBAQWmkOCDmifGww
