I did have a colleague who had a python module for numerical methods of theoretical physics, which would hand Lie algebra calculations off to a CLisp process for speed, back when NumPy was still a big hassle.
(Not that his way of doing things wasn't a big hassle for anyone else trying to understand it, but for him, it was the obvious solution.)

Once upon a time I had the intention to assimilate my different emacs configurations, taking the best from each. I still haven't done so, and now I'm sitting at one machine and wonder how I configured the python coding style checker on another machine to be most convenient.

The thing that has put me off so far is that one of them isn't a spacemacs and I added some features to it from various sources, and one of them is a university Linux which has somewhat older packages in some places. And none of them can access the other two as-is for just pushing stuff about using ssh, because they all sit in different networks and I haven't set things up to have them all in one shared VPN or similar.
