I'm looking for a reference to the list of files created during a (La)TeX run... anybody?

In addition to the .tex and .dvi or .pdf files, TeX/LaTeX/ConTeXt produces and uses lots of other files. What do they do? Which ones are used to create the document and which ones are automatically created by the compiler. What files can I safely delete?

@HarishKumar So then it’s probably a printer drivre issue, and we cannot help anymore … But if I remember correctly you used an full page background image. You could try to decrease the colour depth before you include this. If it looks good with 256 colours or even 16, try to use this version.

@HarishKumar And I would convert from PDF to PNG with ImageMagick or actually personally with IrfanView.

@egreg what are your feelings about an all-german champions final? Any comments @PauloCereda?

@Speravir Can you please give some clues regarding how to decrease the color depth? I tried to convert pdf to png with image magick. But it takes infinite time. I didn't try Irfanview. I think the problem is resolution and the complicated layers. /off to irfanview trial.

@HarishKumar ImageMagick is too hard for me, too. To get a clue of these thousands of possible settings lasts a lifetime. GIMP would be another alternative, as well. But it’s overkill for the intended use.
