@DavidCarlisle ooh
10:54
@PauloCereda Haha, ducks and secrets...

1 hour later…
11:58
Who deleted CTAN.org?
@daleif ooops
12:10
@daleif oh no!
12:32
On the bright side, the website is now very fast.
@PauloCereda :)
At least mirrors.ctan.org works :)
@samcarter @Skillmon @UlrikeFischer ^^ :)
Of course, @DavidCarlisle aces at #1
12:55
ctan.org seems back online
@egreg Yay
13:14
@egreg with an incoming easybook update.
@PauloCereda :D ... aces at #1 until he doesn't find the Bavarian button in google translate!
@UlrikeFischer already at the second update of the year :)

1 hour later…
14:24
@samcarter ooh
@samcarter Such an easy language doesn't need a translator!
@egreg :)

Question:
Is there something (package), that gives glyphs as shapes?
(I fear that not)
So that I can use coordinates, e.g. the head of the A and so on?

I had a look into pdfrender.sty, but that seems the works in another way.

Whatever: "\usetikzlibraray{shapes.letters}" could be cool. ;)
15:32
@cis Do you have a particular letter / coordinate in mind? "The head of the A" I would interpret to be "bounding box.north", so it could come down to getting the bounding box of the letter.

cis
Yes in such easy cases...
There was a user, who asks for:
16:28
@cis there is a "font to path" or similar thing in inkscape, I used it years ago. You can generate an svg with that, and from that a tikz... But for sure is not an user-friendly code, with lot of hard coded coordinates.
@cis MetaPost/MetaFun can return paths (pictures) from glyphs .
16:45
oh no, CTAN is back :)
17:02
@cis Proof of concept, but not automatic, and I do not have the time/energy/motivation to move on...

19:51
@mickep Ah ha. And you did that with MetaFun?
20:01
@cis Yes, indeed.
cis
cis
I have no idea of MetaFun; but I am interessted:

Could you post your runable "MeteaFun-LaTeX-Document"?
@cis It is not LaTeX, but ConTeXt. I can post it when at the computer.
cis
cis
Oha, I did never do anything with ConTeXt.
So if there isn't something with pdflatex, I fear I cannot do much here.
\setupbodyfont[dejavu,ss]

\startMPpage[offset=1DK]

def DL (expr p, r, s) =
  draw (point r of p) -- (point s of p) ;
enddef ;

def LD (expr p, r, s, t, u, v) =
  label(v, centerofmass ((point r of p) --
                         (point s of p) --
                         (point t of p) --
                         (point u of p))) ;
enddef ;

picture test ;
test := lmt_outline [
  text = "\bf JAN",
  kind = "path" ,
  ] xsized 20cm ;

path allpaths ; allpaths := for i within test : pathpart i && endfor nocycle ;
@cis It is never too late...
20:32
@mickep shouldn't that be usable with the metapost in lua(la)tex as well? (my metapost is rather rusty:-)
@DavidCarlisle Oh, a good moment to refresh your metapost. (Yes, I think it is in principle possible, but I don't know how.)
@mickep Oh, a good moment to refresh your latex.
@DavidCarlisle It is better if you take a step forward... :P
20:47
@mickep I think the honourable thing would be for both of us to step back and let @cis take the lead
@DavidCarlisle Yes, and I'm sure it will work out in luamplib in the end.
@mickep Well, no, because you use lmt_outline which you can't get outside ConTeXt world except when reimplementing everything.
@TeXnician there was some way to get outlines before as well, I think.
@mickep Yep using outlinetext. And @cis could start from something like this.
@TeXnician oh,lots of fun

Welcome to a new edition of AllTheDiff for easybook. This time we got real changes around the corner: changed key setting in easybase.sty on two occasions (lines 1770 and 2356) to also set a list of default options (if it exists). As a result there was also quite some text added to one line (1099) of the easybook.tex documentation.
