Questrion about metafont:

@tush ?

Lets sau that I design a font in metafont and produce the appropriate files: (.fd .afm, .t3 and vf and maybe more). Can anyone who is not a latex person, ans rather works with proprietary softwares like Adobe's, can do anything with the new type I created? Is my new font meaningful outside tex and latex's world?

12:41 AM
@tush you don't normally get afm from metafont. You could make a type3 bitmap font which woud be usable but render poorly, to get a type1 outlne font you'd need to use the tools devloped over the years to get type1 font versions of cm, but basically either trace a high res bitmap or use metapost based tool chains. Even within the tex world a pure metafont based font with pk bitmap glyphs has limited use: it prints fine on paper but most pdf readers will render it poorly.

@tush You can convert to OpenType/TrueType. I think that is how the gyre fonts were made. Have a look at this font: gitlab.com/smc/fonts/Nupuram/-/blob/master/docs/README.md.

@PauloCereda glory be to emacs users, who never need a way to exit

@DavidCarlisle :)

@DavidCarlisle boo

Almost a good limerick about Satan:

There once was a devil from hell
Who tried to open emacs, but oh well
He couldn't make it work
So he started to smirk
And switched to vim, and that was the end of his spell.
Alternative last line: And switched to vim, his magic dispel. :)
This thingy is fun to play with.

@DavidCarlisle neigh, must be: shame upon those who use emacs for they have abandoned the land of good editors.
@PauloCereda and again was the rabbit the victor!

@Skillmon :)

@samcarter_xmas_is_coming beamer has a manual?

@DavidCarlisle shocking news, isn't it? :)

1 hour later…
3:22 PM
I have a tinnitus from my 4 months old crying on my arm :(

@Skillmon Oh no! I hope it will go away...

@mickep don't worry, already turning better (not the long term disease like tinnitus...)

@DavidCarlisle The chatbot does not like your prose.

@mickep Oh, yes, defining variables and functions for silly, simple things and plain English always improves TeX code readability. People have silently listened to that AI even before it existed :D

@TeXnician Oh, hehe, that is true.

5:49 PM
@mickep you should've answered that there is no concept of functions and variables in TeX.

@mickep -- If it had been formatted using a monospace font, I would probably have recognized it immediately.

Oh no, certificate of the font catalogue expired :(

@mickep Why does the bot want to improve something that is perfect?

@samcarter_xmas_is_coming because it was asked to.

6:12 PM
@Skillmon ooh, i closed the session...
@barbarabeeton ah, I don't know how to do that in the chat.

6:45 PM
@PauloCereda Chatbot joke about ducks and dodos: Why did the duck and dodo decide to open a time machine? Because they wanted to bring back the dodo bird before it was too late!
