@cmhughes I would just let that question go. Some users can only be convinced by time about their attitude.

Hi
Any TikZ expert here just now?
I'm thinking about changing tikz-timing to use PGF internally to speed things up.
I wonder if I can use PGF macros inside a TikZ \path command.
Or the other way around, i.e. to add TikZ \path elements inside an open PGF path.

@cmhughes it is tough. I thought about dropping a what cmhughes providede is 100% tikz. However, i do not think it would help the current discussion... I think you provided a perfectly good starting point. However, he doesn't realize this.
@cmhughes Perhaps we could say that the provided methods are the most front end use for the problem he has posed. As he has no experience with tikz the common answer here should be the proper way to do the figure.. However, how to put that nicely, so we dont start a fight...

@MartinScharrer you mean something like \draw (0,0) -- \pgfpoint(3cm){3cm};?

@MartinScharrer Sure you can, I believe you can use pgfextra to acheive many pgf like things... Was that the sort of thing?

@percusse More like \draw [<options>] (0,0) \pgfmoveto{...} ...;

5:06 PM
@MartinScharrer Not that I'm the expert you look for :)

i will just try the \pgfextra... :)
2 secs

@MartinScharrer I don't think it's possible in a robust way. Since the parser is looking at the path as a whole until the ; character. But pgfextra is a limited option.
So anything comes in between would confuse the parser and you have to escape to the lower level with some magic.

@DavidCarlisle: could you tell us a few words on how you feel being legendary? :)

\draw (0,0) \pgfextra \pgfmoveto{\pgfpoint{2cm}{2cm}} \endpgfextra -- (1,0); will actually start in 0,0 move to 2,2 and draw to 1,0... So i guess that should be "no problem". Of course as percusse says, there are many pitfalls...
argh!! I always forget the back-tick is not for the chat!

@zeroth Backticks should work here
tada

5:11 PM
heheh

I must not have spaces after theopening backticks

hehe..

Batkicks - na na na na na na na Batman.

ahhh!! That was it...
:)

@doncherry Yes, I guess…

5:15 PM
@MartinScharrer , could you use the suggested method? I think it is better to do full translation of the library...

@PauloCereda I think a new interview would be in order.

@StephanLehmke ooh good idea! :D

@zeroth I was thinking to do a full translation, but at the moment users are allowed to add TikZ code between timing characters ...

@Stephan: I have a feeling you'll reach 10k tomorrow. :)

Ok. Yes, i can see that is the way to go! :) Albeit I have no clue as to whether it will show more problems than solutions...

5:21 PM
@PauloCereda You're a very trustworthy person, so I'll trust your feeling ;-)

@StephanLehmke :P

Q: What under \subsubsection?

SeagullIn a \subsubsection, I'm describing a software component, and I have to describe the classes it is composed of. I'm thinking to add some "titles" like "Class 1", "Class 2", but what's the best way to do this? The simple way I know is to put a \noindent \textbf{myTitle}, is there a smarter way? ...

Is "Hic sunt leones" a valid answer? :)

@PauloCereda We could point to my answer where I provided 100 sectional levels.

@egreg Wow, great idea! :)

A: More section headings?

egregThis shouldn't be taken too seriously, as deep numbering is not recommended. However, here's how one can have 100 sectional levels (all are modeled after \subsubsection after that level). \documentclass[a4paper]{report} \makeatletter \newcommand\level[1]{% \ifcase#1\relax\expandafter\chapter\...

@egreg I was looking for it though the ninja search, but you were faster than me. :)

@PauloCereda "section +level user:me"

5:48 PM
@egreg Mine was body:100 levels user:4427 :)

@egreg I was young and needed the rep. ;-)

Great answer BTW (I already upvoted it then).

@lockstep LOL
@egreg: I added a comment to the \subsubsection question: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/70121/… :)
The OP seems to be writing a reference manual, so I suggested to describe classes in a lighter way. :)

Q: Minion Pro Swash with mathcal

Juri RoblI want to use the swash font from Minion Pro working with mathcal, like when using the package MinionPro. I can't find a way to add fontfeatures to mathfonts. \documentclass{scrartcl} \usepackage{fontspec} \defaultfontfeatures{Ligatures=TeX} \newfontfeature{Microtype}{protrusion=default;expansio...

Friends!
Problem! The nearest package repository, IMSc, Chennai, has gone off line. So, My MikTeX package manager cannot install packages. Perhaps you guys have a suggestion?
(And, if I change the repository, should I select a http:// or ftp:// in the package manager?)
ftp:// failed... :(
http:// failed too.

6:57 PM
Perhaps a question for the main. I'll post it there.

@KannappanSampath Did you try using the update tool to pick a different location?

@JosephWright I did, but I get an error.
Oh, OK. There.
That was because, I was keeping another window open too. But, strange, it sounds.

@tohecz A thousand thanks for the circle approx. formula! Just used it for the "circular insert" macro:

Is there a badge for going to post an answer and discovering that Gonzalo Medina has posted something more elegant one minute before?
4

@lockstep For Gonzalo, yes. The Smart TeXie.
:-)

7:12 PM
@lockstep I don't think so. Otherwise we'd all be bursting with badges for having got ninja'd by egreg ;-)

@StephanLehmke Perhaps one should earn a badge whenever egreg or Gonzalo comment "I was going to post about the same, but you were faster."

@lockstep Yep it'll stand right there next to "Unsung Hero", collecting dust...

On second thought, many of those badges would go to Gonzola and egreg (for being outrun by the other one).

@PauloCereda mainly I'm worried that it means I'm not a real person.

@DavidCarlisle ... and you're not even dead either...

7:20 PM
@StephanLehmke true. I think.

@AndrewStacey Wow. That was easy. Just after you approved me, I could push. I was slightly surprised by this...

hear ye, hear ye, a new commit to the tex-sx branch!

@AndrewStacey The file I uploaded now is a bit bleak without dtx and test file. Should I delete it again or can it sit there until approx. tomorrow for me to add the rest?

@StephanLehmke Keep it there. You can always replace it with the dtx later. If you write it into the dtx, do bzr mv <old file> <new file> (this can be done even after rewriting - bzr help mv). Or do bzr rm <old file> and bzr add <new file> to simply replace.

@AndrewStacey Ok, thanks. Can I use your template.dtx as a template for my own dtx?
@AndrewStacey Another question: With svn you can TeX immediately in the checked-out directory because svn doesn't care about temporary files because of ignore settings. Whats the policy for bzr?

7:36 PM
@PauloCereda ?? :-)

@StephanLehmke That's what it's for (I was going to say that I didn't think it was me who put it there, but then I just looked at the file and saw that it must have been).
@StephanLehmke Yes, I run TeX all the time in my version. If you do bzr status then it might list the generated files as unknown but it won't force you to add them. There's a file .bzrignore which tells it to ignore certain files matching regexps. (You can still add these files, they just won't show up when you do bzr status)
Current list is:
tex-sx% cat .bzrignore
*.aux
*.log
*.pdf
*.out
*.idx
*.sty
*.hd
*.glo
*.ins
*.png
*.txt
*.gls
*.ilg
*.bbl
*.blg
*.code.tex

@AndrewStacey That's perfect! I heard someone say he was't good at organising things, but it must have been someone else than you.
... have to go home now. Later ...

7:54 PM
@StephanLehmke I only organise things when the cost of not being organised outweighs the effort needed to do the organisation.
4
@StephanLehmke Oh, and I said something a bit wrong earlier. You'll want to do bzr merge to update your copy against the launchpad one.

8:11 PM
@StephanLehmke I added the code from your answer as a test file, but I get the following error when I try to compile it:
! Undefined control sequence.
<argument> ...efun@pq \expandafter \leftinsert@pq
                                                  \expandafter {\the \dimexp...

1 hour later…
9:13 PM
@AndrewStacey Yea, sorry. I accidentally uploaded an intermediary version. Give me an hour to make something which fits together...

9:53 PM
@AndrewStacey Should work now (only the basic frame for .dtx).

10:08 PM
@StephanLehmke Yup, compiles now.

10:57 PM
hi all, anyone feel like giving an opinion?

@cmhughes Here I am.

@egreg Hi there! I posted an answer to tex.stackexchange.com/questions/70090/… but apparently it's not what the OP wanted. I followed up with him- could you read his reply?

@cmhughes It seems a rude comment. And the question is quite obscurely posed.

@egreg thanks for confirming. I'm really tempted to vote to close as too localized. Do you think that would be appropriate?

@cmhughes Perhaps "Not a real question". Let's hope that the OP will be kind and explain better what's the real need.

11:06 PM
@egreg ok; I'll hold off for the moment. NARQ sounds good
I especially like the part * I don't know anything about 3d stuff in latex so you want me to do something I can't do without dramatically much more effort than someone else that does* and I also asked for a tikz solution. It's a surface, and I drew it in a tikzpicture. Goodness gracious

11:19 PM
@JosephWright Thanks! Your blog was helpful. I used \ProcessList from xparse and things worked well.

11:56 PM
@NeilG I have a quick hack for one-sided arrowheads if you like. I couldn't make it to the question before you delete it. :)
It looks like this.
