@Rmano I don't think so (or at least my files don't have dos endings although the engine may have different behaviour looking for possible \r I suppose.
@DavidCarlisle I was thinking that maybe something strange happens if the buffer is full with the \r when looking for the \n --- I suspect that the TeX engines only see \n normally?
Ah. Hmmm. I'll stop, I am not sure if I understood. I suspected that the emergency stop was caused by looking for a \n after a \r with a full buffer...
@DavidCarlisle Yes, done that. But reality is that I use the laptop really less that I would in Linux... I installed xournalpp and (given that the gizmo has a pen) I use it folded to review documents mainly (and to meet in Teams).
@Rmano I have two issues: one is that on macOS it can't access Documents/Downloads/Desktop for security reasons, the other is that for some reason there are a few PDFs that don't read cleanly on macOS but do on Windows
@Rmano I'm only writing text, so it's not an issue for me
@MarcelKrüger I had no time (or braveness) to do a proper bug report. Maybe sometimes I'll find the time...
@JosephWright Yes, but to be able to distinguish touch and pen would be nice. On the Wacom tablet on Linux I can write with the pen and scroll with the hand, which is nice. On windows it's a mess...
@daleif what I don't get, it why this is in a patch file. I mean why can't you simply add \def\theHsection directly to the definition? If hyperref is not loaded it won't do any harm and it if is loaded it is wanted.
@daleif Thanks. I ended up creating an appendix environment and modifying the appendices code instead. This creates a cleaner user interface. My university's requirements are really weird because they want per-chapter appendices to look like chapters. I'm also trying to avoid depending on the new hook system just yet, since lots of users have older distributions or are using Overleaf.
@yo' thats what I thought I did an accidental downvote that I reverted though and that doesn't show, but it possibly related, maybe it'll sort itself at next recalc. oherwise I'll need to work to get back to a 1-6 palindrome sequence:-)
