9:41 AM
@DavidCarlisle Hopefully we can finally test TU automatically for 2e (once I get the new -c option to CTAN)
@DavidCarlisle I think we'll need to check them all by hand first!

9:58 AM
@UlrikeFischer: new update coming. :)

10:26 AM
@UlrikeFischer: you got mail. :)
Congrats to Enrico! https://twitter.com/guitexorg/status/938305563368329216
@egreg ^^

@PauloCereda just answered ...

10:41 AM
@UlrikeFischer ooh secret communication

11:00 AM
I just noticed that my rep is two palindromes, separated by a comma. Finally, a proper use of the comma!

@HaraldHanche-Olsen ooh

1 hour later…
12:38 PM
@UlrikeFischer: everything is now ready (upload complete). Now it's up to you to unveil the surprise. :)

@PauloCereda you got mail

@UlrikeFischer you too. :)

1:02 PM
@UlrikeFischer Great news!
@UlrikeFischer Now we can also apply for a ban on imitations!
@UlrikeFischer I suggest to call quizza what now is wrongly passed off as pizza.

@egreg negizza.

@UlrikeFischer Yay! Do they ear about our pizza war?

@CarLaTeX as you are here. Did you got the mails?

1:18 PM
hey @PauloCereda, what plugins do you use for vim? I think it's safe to talk about now, I don't see @DavidCarlisle

@AGoldMan I use tabular, ultisnips, unicode, airline, characterize, fugitive, vimproc, scriptease, vimshell, surround and unimpaired. :)

@AGoldMan Anathema

@UlrikeFischer yes, sorry but I'm at work at the moment and I can't try, I'll let you know as soon as I go back home

@PauloCereda do you have any good snippets for programming?

@AGoldMan I think I have some snippets from snipmate.

1:22 PM
@PauloCereda I just wrote an all purpose latex3 snippet, which expands based on the arg specs
it's pretty cool
i wanted to share that with someone who may care

@AGoldMan cool, which framework are you using?

@PauloCereda ultisnips
it's a tex styled python, if that makes sense

@CarLaTeX I just want to be sure that nothing is open on your side ...

@AGoldMan I know it and like it. :)
My short talk for this year's meeting was about it. :)

@PauloCereda where can i get a copy of this talk

1:32 PM
@AGoldMan oh I am not sure it's worth watching, nothing new, specially if you already use ultisnips. I was sick at the time (recovering from pneumonia), so I only covered the very basics and nothing more. Hold on, the UK-TUG account has a link.

@UlrikeFischer I've already added a thing after the due date, I won't do anything else :):):)

@CarLaTeX Good. @samcarter are you there??

2:01 PM
@UlrikeFischer I am now. How may I help?

@UlrikeFischer, @samcarter ^^ YAY

@samcarter We want to ask you when you have some time. We have a surprise. It makes noises, so you shouldn't be in a conference. And a not too small screen would be good too.

ooh a noisy surprise
We ducks are good at surprises!

@PauloCereda and noise!

@HaraldHanche-Olsen YES
QUAAAAAAAAAAAACK

2:09 PM
@UlrikeFischer Oh, a surprise! Right now I am in the office, but I can go somewhere else where noise is no problem. I will ping you again in a bit.

ooh the suspense is killing me

@PauloCereda I'm anxious, too!

@CarLaTeX oh no

@UlrikeFischer ping :)

@samcarter pong :)

2:16 PM
@PauloCereda, @CarLaTeX, my husband and me have a christmas present for you. It is a bit early but some ducks are killed by the suspense and not so good at keeping secrets.
I will copy the link below the teaser. The entry is protected by a password: the name of a package known to you.

ooh definitely longtable

@PauloCereda or makecell

@CarLaTeX ooh xspace is a good one. The x stands for X-treme!

@PauloCereda Oooh

@UlrikeFischer Oh, this is so gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it!

2:20 PM
@samcarter Yay!!!!

@samcarter ooh <3

@UlrikeFischer Many thanks not only to you, but also to your husband!
I love the David duck!

@samcarter and @CarLaTeX and @PauloCereda

@CarLaTeX @PauloCereda Also my biggest thanks to you!

@samcarter quack <3

2:23 PM
@samcarter Should I sent a screenshot?

@UlrikeFischer poke me when I can unveil the Vimeo link. :)

@UlrikeFischer Please do!

@DavidCarlisle ^^^^

There are so many nice new elements, like the pirate duck or the devil duck -- who of you do I have to contact to get these things for the package?

@samcarter There is a repository. Paulo will make it public soon. Did you saw the small duck on the shoulder of pirate duck?

2:26 PM
@UlrikeFischer Oh yes, it was beyond cute :)

Done, it's now visible to everybody!

yo'
@egreg This is the essence of TeXhell:
 accuracy. The RPM also enables great accuracy because of its
exponential convergence. For example, with determinants of dimension $D\leq
623$ we obtained

\vspace{-.4cm}
\begin{scriptsize}
\begin{eqnarray*}
	E_{0} \hspace{-0.15cm} &=& \hspace{-0.15cm} 1.39235164153029185565750787660993418460006671122\\

@yo' WOW

@all I probably don't say this often enough, but to all the people from TeX.SE chat: you are amazing! Quack!

yo'
@PauloCereda I'm not cheating, it's pure copy-paste! :'-(

2:29 PM
@samcarter Quack! <3
@UlrikeFischer: poke me for releasing the Vimeo video too. :)

@samcarter I will have to make a bug report about it -- the large duck interfered due to missing grouping ;-)

@PauloCereda Thanks a lot for the link - looks very interesting! I know what I will be reaing tonight.

@UlrikeFischer Please do :)

@samcarter I might update soon because the video generation is not complete. I had to include a better support, otherwise the resolution gets very low.

2:31 PM
@samcarter qua qua qua <3

@PauloCereda I think you can do it now ...

@yo' -- that is a strong understatement.

Now it's opened!
@samcarter: and you have a pull request too. :)

yo'
@barbarabeeton :)

2:47 PM
@samcarter: I contributed with exactly one duck. :)

@UlrikeFischer @PauloCereda @CarLaTeX Someone of you should write an answer for the duck pond question pointing to this video! What better advertisement there could be?

@samcarter I vote for Ulrike.

yo'
@barbarabeeton The thing is, they have numbers of ~1600 digits in the article, so there is need for some "special treatment", but this is not it.

@barbarabeeton Did you saw the TUG advertisement?

@PauloCereda I vote for Ulrike, too. The idea is hers!

2:58 PM
@DavidCarlisle will enjoy greatly the video.

@CarLaTeX The idea is my husbands ;-). I will write an answer but not now.
@PauloCereda I hope @DavidCarlisle will approve the fine art of the screenplay drafts ;-)

@UlrikeFischer :)

@UlrikeFischer -- ??? i'm not sure what you're referring to. (so most likely i haven't seen it.)

@barbarabeeton See the starred video link from Paulo at the right.

@UlrikeFischer -- ah, i had linked that, but not watched it. (waiting for lunch time, but i gave in.) you guys have done a super job! that kind of conspiracy i can appreciate. hip, hip, hooray!
3

3:16 PM
@barbarabeeton quack!

@barbarabeeton the duck conspiracy :):):)

@PauloCereda Without the Paulo duck, the video would not be the same :)

3:30 PM
@samcarter thesis. :)

@yo' Nice way to cope with the excess space inserted by eqnarray, the author at least shows good taste. ;-)

yo'
@egreg :)

@samcarter @PauloCereda @CarLaTeX I added a short answer.

yo'
oh the site is down :(

@yo' oh no

3:38 PM
@UlrikeFischer Immediately upvoted :)

@yo' Probably too many people wanted to see @UlrikeFischer answer with the link to the video :)

4:01 PM
@PauloCereda Too bad, I am in the mountains with bandwidth too limited and expensive to be watching any videos. And it's sleeting outside. But now I have something to look forward to when I return to civilisation!

@HaraldHanche-Olsen In github: chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/41598126#41598126 there are also the static versions

@CarLaTeX But without the music it is much less fun (it is interesting how music changes the perception of movements).
@HaraldHanche-Olsen It is not sooo large. The file has 17.5MB.

@UlrikeFischer Of course, but it's an emergency situation :)

@CarLaTeX The the static versions aren't so small either, both overview files have around 7MB (mostly the background of the french ducks ;-)).

@UlrikeFischer Oh. Smaller than the git repo, then! I am in the middle of cloning it – it seems to be about 60 MB in total! I may have to buy more bandwidth, but it isn't that expensive, so long as I buy a big chunk at once.
@UlrikeFischer Er, no, only 37.8 MB. I misread the git clone status messages.

4:12 PM
@HaraldHanche-Olsen But the git clone will not contain the video. Only the files to create the base pdf.

@UlrikeFischer Indeed. But now I got the video file too. I even managed to guess the password, clever me!

@HaraldHanche-Olsen There is now even an open version. See the starred link from Paulo on the right. The password was only for the surprise for samcarter.

@UlrikeFischer, @CarLaTeX: I think a repo cleanup is needed, as to only keep the TeX sources and some images.
Support images, like background and other assets.

@PauloCereda we could remove the output and keep only the code and the input images

@PauloCereda I will look at my folder at the weekend or later this evening.

4:26 PM
@UlrikeFischer Yes, but I don't want to try streaming video with my current connection. But no problem, I got the download. Only reason I haven't seen it yet is my mother phoned.

@PauloCereda I cleaned up ...

4:47 PM
@UlrikeFischer Watched it now. Wow! “David orders pizza” is even better with music.

@UlrikeFischer thank you. :)

5:42 PM
@PauloCereda With your ducksaur (tex.stackexchange.com/a/391184/36296) you are at the cutting edge of science: sciencemag.org/news/2017/12/…

@samcarter yay

6:45 PM
I have a text file of protein sequences open in Chrome. Which offered to translate the page from Swedish.
@egreg ^^ :D

yo'
@PauloCereda and @JosephWright (as a chemist)

@yo' ooh true

@PauloCereda Proteins are very popular in Sweden.

7:05 PM
@DavidCarlisle ^^^

7:20 PM
@CarLaTeX :D
@CarLaTeX This has a very Trumpish quality to it. "I've tweeted it. Now it's official." ;)

7:38 PM
@AlanMunn I'm not signed on Twitter, it's a FB message of the Corriere della Sera (one of the main newspapers in Italy)

8:11 PM
@CarLaTeX Yes, I know, but the basic idea is the same. :)

8:26 PM
@CarLaTeX "fake news"

@DavidCarlisle LOL

8:40 PM
@CarLaTeX -- and that is not a picture of a pineapple pizza. in fact, it's a very pretty traditional one i think -- cheese, fresh tomato and basil. makes me hungry just looking at it.

@barbarabeeton You're right, I think the yellow things are pepperoni

David orders pizza
2

@CarLaTeX -- well, i'd be just as happy without pepperoni, but maybe an ancbhovy or two, and perhaps some sliced black olives. (i hope i'm not being too unorthodox.)

@barbarabeeton hmm anchovies

@barbarabeeton all topped with some slices of ham and pineapple chunks

8:46 PM
@PauloCereda -- maybe more common for gulls than for ducks.

@barbarabeeton Black olives are approved

@barbarabeeton oh :)

@DavidCarlisle -- hmmmmph.
if you insist on pineapple, then you should at least combine it with spam to be truly hawaiian.

@DavidCarlisle Ham is not a strange pizza topping: buonissimo.org/lericette/5873_Pizza_al_prosciutto_cotto

@barbarabeeton spam spam spam spam … spam! Lovely spam! Lovely spam!

8:58 PM
@CarLaTeX See! You're halfway there already.
In all this discussion about pineapple, we've forgotten that there are much worse things that could go on a pizza. Like broccoli.

@AlanMunn -- actually, i've had broccoli (very small florets) on a "kitchen sink" pizza (which i'm sure would not be approved of by the assembled italian multitudes, even though it was made by the son of sicilian immigrants), and it was quite tasty in that context.

@AlanMunn Indeed, or typical "christmas food"

@AlanMunn Broccoli aren't yummy but they are healthy
@mickep 10 pizzas in one

@CarLaTeX Indeed, something like that. The stuff is what we traditionally eat for christmas (but not on a pizza!)

@CarLaTeX Oh I love broccoli, just as I'm sure you like pineapple, but just not on pizza. :)

9:08 PM
@AlanMunn Yes, pineapple is good as a fruit
@mickep What are the purple things?

@CarLaTeX The one to the left is some beetroot sallad. The one between the sausage and meat balls, I don't know.

@mickep UFO food :):):)

yo'
@mickep it could easily be red onion chutney, but who knows

@yo' Could also be red cabbage (that is a traditional one in this setting)

yo'
@mickep could definitely be!

9:33 PM
@CarLaTeX -- broccoli can be quite tasty cooked in chinese fashion with a bit of either garlic or ginger (but not both at once).
@CarLaTeX -- the "kitchen sinl" pizza had even more on it; the most obvious was strips of red bell pepper, also olives and mushrooms (both sliced) and slivers of red onion. quite colorful when it was all put together.

@barbarabeeton I think Italians are not accostumed to such an amount of different ingredients on pizzas :):):)

yo'
@JosephWright The more I work with TikZ, the more need I feel for a "pgf+fp"

@yo' I'm working on it ...

@CarLaTeX As I said, there are far more egregious (or should that be @egregious) pizza sins than pineapple. :)
2

yo'
@JosephWright I know. Please consider this a word of thanks for any effort in that direction!

9:46 PM
@CarLaTeX -- that's probably a u.s. adaptation. but, as i said, tony (the fellow who made the pizza i described) was the son of immigrants from sicily, and worked in his parents' pizza shop until he got married and moved away. he made really good pizza, and we were sorry when he went away.

@AlanMunn ;)
@barbarabeeton I think it's a bit US oriented but the ingredients seems good :)
