@JosephWright luatex is actually same as pdftex here but my base tlg are against etex, i'm wondering about switching to use pdftex as base format (in amsmath and other non-base settings) unless you think we can lose that linebreak? I can use \END instead of \end{document} then the test finishes earlier but sometimes it's then harder to check typeset output by eye as the document doesn't finish off properly....
@JosephWright trouble is that makes luatex more like the base but xelatex less so (no map file again:-) not sure I'll play around a bit with it (but currently almost all my amsmath tests fail on at least one engine:-)
@UlrikeFischer I was just going to ask if there was a way to preload a map file (I'm sure you must have read a manual or something to know these things....:-)
@DavidCarlisle Well I have only one gold tag badge but I got this one for good reasons ... the whole things about map loading is described in the pdftex manual (and the use of modifiers like + and =).
@JosephWright well we can probably put something to test2e.tex/regression-test.tex to force pre loading common map files?
@JosephWright alternatively keep testing with etex and xetex and for lua it's probably possible to use a callback for the log writing so it doesn't log map files...
for testing: anyone know how to disable font substitution from dvips or similar? I'm trying to help someone that has issues with missing embedded fonts. I apparently does not have the issue on my system
@DavidCarlisle I'll test after work (and see if it allows some simplification in the Lua code) - of course we end up assuming pdftex.map is available, but that is testable and probably nowadays to-be expected

@DavidCarlisle I wanted to have a check that the file actually exists: in an isolated test system one never knows (although reading the pdfTeX manual it's the default so almost always will)
@DavidCarlisle It's part of the loading of regression-test itself, so has to come before \START

@JosephWright I don't know how say it, but the file compiles flawlessly in case graphicx is loaded as \usepackage{graphicx}. However, when I want to suppress the figures by setting \usepackage[draft]{graphicx}, I got an error of clash. I don't know if my reply is what you need or not.
@JosephWright I haven't asked a question yet, but applying a draft option of \documentclass saved me tentatively. If I asked this question, I would be happy to consider it.

@DiaaAbidou scrlayer-scrpage. Good package, but i find the rulers a bit disturbing. You can turn that of. I think it is the final option for the package, not sure. The documentation will say it.

@PauloCereda I am sorry for asking too much today, but after installing arara from TeXlive manager, it fails to compile the file and gives me this error: "C:\texlive\2016\bin\win32\runscript.tlu:679: command failed with exit code 1: java.exe -jar c:\texlive\2016\texmf-dist\scripts\arara\arara.jar ThesisLuaLaTeX"
However, when I used arara.exe file I downloaded from github, it worked smoothly. Any suggestions for this problem?
@DiaaAbidou I can help. :) Sadly, I can only blame some sort of path problem, as you have one instance that fails and one that works. :) How does arara from TL behave if you invoke it without any files?
@PauloCereda ops, it is my bad. It seems that setting some directory options for lualatex made evil consequences. I ran plain lualatex/biber without setting options, and they worked nicely. Sorry for my confusion and disturbing you.
