@yo' -- we're all rooting for you! good luck.

@WillRobertson er this worked until fontspec updated...

3:10 AM
@DavidCarlisle oh dear, yes, thank you much
@DavidCarlisle TBH I think this should go into unicode-math instead!

4 hours later…
7:03 AM
Hmm, update fontspec straight away or wait 24 hours in case any more bugs are reported…?

@WillRobertson Quite a big issue for unicode-math users so I guess it has to be fixed
Or you can let @DavidCarlisle get lots of rep for
\directlua{fontspec = fontspec or {} fontspec.sprint = tex.sprint}

@JosephWright Yeah, good point. I'll send through an update now… poor Petra!

@WillRobertson You should add some CI tests ... ;-)

@JosephWright Funny you should mention it. My test suite obviously isn't comprehensive enough! I've finally started adding some proper l3build tests (but it was coverage that was the problem). Do you think CI is worth it at this level? (Do you have it for siunitx?)

7:18 AM
@WillRobertson I've started on CI for siunitx but only at the mo for the v3 development stuff. As you say, coverage is an issue: it's probably not worth it in reality

Hmmm... what on earth is happening here?

@WillRobertson CI isn't that worthwhile for a single developer with few pull requests and a clear release approach
@WillRobertson Have I messed up in some way in l3build?

@JosephWright I don't know—I'd be just as inclined to blame luatex :)

@WillRobertson or David. :)

On XeTeX that tlg looks like:

7:38 AM
@WillRobertson So fontspec no more activates Ligatures=TeX by default?

@egreg It should do… perhaps the .cfg got lost in my new l3build script? damn

@WillRobertson Just updated: it doesn't. :(

@egreg no problem; I'm updating for another problem as well :)
@egreg If you need a fix the old cfg file is:
\defaultfontfeatures
 [\rmfamily,\sffamily]
 {Ligatures=TeX}

\defaultfontfeatures
 [\ttfamily]
 {WordSpace={1,0,0},
  PunctuationSpace=WordSpace}

@WillRobertson Here's what I get:
> less `kpsewhich fontspec.cfg`
Missing filename ("less --help" for help)

@egreg Yeah, I can confirm I forgot the .cfg file, sorry

7:41 AM
@WillRobertson No need to add it on GitHub, I guess.
@WillRobertson I updated this morning and tried on a large document, thinking “what bug will I find in the new fontspec“? ;-)

@egreg It's already on github, just missing from the zip file. Thanks for testing!!

@WillRobertson :)

@JosephWright that was a better plan:-)
@WillRobertson morning!

@DavidCarlisle good morning :)
I've just discovered texio.write_nl — putting the \n at the beginning is only useful if everything is doing it!

@WillRobertson sorry about that, I should probably have spotted that sprint before (I spotted it from a version installed from my fork, but just after tlmgr had put the same thing in the main tree:-)

7:52 AM
@DavidCarlisle no worries, egreg has already spotted another correction for me :)

@WillRobertson so I see. Just blame l3build then people will know it's all @JosephWright's fault.

@DavidCarlisle I think it's more ltluatex's fault :)
@DavidCarlisle But a minor issue at this point. Would be nice to fix up though

@WillRobertson must admit I didn't look exactly when it happens, it was just a small unrelated MWE about Greek of this site last night

@JosephWright Do you mind clearing the comments on that answer? Thanks tex.stackexchange.com/questions/192870/…

8:17 AM
Would anyone like to re-test fontspec from github or do you trust me to have now fixed all the problems? :)

8:53 AM
@WillRobertson well I could give it a quick spin..
@WillRobertson oh some test files:-)
Ah I get Tests failed, zip stage skipped! but by the look of it just related to changes for luatex.def support for luatex 0.87

@DavidCarlisle Just rebuilding my XeTeX formats ...
@WillRobertson Looks OK here
@WillRobertson A few test failures but all spurious (possibly l3build version differences)

@WillRobertson failing document from last night runs OK (still trying to pass your test suite:-)

@DavidCarlisle \XeTeXcharclass6=16384 working here :-)

@JosephWright white space in xetex tests and assorted luatex v87 changes for luatex?

9:05 AM
This is XeTeX, Version 3.14159265-2.6-0.99993 (TeX Live 2016/W32TeX/dev)
This is LuaTeX, Version beta-0.88.0 (TeX Live 2016/W32TeX/dev)
@DavidCarlisle Yes, that's how it looks here: as I say, I suspect in part it's l3build version differences (as I had to alter the whitespace treatment)

@JosephWright not sure having more classes and 300 million class boundaries to specify is really that good a change :(

@DavidCarlisle Indeed

@JosephWright don't know whether it's polite to say that on the xetex list since the feature was requested and implemented...

@DavidCarlisle As I think I've said already, there's an issue with the entire idea of each char having to be in a single class (doesn't overlap well with the realities)
@DavidCarlisle Possibly not

@JosephWright I may try to rephrase something more constructive, but I think it's probably worth flagging something.

9:10 AM
@DavidCarlisle 'There are still conceptual issues ...'?
@DavidCarlisle Classifying everything 'because you can' doesn't work, really, hence the changes in the XeTeX data loading

1 hour later…
10:41 AM
@DavidCarlisle Come come, it's only 268 million boundaries :)
@JosephWright Who has been proposing that each char could feasibly be assigned a separate intercharclass?
@JosephWright I guess I should re-enable mail from the xetex list :)
@DavidCarlisle @JosephWright — thanks much for the fontspec testing, again! Have a user querying a closed bug and if they okay it I'll update shortly.

10:55 AM
@WillRobertson I got bold and regular times lt and times ten lt from here (free for personal use, it said...) and I can confirm that your Heros example works, but this does not font2s.com/search.html?q=times+ten+lt

11:30 AM
Did they change the author colors oO

@Rico link color I'll say

@RomainPicot oh ok

Q: About The Latex Companion Second Edition

facenianI need to learn Latex and I want to Know whether The Latex Companion 2nd Ed. by Goossens et. al. is still up to date since it was written more than 10 years ago

I am not sure, this question doesn't seem to suit the format.
@StefanKottwitz "avoiding Kottwitz's rigid and pedantic expository structure and his many digressions on the historical development of the software." amazon review
"My holy grail of a LaTeX guide, one that could teach a total beginner how to create a long text document with multilingual text (e.g., English, French and Japanese), footnotes/endnotes/references, some simple formulas, and basic font and layout manipulations all within a 2-hour tutorial, has yet to be realized."

@Johannes_B BUY THAT BOOK NOW
2

@DavidCarlisle Ah great, so not my fault exactly but something I need to fix :) Will check it out. Thanks again for your attention on this.

12:24 PM
@Johannes_B I wonder if the reviewer has ever run a LaTeX course ...
@Johannes_B The structure is of course that chosen by the publisher :-)

@JosephWright I was chatting with one of the attendees of the november course who i told to read Latex for complete novices. "I don't understand this, it is english. There aren't enough explanations." Five minute later he stated: "I just want a short and compact guide that tells me everything"
@DavidCarlisle Maybe the ebook, every single book of TLC clears an acre of rain forest ;-)

12:37 PM
@Johannes_B I don't have the Grätzer book: I'll get a copy

@JosephWright i don't have it either. The TLC question brought me to that book.

@Johannes_B Someone borrowed my copy of LaTeX for Complete Novices: I haven't had it back :-(

@JosephWright It is available as a free pdf. I wouldn't have given my copy away ;-)

@Johannes_B I didn't give it away, I lent it to someone!

@JosephWright Lost in translation. That is what i meant.

12:54 PM
fontspec 2.5a now uploaded. Let the next wave of bugs roll in!
2
@DavidCarlisle Oh man waiting to download fonts from this font2s site is interminable.

1:13 PM
@Johannes_B Mumble, my local bookseller says 'it's not on our system' :-(
I hate it when I have to buy a book online because I can't get it in the shop (OK, I can get it from Heffers but I'm not sure when I'm next in Cambridge)

1:43 PM
@JosephWright I didn t know this is possible. THinking back, every book could be ordered to catch the next day (except the book is sold out). But then, amazon became popular and i went to a local store only to browse myself through the books (mostly to assess the quality of a book, amazon reviews always review the content of a book. Who the heck is interested in the content in an amazon review?).

@Johannes_B Real bookshops need to buy from a wholesaler: the bookshop on campus is the biggest national chain in the UK, but they don't have it. Luckily, a proper academic bookshop (Heffers/Blackwells) does: I've ordered online as I'd have to go to Cambridge/Oxford/London to go into their shops.
Thank you for choosing to order with Blackwell's Online. We can confirm we have
received your order.

You have ordered:

Qty	ISBN/Title	Estimated

	*Grand total*					*£19.21*

@JosephWright :-)

@WillRobertson yes sorry meant to say it was annoying I just got 4 but a minute wait for each:(

@DavidCarlisle no problem at all :) these edge cases are always tricky to resolve — highlight some deep assumptions in the code that aren't always easy to correct without tearing some things out

1:59 PM
@WillRobertson by the way did you look at the greek example that showed up that sprint bug? the actual question relates to "other discussions" the OP wanted sans serig Greek with accents but most of the sans fonts I had (apart from Arial and Source Sans Pro) drop the accented letters makes one wonder how hard it would be to put the accented letters back.....

Of course, this is a classic example of the "get better fonts" philosophy. Why should my code be clever enough to know what to do when you feed it four fonts in a family, of which only one doesn't have small caps? :)
@DavidCarlisle Oh, I didn't actually look at the output after it compiled without error :)
@DavidCarlisle I had to switch fonts, and Lucida Grande on Mac seemed to typeset it okay (unless the source itself doesn't render properly on a Mac either)
?

@WillRobertson try Heros:
\documentclass[english]{article}

\renewcommand{\familydefault}{\sfdefault}
\usepackage{fontspec}
\usepackage{polyglossia}
\usepackage{unicode-math}
\setmainfont{TeX Gyre Pagella}

\setsansfont{texgyreheros-regular.otf}
%\setsansfont{Arial}
%\setsansfont{Source Sans Pro}
%\setsansfont{Lucida Sans Unicode}

\begin{document}

Greek Περὶ οὐρανοῦ
\end{document}

yuck :)

@WillRobertson looks good but Grande presumably is grander than Lucida Sans unicode, which I tried:-)

@DavidCarlisle Yeah it is (was?) Apple's everything-font

2:03 PM
@WillRobertson which is more or less the role of Arial on windows

@DavidCarlisle You mean Arial Unicode? Or is it just Arial nowadays?

@WillRobertson Arial seems to work

But back to the question — without making characters active, you can't do much at all with "ῦ", right?
(I need a way to show literal unicode strings -- I'm just assuming it's precomposed)

@WillRobertson I think in luatex you could essentially construct an on-the-fly virtual font with the constructed accents, in theory, would probably mess up hyphenation though

@DavidCarlisle Right, that sounds plausible. I haven't looked into any of that stuff really because, you know, time.

2:07 PM
@DavidCarlisle Indeed: my concern with this entire plan

@WillRobertson paste Περὶ οὐρανοῦ into w3c.github.io/xml-entities/unicode-names.html :-)
@JosephWright yes but since hyphenation is also a lua callback it doesn't have to fall over constructed letters..... (perhaps)

@DavidCarlisle Thanks :) does the job

@DavidCarlisle Hmm

@JosephWright what else have you got to do in the evenings?

@DavidCarlisle You'd still need to know the 'original' letter, I guess, as the construct might be difficult to unpick
@DavidCarlisle Probably some attribute-based thing is doable

2:26 PM
@JosephWright I see you are getting sucked in already

@DavidCarlisle As it doesn't help with XeTeX, not really
@DavidCarlisle I'll work on other stuff while I wait for comments on the 'format mode hacks' questions :-)

@JosephWright that's going to be a fact of life that some things may be hacked in lua, that without lua can't be hacked.

@DavidCarlisle Yes, certainly

2:45 PM
@JosephWright @WillRobertson actually I think it's simpler than that you don't need a virtual font you can poke virtual characters into the existing font:
When LuaTEX encounters a commands field inside a character when it becomes time to typeset the character, it will interpret the commands, just like for a true virtual character. In this case, if you have created no fonts' array, then the default (and only) base' font is taken to be the current font itself. In practice, this means that you can create virtual duplicates of existing characters which is useful if you want to create composite characters.

@DavidCarlisle interesting

Q: Why does no one fix eqnarray?

Born2SmileIt seems to me that everyone agrees that no one should use the latex built-in eqnarray environment. So much so that packages have been made to fix it, and several alternatives have been made, ie. align from amsmath, just to name one. But seeing as everyone agrees the latex built-in eqnarray envi...

If you have a gun that always overshoots to the right and you know that, you will still get your target. If somebody fixes your gun and it works perfectly now, you will not get your target anymore, or with a lot of redoing stuff. In other words, old documents would not be the same. — Johannes_B 50 secs ago
@Johannes_B really nice comment :-)

@RomainPicot Couldn't think of a better example.

@Johannes_B could be an answer I think ;-)

2:56 PM
@RomainPicot No. I leave that to the more experience users.

@Johannes_B Well @DavidCarlisle have explain it in detail ;-)

@Johannes_B I'd made an answer before I saw your comment, If you want to answer I'll delete:-)

@DavidCarlisle Nah, keep it. Good one, upvoted.

3:19 PM
@barbarabeeton ^^^^^^ Somebody helped me in getting every page of the wikibook on the watchlist (you can't simply say i wanna see all changes for that book). I was surprised, there really is quite a bit of action

3:34 PM
Ok, Spam :-( Most of it.

3:58 PM
New TeXworks :-)

@Johannes_B Not Spam. A user is translating stuff to other languages and adds links (needed some time to figure that out).
@JosephWright Cool

@egreg hard to remember what the thing is called: I never use it:-)

@JosephWright Looking at that page and the languages it is available, i think that explains the raise in questions from Serbia :-)
@DavidCarlisle eqalign? wondered about that :-)

@Johannes_B you could have said! (egreg just edited the answer:-)

@DavidCarlisle By the time i had finished the answer i had forgotten about it. :-)
@DavidCarlisle Google translate from the serbian wikibook: *Asking for help is not NESO therefore should not be shy, just first have completed little work yourself to make it easy for patrons. How to do that?
Prepare the appropriate minimum work that produces your problem that will give patrons perfekntu basis to deal with your problem. If you do not know how to prepare this case (known as the MWE), follow the example above.
When you become more experienced, you will be able to own problems to solve. :-)

4:08 PM
@Johannes_B seems reasonable advice (I'm sure any minor errors in the English are due to poor initial text rather than any fault in translation)

@DavidCarlisle Is the initial text the original english that was translated by a human (i guess) to serbian, or is the initial the serbian that was translated by google?

@Johannes_B whichever meaning does not mean that I should give up my faith in the total accuracy of google translate.

@DavidCarlisle :-)
Which nationality is @Zarko? Maybe he is translating the stuff.

4:24 PM
@DavidCarlisle I realized it!

Does anybody know how i can lure a certain wikibook user into this chat room? Or some freaking mailing list. I don't want to create a user page for him just to say
"Hi, wanna step aside for a minute. We want to have a short chat with you. We have some plans. Don't worry, we just want to have a friendly talk." ;-)

@DavidCarlisle But the name was in the question title.

@egreg :-D

4:41 PM
@egreg that's a bit advanced for me

4:58 PM
@StefanKottwitz Have a look at the midle part :-) de.wikibooks.org/wiki/LaTeX-Kompendium:_Fehlerbehebung
Super-dooper-ping activated: @Zarko

@Johannes_B, hello! I manage to find this chat room. Thank you to ping me. My native language is Slovene.

@Zarko It is nice when a plan works out :-)

@Johannes_B now you have got him here you have to explain why the main subjects of conversation in the room are ducks and cricket

@Zarko Hm, slovene. That means you are indeed not the guy who edits the serbian wikibook: sr.wikibooks.org/wiki/LaTeX/…

Yes, it is! Regarding wikibook, I need first to collect some more information about it. Otherwise in Slovene language exist "No so short introduction ..."

5:05 PM
@DavidCarlisle Ducks and cricket. Isn't it obvious? ;-)

I fluetly spoke Croatian and Serb language to (even Cyrillic) .
Sorry, still speak ... :-)

@Zarko Wow. You have a short time you can edit your last post. Just hit the arrow-up button on your keyboard ;-)
@Zarko If you hover over a message with your mouse, you will see a little triangle box on the left. Clicking on it will provide a reply to this message thingy which sometimes helps to keep track of what post is answered in a chat.

@Johannes_B, thank you for info. I need to learn how this stuff work here. And what is about "duck" and "cricket"?
@Johannes_B like this? I'm not sure if I doing correct .-(

@Zarko perfect :-)
@Zarko Constant topic in this room. Along with other stuff, like ehm liver? No. Ducks and cricket.
:-)

Q: lualatex with package unicode-math does not work after texlive update

Georg GrafendorferAfter the recent TeX Live update (tlmgr update --all), LuaLaTeX together with unicode-math does not work any more! Here is a minimal example: \documentclass{article} \usepackage{unicode-math} \begin{document} Hallo Welt! \end{document} I guess it's because of fontspec, which was updated. He...

@WillRobertson, @DavidCarlisle ^^^

5:15 PM
@JosephWright you decided not to steal @WillRobertson's rep by making an answer?

@Johannes_B ok. I'm glad to manage this. Regarding liver ... I don't like it anymore, ones I poisoned with it.

@Zarko Did you ate that of a polar bear?

No, this was beef, unfortunately contain Salmonella ... Now I had to leave chat for while, my wife need me :-)

@Zarko Ok, have a good time :-)

@JosephWright æquivalent in a question title is disturbing. ;-)

5:21 PM
@egreg Yes, it's wrong, but I want to see what happens about my comment before mod action
@DavidCarlisle Following the requirements for luaotfload through is 'fun'

@JosephWright you could just load all the lua parts anyway?

@DavidCarlisle Yes, that's the easy position but there's quite a bit of it!

@JosephWright if they linked to harfbuzz instead you wouldn't pick and choose though.

@DavidCarlisle If you don't bother to set LUAINPUTS=. then there's no big issue
@DavidCarlisle Would be ideal (one for a mail for later today!)

@JosephWright yes but what I mean is that it's also bigger than you'd need just to load latin modern at 10pt

5:25 PM
@DavidCarlisle Also true: I have a feeling we had a question about a minimal loader and it came in rather 'lighter' than luaotfload: can't pin it down ATM

@JosephWright I'd like to try hb but couldn't understand the build enough to build it here.
@JosephWright ltuatex q just posted but no code and I'm driving home for next half hour or so...

@DavidCarlisle Yes, it will be that one where they've not got the patch level format again

@JosephWright that would be my guess. It would be good to get a reproducible example of that: I never understood exactly what was going wrong as far as I recall.

hello people

5:31 PM
@MichaelMitchell Hi

hhh
My university uses this pastebin.com/rJxJhCaE for bibliography while I have used to \usepackage{biblatex} and \printbibliography. When I try to use biber with the template wiki.aalto.fi/display/Aaltothesis/…, it fires many errs (apparently the template importing many packages not favored by biber), can someone help to find the packages intercepting biber?

@MichaelMitchell Welcome to the Dark Side

im having a silly problem where my refs can't find my labels in the same .tex file :(
ive seen some suggestions that rerunning could help, but how do you rerun :/

@topskip Ages ago there was some discussion somewhere (here, LuaTeX list, ...?) about font loaders in LuaTeX, and one much smaller and lighter than luaotfload was suggested (of course limited to western European glyphs). I have a feeling your were involved in some way: do you remember where it was?
@MichaelMitchell latex, latex

putting my stuff into sharelatex makes the labels and refs work, but not on my own systems pdflatex compile thingy

5:39 PM
@MichaelMitchell Run pdflatex twice on your document ;-)

just do pdflatex ... & pdflatex ... ?

A LaTeX template is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're gonna get.

@MichaelMitchell Yes! Running it once is one compilation ;-) pdflatex foo ; pdflatex foo
@Johannes_B Chocolate is more delicious than any template

this has solved the problem, thanks!

@MichaelMitchell: Don't worry. It's all a-days-work for a bicycle-repair-man LaTeX user ;-)
@RomainPicot: How about nominating yourself for the TUG membership competition? There's some time left to do so

5:48 PM
@hhh The template not only uses bibitem and sets up the whole bibliography by hand, it also uses eqnarray, which also is ... not good.

@ChristianHupfer Alreay asked by yo' but I've join already ;-)

hhh
@Johannes_B I uncommented the natbib so getting it compiled but I am getting now "Cannot find control file 'thesis-example.tex.bcf'! - did you pass the "backend=biber"" (yes I did so diagnosing the biber thing)
Good points :)

@RomainPicot Mais non ... c'est trés malheureux/euse (choose the right one ;-))

@ChristianHupfer très malheureux ;-)

@RomainPicot: Damn, I was sure about trés :D

5:51 PM
@ChristianHupfer french accent :-)
always fun

@hhh you are calling biber thesis-example.tex leave out the file ending

@RomainPicot: What kind of language is French!!!! Effectively three kinds of accents ... bad design :-P

@ChristianHupfer é è ê ë it's four no? ;-)

@RomainPicot Ah, I forgot the \ddot{e} thingy :-P

@ChristianHupfer not so frequent so forgivable :-)

5:54 PM
@RomainPicot d'accord!

hhh
@Johannes_B Dxmn you have good memory! Common err with me, wuola :)
Got it working :)
(the old traditional method with biber ;)
Thank you for your help.

@hhh Good memory? Why? The error indicated that.

It took me at least minute to realise it :)

Does there exist a way to specify everything else in smaller font in tabular except title?

Q: Different sizes of font available in table?

ngramskyI have a table and it appears I only have two options when it comes to font size: large and small. There should be a medium option, correct? I get an error when I replace small or large with medium. The beginning of my table looks like this: \begin{table*}[ht] {\small \hfill{} \small \begi...

<--- related to this one but now on rows, not columns.
Found it :}

Q: Different font sizes for different rows

chatcjaI want to put different sizes of fonts (smaller) into different rows of my LaTeX table. I found that it is possible to have different font sizes for different columns of this post. Is there any simple way to put different fonts to LaTeX table rows ?

@hhh \small \begin{tabular} then \large\bfseries hello for the title

hhh
6:56 PM
@DavidCarlisle there are many titles i.e. \begin{tabular}{ l l l }

<--- that thing only increases the size of one title in a column, not all columns within a row.

@hhh shrug. Even if you had 20 columns you only need to paste it in 20 times, which is less keystrokes than asking how to avoid doing that:-)

@JosephWright admin + user thing in tex.stackexchange.com/a/108490/2388

@UlrikeFischer Thanks

I love simplicity, thank you!

@hhh This seems to be more like a quick hack than a solution for many.
I posted a screenshot today that showed 25 twitter followers. Apparently one of them did not enjoy my rants and un-followed :-)

7:38 PM
@JosephWright Can you reopen tex.stackexchange.com/q/270485/2693 ? It's not strictly speaking a Mac problem, since the likely source of the problem is an old /usr/texbin path added by a prior TeX Live installation. I'll add an answer explaining that plus @Mico 's more local solution.

1 hour later…
9:02 PM
anyone around with a recent luaotfload? what do you get for
\documentclass{article}

\renewcommand{\familydefault}{\sfdefault}
\usepackage{fontspec}

\setmainfont{TeX Gyre Pagella}

\setsansfont{texgyreheros-regular.otf}

\begin{document}
\directlua{
for k,v in font.each() do
end
}

Greek Περὶ οὐρανοῦ
\end{document}
@JosephWright ^^
r: ...xmf-dist/tex/luatex/luaotfload/fontloader-2016-01-22.lua:6795: attempt to perform arithmetic on local 'factor' (a nil value)
.
hmmmm

@DavidCarlisle Yup
Voting is open

@JosephWright if i don't look at the font table I get no error but if I have iterated over it i do, even if I do exactly nothing inside the loop?

yo'
@michal.h21 Please, really consider nominating yourself for the TUG membership, I think you deserve it!

9:19 PM
@yo' @michal.h21 Yes, please do.

@michal.h21 I agree!

yo'
@michal.h21 ^^ see, you've already got 3 people supporting you! :) and I think you'll especially find TUGboat really interesting ;)

9:53 PM
@touhami: How about applying for the TUG membership competition? It's still possible!

@ChristianHupfer Hi, thank you for this but I am really far.

10:10 PM
@touhami Far from what?

@yo' OK, I am little bit tired now, I will try to post something, but I think I will need spll corections :)

@UlrikeFischer Ah, another 'feature'
@AlanMunn Need a linguist: aren't the cases mentioned in tex.stackexchange.com/questions/290634/… just wrong, not 'obsolete'?

10:27 PM
gotta ask, anybody able to give sensible feedback to

Q: How declare a new package language

Marko LustroI need writing normal text and some sentences in artifical conscript language. How writing small as possible package and how use it (include?) in file? My language have my own font and each glyphs is defined as one or more chars. K->K u->ó sh[number] -> x or x1 or x2 ... etc for example: S...

@UlrikeFischer thanks (I think:-)
@JosephWright they both showed up with google although I didn't recognise either

@DavidCarlisle Doesn't mean they are right: certainly in classical Latin the ligature is wrong but people still do it ...
@DavidCarlisle I see CTAN decided to go for latex-graphics

@JosephWright this has some quotations from the 1500s but spelling then doesn't really correspond to english as used now so no argument that its wrong now en.wiktionary.org/wiki/pr%C3%A6fer

@Johannes_B: How was the sale event of cakes? ;-)

@DavidCarlisle :-)

10:36 PM
@ChristianHupfer quite good :-)

@DavidCarlisle I don't think that it is helpful but it shows that the problem is not new;-). It would be rellay useful to have a number of examples for "official" interfaces. Currently so many things are trial and error and it is unclear if they will still work next week.

@Johannes_B Sandkuchen? ;-)

@ChristianHupfer experiment failed :-(

@UlrikeFischer :-)

@UlrikeFischer :sad but true

10:40 PM
@Johannes_B Revealing a small secret: Sandkuchen does not consist of ... sand :-P But tastes like it :D

@JosephWright Ok do you know what the preferred zip would be now latex-graphics.zip unpackaing to graphics.zip or???

@ChristianHupfer ;-) I know that. Cherries too wet.

@Johannes_B Cherries from the jar?

@yo' done

A: TUG Membership: Names for 2016

michal.h21Yo', Egreg and Johannes B insisted to nominate myself. I am active on TeX.sx for five years, originally to find some help for my first LaTeX package biblatex-iso690, I was hooked since then. I happened to create some packages which are included on CTAN, most notably tex4ebook for TeX to ebook co...

@ChristianHupfer sí

10:47 PM
@Johannes_B Im Sieb abtropfen lassen?

@ChristianHupfer Jaa

@Johannes_B Eine halbe Stunde?

@ChristianHupfer Thats about right.
@ChristianHupfer Kein Holzstäbchen um das ganze zu testen :-(

@Johannes_B Messer geht auch ;-)

@ChristianHupfer no
:-p

11:31 PM
@yo' -- i hope you've had a good celebration. well done!

@JosephWright Well they're obsolete to the extent that they were previously spelled that way, but the earlier you go back the more variability in the spelling there is in English, so it's easy to find almost any spelling you like. Because of that, I would agree they are really incorrect in that they don't reflect the current spelling of any modern variety of English.
@JosephWright Unfortunately we are on shaky ground here given the meta discussion we had about @barbarabeeton 's lower case... (No offence to you, barbara, and but it makes it hard for us to argue the simple argument that we don't tolerate personal idiosyncrasies in spelling.) I think we have some potential for troll-like behaviour from this user, so my suspicion is that we should just let him go away quietly.
@JosephWright @barbarabeeton I'm not saying an argument can't be made, just that it will have to be a "yes, but case insensitivity isn't the same as misspelling", so a bit harder to make.

@yo' Doctor. Finally you can make shitty jokes like the following eh?
This is a one line proof...if we start sufficiently far to the left.
Congrats!

@JosephWright Also, it's not clear that he's actually using the æ in a(n) historically accurate way, since at least for "prædilection" no such spelling is noted in the OED. For some of the others, the æ spelling occurred but rarely. Most of the æ spellings arose in the 17th c. during the English grammarians love affair with Latin.
@yo' Congratulations!
@JosephWright Is it allowed to downvote questions for incorrigible spelling? (pun intended)

11:48 PM
@AlanMunn Since when do we care about correctness? :P

@percusse :) Is that an admonishment?
@percusse We cöüld äll write like metäl bänds.

@AlanMunn With only one word, a linguist can make someone sore in the head ... :(

@percusse Ah, but since I know you googled it, now I'm giving you reinforcing practice. :P

@yo': Congrats, Tom! <3 <3 <3 <3

@AlanMunn Feels like the PE class all over again

11:53 PM
@percusse But without the awkward showers.

@AlanMunn Hi Alan, have you heard I am using forest to derive a school of fish? :)

@PauloCereda No I have not heard of this.

@AlanMunn ooh hold the phone

@PauloCereda Is Psmith still alive and beeping?

11:57 PM
@percusse I can bring him, hold on. :)

@PauloCereda Damn! This guy became a full fledged PhD

@percusse Nah, Tom is the fresh PhD now. :)

@PauloCereda Psmith, the TeX bot: Good night! I'm Psmith, the friendly TeX bot - the p in my name is silent, as in pshrimp. I'm here as a companion to our fellow users in the typographic land. As you probably noticed, I always reply under Paulo's account, but do not despair, I say, my replies are always preceded by my own name. Enjoy your stay at TeX.sx! If you need any help, just ask our chat residents. Cheerio!

@PauloCereda Why isn't the root 'eightfish' ?

!!/battle

@egreg Psmith, the TeX bot: The current score is egreg 275 vs. 230 David. So far, egreg is winning.

Of course...

@AlanMunn Good question. :)

@PauloCereda Just in time!
