I have a dilemma: should I include the TUGboat article and TUG talk in my CV I send for a PostDoc?
@yo' yes
yo'
yo'
@StrongBad Should I take your 45k rep at AC.SE as a good reason why to trust your opinion? :-)
I tried using the onlyamsmath package, but it screws up some of my custom macros for extracting revision control keywords. Do I modify my macros or scrap using the package?
@StrongBad The latter
@yo' No, SE rep is meaningless. You should include it because it demonstrates you do interesting and respected things outside your research.

@StrongBad ok, thanks
@egreg that is what I thought. I have never used the package before, but someone said I should be. As I try and only use the AMS environments, I didn't see an issue.
@StrongBad Exactly.
@yo' you should ask over at AC.SE, I bet it will get upvotes.
yo'
yo'
@StrongBad well, the deadline is in <5 hours, I'm just making final corrections and discovered I could include this
@egreg Is making $ active really the best/only way to "destroy" the $$ environments?
@yo' Does this mean you are getting close to finishing your PhD?
yo'
yo'
18:14
@StrongBad 17 days, if you consider that "close" :-)
@yo' so you almost have a complete first draft :)
yo'
yo'
@StrongBad of the thesis you mean? No, it's almost printed in 30 copies.
I almost have the beamer slides. I mean, they are in my head you know...
@StrongBad yes (probably:-)
@Alenanno Lacey Tumblewed would have a problem with my suggested approach when dealing with longtable :-)
yo'
yo'
@StrongBad You can use \everydisplay to check whether you're inside a dedicated environment when the display starts, but it's not at all reliable.

@Johannes_B Ahah lol :D
@Johannes_B ?
@Johannes_B ah
@JosephWright tex.stackexchange.com/questions/287655/… package update, should be closed i think.
@Johannes_B Done
18:25
@JosephWright Merci :-)
@Johannes_B -- when i first got involved with the tex project at stanford, i was given a user name "bb" for use @sail. now, the fact that "bb" also meant "bulletin board" at that time never occurred to anyone. but it sure resulted in a lot of very peculiar e-mail.
@barbarabeeton :-)
yo'
yo'
@barbarabeeton I was more confused by getting a mail from bnb. I'm not anymore used to people having 2- or 3-letter usernames :)
@yo' -- so how do you explain your moniker here, "yo'"?
yo'
yo'
@barbarabeeton That's a good question, I don't know actually :) But to my defence, I don't use that as an email name...
@StrongBad And one last thing please: if one applies online (uploading PDF files into a web form), would you include a signature on the cover letter?
18:44
@yo' We just had a question at AC.SE about signatures on letters of reference. I probably would include a signature, but I do not think it matters. I wouldn't go so far as to digitally sign it, just a scanned image of your signature.
yo'
yo'
@StrongBad ok, so the same as what I thought of. However, if someone clicks in the PDF file, they'll know that it's not a scanned PDF file, but that's probably fine :-)
@yo' Some European universities and the US government sometimes get touchy about the legality of signatures. In all those cases, they have been very clear about what painful hoops they wanted me to jump through. I wouldn't worry about it.
yo'
yo'
@StrongBad once I get all my PhD diplomas and stuff at home I can tell you something about this :)
Any suggestions?

@Alenanno remove space between StackExchange
so you plan to post this on some other sites? :) If so, maybe this community should agree on how to present itself outside ...

@yo' This one goes to Math

A: E-Scroll for University Graduates: Any problem?

StrongBadBefore getting to the answer, I want to recount a related story. As an undergraduate due to some bureaucratic issues I attended graduation even though I wasn't graduating. I should have been handed an empty diploma tube, but they screwed up. A week later I received a desperate phone call from the...

@yo' what about...
It feels empty. But I feel that if I add too much, it will look ugly.
@yo' that was supposed to be directed at you

@Alenanno TeX is unnecessarily huge in this one
@StrongBad yeah I got it. Well, I don't want to many any troubles now :)

@DavidCarlisle thanks, I sais.
@yo' Ooh, when does it start?
@yo' If you get it ...
yo'
yo'
@JosephWright if I get it, it starts 1st October
@egreg Please, you would make empty verso pages completely empty (i.e., even without a page number), right?
19:40
@StrongBad -- i love the comment on another answer about complaints that the text was in latin. guess i'd have a hard time ...
@barbarabeeton every once in a while we get a PhD application where we need to get the transcript translated. Usually we have someone in the department who can make out the names of the courses and grades.
@yo' Not the reception I was hoping for lol. The font does suck, but I can't use xelatex.

user89Topic: writing a modern TeX to HTML "converter". Main question (too broad for single question on main website): how should it be done? Meta question: should it be done? Q: Code licensing proposal — Point of order!

200_successThere have been two rounds of discussion about code licensing: The MIT License – Clarity on Using Code on Stack Overflow and Stack Exchange A New Code License: The MIT, this time with Attribution Required In my opinion (and with the benefit of hindsight), both rounds have been suboptimal ways...
