pdflatex is amazingly fast in TexLive 2013. I have 100 pages pdf file, full of equations and it builds it in less than 1 seconds. This includes all the display scrolling on the monitor, and I am using a virtual machine with Linux on it as well.

While tex4ht takes, for the same file, about 15 minutes to convert to HTML. But tex4ht has to go through so much more!
Special offer! The TUG and UK-TUG discount codes will also work on my children's books until 20th December 2013. (After that date, those codes will only work on my LaTeX books.)

In my humble opinion, the biggest mistake users make is: trying to make TeX behave just like Word. :)
Deal with it. I'll get my coat.

I'm trying to replicate the following plot with PGFPlots:
In this answer, the author plays with opacity when drawing overlapping ellipses. Is it possible to use similar code with arbitrary curves?
Ideally, the confidence intervals should be specified for every abscissa.
Do you have any hint ...
Since there is only one TeX server in Australia, I am thinking to initiate negotiations with my institution to host a TeX repository on the website of University.
First of all, please give me some hints/clues on how should I convince the university for this. In the other words, what is the adva...
@PauloCereda Actually I think my copy of the Oxford Style Manual is a bit dated. It says that ISBNs have 10 digits. That just shows the drawback of my method (heaving a heavy book off the shelf) verses @DavidCarlisle's method (using the awesome powers of the Internet).
@PauloCereda LOL :-) Yes, I don't like them as well. It's always difficult finding a decent shot where I don't look like I'm manic or squinting (or wearing a silly hat).
@PauloCereda I have a bad memory, so I simply register a domain and set up a small webserver for serving me the feed, such as tikz.net or pstricks.net - sorry I used German feeds there :-)
oh...wow..this works! I want to create a second account just to vote you twice! Seriously thank you for sticking with me through this!! — Hamy2 mins ago
@egreg, @DavidCarlisle: Am still stuck with tex.stackexchange.com/questions/134597/…. Any suggestions on how to debug the issue. For instance, how can I see what the save_size used is for a particular run? If I can figure out what increases it, then I might be able to fix the problem.
@DavidCarlisle: Ahh... Ok... Also, what do I need to do AFTER editing the texmf.cnf file in an attempt to increase it. I don't think that will worth for me, but worth a try..
@PeterGrill as far as I know you don't need to do anything the change to .cnf should have immediate effect (you should see the out of.. number in that log message change
I think I only edited the "/usr/local/texlive/2013/texmf.cnf" file instead of "/usr/local/texlive/2013/texmf-dist/web2c/texmf.cnf" as I thought that was what was the correct one to edit, but will try editing the main one as per your answer.
@PeterGrill Never touch the main texmf.cnf; changing the setting in the top level one is what's needed, because /usr/local/texlive/2013/texmf.cnf is read first and already set value are not changed by files read in later.
@DavidCarlisle The "/usr/local/texlive/2013/texmf-dist/web2c/texmf.cnf" has "save_size = 100000", but the run's still crap out at 80000
@egreg So, which is the correct one to edit: "/usr/local/texlive/2013/texmf.cnf", or "/usr/local/texlive/2013/texmf-dist/web2c/texmf.cnf". I thought the first one was the correct one to edit.
@egreg Ok, so after editing it, do I need to run "sudo texhash" or "sudo fmtutil-sys --all", or is there something else that needs to run. is there a \show\save_size that I can see that it is set to within TeX
@PeterGrill When changing save_size it's the b part that's increased: I set it to 20000 and lo, I get 37i,11n,35p,2952b,221s stack positions out of 5000i,500n,10000p,200000b,80000s
@DavidCarlisle: I have "save_size = 500000" in the /usr/local/texlive/2013/texmf.cnf file and the b part still says 200000b, so don't think it works. But, I think increasing it would only be a temporary solution. I really need to figure out why it is happening.
