@UlrikeFischer i added some plausible \hyphenation and ran the whole thing and nothing happened... [english]{babel} later in the file....
I think I will just remove that makes no sense to force UK hyphenation on ASV

@DavidCarlisle acrobat took its time to understand the structure. In the first page of genesis the columns are not balanced ...

@UlrikeFischer also this time books (\chapter) have long names with optional short (in all cases) can we make the short ones appear in the pdf bookmarks outline (I'd do it but I'm scared of the tagging:)

@DavidCarlisle the long text goes also in the toc, must be some memoir speciality. I will look tomorrow ...

@enkorvaks Thank you! That is very good information.

@DavidCarlisle what do we want for the table of contents? The long or the short version?

@UlrikeFischer long I think, I was just looking on internet archive to see if there is a scan of the original but I only see digitised new printings, I'm sure I saw one somewhere before, bu go with long, I think

@DavidCarlisle this here could work (but only tested on a short example): \AddToHookWithArguments{cmd/chapter/before}{\def\ch@pt@c{\texorpdfstring{#3}{#2}}}

@DavidCarlisle What book? (dodos are curious...)

@UlrikeFischer ok thanks, I'll add I'm just adjusting th enotes at the front a bit more

@DavidCarlisle the pdf is not in the gitignore?

9:06 AM
@UlrikeFischer no, nor .aux etc, i just do commit -a usually so it never adds stuff that's not in already
@mickep I'll give you a clue, Frst chapter is Genesis, last is Revalation, and when it was written there were more dodos around.

@DavidCarlisle Oh, that one
It contains too few formulas for my taste.

@mickep "latex is not just for math"

9:26 AM
@DavidCarlisle Oh indeed, nobody said so.

@UlrikeFischer secret tagged pdf images on skype

@UlrikeFischer This time it's not me upvoting your pdf form answers but that definitely happened in the past :-)
@mickep But there's a lot of numbers. Every other sentence or so...

@campa That is indeed true.

9:50 AM
@DavidCarlisle answered ...

@campa which makes for a lot of structured tags if testing tagged pdf tools...

10:11 AM
@UlrikeFischer You only need to add stuff to the .gitignore if you're irritated by the list of untracked/changed files in git status, as long as you don't really care about that untracked files don't really do any harm.

@Skillmon and if you don't want to see those use git status -uno to make them go away

10:39 AM
@Skillmon well not if you sometimes use -A to add files, you can end up with a lot of crap if the gitignore doesn't keep it away ;-)

@UlrikeFischer use -a not -A :-)

raf
Is this question should be in TeX SE? askubuntu.com/q/1507954/947071

@raf well it could have been asked here but not sure anyone here can help much especially as it says already reported to the miktex issue tracker

11:07 AM
@DavidCarlisle we germans are used to capital letters ...

@UlrikeFischer you are probably upset that gitcommit-A-mblub doesn't work

11:55 AM
Hi! Is there any ways to get [Bahri-Lions] instead of [1] while citing a paper? I tried this: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/675746/…. But it's not working.
I am getting this: (author?) [1]
I'm getting this error- Package natbib Warning: Author undefined for citation`MR0709644' on page 1 on input line 295.
I copied directly from mathscinet.

12:47 PM
@PNDas yes just choose an author-date bibliograhy style rather than a numeric one
@PNDas that means you have an error in the reference or you have not run bibtex to generate the bibliography

1:13 PM
@UlrikeFischer what David says, user error :P

1:35 PM
Okay, I think I found the problem. Since there are two authors, I have to use \citet*.
But for some reason. I'm getting Brezis und Nirenberg.
What is und? I don't know where is und coming from.

@PNDas Do you use a German bibliography style? ("und" is "and" in German)

> Bibliography style files intended for texts in german. They draw up bibliographies in accordance with the german DIN 1505, parts 2 and 3.

What should I use then?
I liked this style.

@PNDas Easy solution: learn German and write the rest of the document in German and the "und" will blend right in :P

@PNDas If you like the [Name year] format, maybe something like apalike?

1:46 PM
@samcarter It's good but now the list is not numbered in my reference page.

@PNDas If you show your citations as [author year] in the text, I don't see how a numbered bibliography would be useful.

@samcarter Just to count the number of citations. :)
It's okay. I'll work with apalike.

2:09 PM
@DavidCarlisle texlive.net/…

Is there any styles which shorten the author names in only the text?

@PabloGonzálezL works for me

2:28 PM
@DavidCarlisle Must be a problem with my current connection, it was saying "Time out, error 147" :(

@PabloGonzálezL try now it should work
@PabloGonzálezL you were first one to try xetex since switched to 2024 and it was running fc-cache which times out. I am super important and not subject to time limits so the font cache built for me:-)

@samcarter Everybody should talk in German! e_e (to mis-quote @DavidCarlisle)

@JasperHabicht Was ist mit diesem wichtigen Plan?
Jan 24, 2015 at 16:35, by David Carlisle
@JosephWright new plan: everyone speak English.

@JasperHabicht öhh (to mis-quote @PauloCereda)

@DavidCarlisle everything would become much easier and Ulrike could freely use capital letters in commands (and ß)!

7 hours later…
@CarLaTeX good to know these things

@DavidCarlisle I was sure you would appreciate it

@CarLaTeX lorrywithlargeboomwithspongeontheendforcleaningroadsigns English has long words too
anyone with an up to date tl2024 may like to try
