Hey

6:09 AM
@manooooh hiya!

9 hours later…
2:40 PM
Here is a question that sounds like a bug in LaTeX: tex.stackexchange.com/q/446976/4736 . An equation in a footnote causes an empty footnote field on the next page. I'm curious, because obviously people have put equations into footnotes forever, so what am I missing?

@boycott.se-yo' 👋

@KeksDose well, having footnotes itself is a bug :-) I mean, the bug is that no warning is shown, not the behaviour itself, because you basically want LaTeX to do something which is impossible.
@KeksDose If you don't mind, I'll report it on the LaTeX team bug tracker...

4:20 PM
Ok, I won't do that, because GitHub does not work with my oldish browser :-(

5:11 PM
@boycott.se-yo' -- why don't we just alert @DavidCarlisle?

@boycott.se-yo' really? I am surprised

5:28 PM
@DavidCarlisle I can't upload files :(

6:01 PM
Another one of those incredibly helpful LaTeX warnings:
LaTeX Warning: You have requested package `moderncvheadiii', but the package provides `moderncvheadiii'.

@Skillmon Well, since we recently learned that truth isn't truth, why not "moderncvheadiii isn't moderncvheadiii"? ;-)

@marmot truth is no longer truth?

6:38 PM
@Skillmon Didn't you here about the Guliani interview?

@Skillmon I posted an answer about that years ago is it still not fixed?

@marmot apparently not :(
@DavidCarlisle at least not on overleaf's packages (did no local test).

Hi, when I'm using something like this:

Anonymous
\documentclass[aps,twocolumn]{revtex4-1}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\usepackage{graphicx}
\begin{document}

\maketitle

\section{Introduction}
There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.
\footnote{There is another theory which states that this has already happened.}

\begin{figure}[h!]
\centering
\includegraphics[scale=1.7]{universe}

Anonymous
The \footnote appears in the bibliography section

Like this:

@DavidCarlisle just tested and it's not.

Any way to fix this? I want it to appear as a footnote only and not in the bibliography section

@Blue I think you should ask this on the main site.

@Skillmon Okay, done

Q: How to fix: footnotes appearing in the bibliography section?

BlueWhen I use a LaTeX code like this: \documentclass[aps,twocolumn]{revtex4-1} \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc} \usepackage{graphicx} \begin{document} \maketitle \section{Introduction} There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, i...

@Skillmon can't blame latex for this:-) vvvv

A: What does "You have requested package `foo', but the package provides `foo'." mean?

David Carlisleits a bug in the class, looks like a recent change in the github log, can't test here, no tex, but the package name constructed by \expandafter moderncv\romannumeral which doesn't do the right thing \expandafter does nothing there, you can ignore the warning until it's fixed. Lines 315 to 333...

@boycott.se-yo' that's odd (you can not upload .tex files, but .txt should work

8:02 PM
@DavidCarlisle I can blame LaTeX for it. I admit it's not the kernels fault, but I consider classes and packages part of a LaTeX installation.
@marmot Now I know.

8:18 PM
@Skillmon you realise that just anyone can write anything in tex and submit it to ctan and it will be accepted with no checks at all

@DavidCarlisle yes, I know, after all ducksay and duckuments are part of TeXLive and MikTeX :)

@Skillmon I'd ban all duck related material other than recipe cards

@DavidCarlisle duckuments is useful (I admit that blindtext covers all the useful features though).
@DavidCarlisle you could send a pull request to duckuments including the code for a formatted page of a recipe card.

@Skillmon like this?
Aug 4 at 19:29, by David Carlisle
user image

@DavidCarlisle no, more like a content-heavy page including an image, a small ingredients list, and preparation instructions :) Something which we could somehow sell as "useful" for the purpose of duckuments (so as some dummy content).

8:25 PM
@Skillmon ah I thought the purpose was just to annoy @PauloCereda

Lol, I just posted an answer to the complete wrong question. I think I need to sleep.
good night my dear TeX people!

9:14 PM
@Skillmon You could edit the question to fit your answer. ;-)

9:51 PM
@boycott.se-yo' @barbarabeeton I recklessly suggested a ! symbols for this "new user" banner: meta.stackexchange.com/a/314475/237989
