While I'm here, the issue is with \SplitArgument in the xparse. The doc suggests that missing args will be replaced with empty brace groups, but instead a brace group containing -No Value- is used. I think the former is probably intended but I'm not sure.
@jak You can't do that in classic TeX (I don't think you have said whether you are using xetex or luatex rather than (pdf)tex) But really you don't need to why can you not input it in that form with the greek letter?
jak
jak
Do You know lua tex?
@ScottH. Already fixed in SVN: will be updated in the next release
jak
jak
i use xetex and pdflatex but my knowing about tex is not good
@JosephWright Ah, great. Just FMI, was the documentation changed or the code?
20:03
@ScottH. Code
@JosephWright Ok, thanks!
I asked a friend if she was going to read the TeXbook, and she said she will wait until they make a movie of it. /facepalm
jak
jak
where are example of lua tex? simple. I need write a chapter but interline is +2 before line.
or other simple example of lua tex
@jak If you are trying exotic fonts you would be best to stick to either pdflatex or xetex or luatex. the font mechanisms in all three are completely different. For common font setup the user level interface is the same but the underlying mechanisms are different and for the kind of things you claim you want to do you need to be at the lowest level. (It still isn't clear to me why you need to do that though)
jak
jak
@David Carlisle ok show me example of using ttf (indifferent to what the program)
20:07
@PauloCereda Take her to watch this, then she'll have to read the book
Tex is a 1982 drama film directed by Tim Hunter and written by Charles S. Haas based on the novel of the same name by S. E. Hinton. Matt Dillon and Jim Metzler play brothers who struggle after their mother dies and their father walks out on them. Plot A coming-of-age adventure about two brothers (Matt Dillon and Jim Metzler) struggling to make it on their own when their mother dies and their father leaves them in their Oklahoma home. Cast *Matt Dillon as Tex McCormick *Jim Metzler as Mason McCormick *Meg Tilly as Jamie Collins *Bill McKinney as Pop McCormick *Frances Lee McCain as Mrs. ...
@jak sorry I don't understand.
@DavidCarlisle ooh! :)
jak
jak
@DavidCarlisle show me example what i can set up my new letter in any of program pdflatex, lualatex or xetex
simple I have font utf-8 ą=latin a + cedila etc...
@jak That isn't how tex works, you'd need a new font, and as I said before I have never needed to create a new font (I don't think you do either to be honest, but if you want to do that that's fine but you should be in a font forum not a tex one) (I really can't help you with that)
jak
jak
where is font forum?
with tex, with font of tex
@jak anywhere where they ask about font creation rather that about TeX:-)
jak
jak
20:12
where i can found people who can help me match font in tex or my own font
ok, But do You know thats people?
(meybe in Polish language?)
@jak Not really, sorry.
jak
jak
Does anyone know someone who creates fonts for TeX or otf using fontforge?
ok
@jak are all the letters that you need in Unicode, and if so can't you use xetex and an existing Unicode font, which would be far easier than setting up a new one.
jak
jak
please send me e-mail if You found thats people ;-)
I make my own ttf ;-)
but my ttf is not good, not have first letter in word, does not include various alternative versions of the same letters etc.
@jak OK if you have a ttf (that you made) and asked a specific question say "how do I load a custom ttf font into xetex?" someone on site would probably be able to answer. Your existing question asked about setting up a language in Tex and to Tex that is all about hyphenation and not about fonts at all so got the wrong people and wrong answers.
jak
jak
20:21
custom load ttf ?
that is, load the fonts and then rearrange them?

Q: bookmarks: diacritics, umlauts and special characters

ClintEastwoodWhy are the bookmarks in my pdf documents (created by LuaLaTeX) not correct? E.g., I get Faḫr al-DÄ«n al-RĆzÄ« instead of Faḫr al-Dīn al-Rāzī. In general diacritics, umlauts and special characters are not correctly displayed -- in none of my documents. I use (almost without any options): hy...

Or should we post an answer?
@topskip It seems too localized to me, since it's not really clear what the OP tried to begin with. That is, where did they first try \hypersetup{...}? It seems fairly basic that \hypersetup should follow \usepackage{hyperref}.

@Speravir Hope that's clearer now on the tikzmark question. In case you don't get the notification of my last comment, I've added the links and am now deleting the comments to neaten up.
@Speravir And just to be absolutely clear: you were right to comment and the questions most definitely should be linked.
@AndrewStacey Yepp, got the notification and deleted my comments. Unfortunately I already had upvoted. ;-)
@Speravir Darn. You foiled my plan to garner extra reputation. I'm currently running at about 300 me (milli-egregs).

@AndrewStacey :-)
@AndrewStacey I'd prefer
\renewcommand\tikzmark[2][]{%
  \ifnum\catcode`\;=\active
    \expandafter\@firstoftwo
  \else
    \expandafter\@secondoftwo
  \fi
  \tikzmark@active\tikzmark@nonactive{#1}{#2}}
One more closing vote needed: How I can add my own language (I said it already several times: The review system is broken. This one is days old.)
@AndrewStacey Not that it makes a big fdifference. But you don't define \@next
And this is even older, 3 closing votes needed: Texstudio structure view test failed!
OK, thanks to @JosephWright. Only one closing needed. ;-)
21:16
@egreg Good idea. Thanks.
Hey guys, just out of curiosity, should the Introduction of a book be in \frontmatter or should it be in \mainmatter?
@gekkostate Think of frontmatter as the pages with initial roman numerals and other weird stuff before you actually start numbering and using the regular format for the rest. So intro if a standalone chapter would be a mainmatter
@percusse But would it be against standard convention to have the intro in mainmatter while having roman numerals?
@gekkostate Standard convention is to give ToC, LoF etc. foreword acknowledgements etc. as frontmatter and then starting with an introduction to the main matter
@percusse Okay, thanks!
21:33
Hey guys, another quick question. What is the use of \sloppy?
Comic sans example posted in honour of @egreg.
@DavidCarlisle LOL
@DavidCarlisle This warrants a downvote.
@egreg David has Word skills!
@PauloCereda You don't know how long it took me to type that in Word, and even then it didn't come out anything like I'd hoped:(
21:41
@PauloCereda That was just M-x emulate-rubbish
Actually the command is named differently, but I changed it because I never mention that program's name, as you know.
@PauloCereda also I blame you for corrupting @cmhughes
@DavidCarlisle What did I do?
@DavidCarlisle I didn't downvote the answer, actually: Mozart's clarinet concerto put my in a good mood.
@PauloCereda The comment on my answer has your hallmark all over it:-)
21:46
@PauloCereda see a real master at work
@DavidCarlisle ooh! It was not me! :)
@DavidCarlisle I just clicked the WordArt stuff. :)

Q: How to practice LaTeX?

gekkostateWith many programming languages, you have the opportunity of practicing the language by doing problems or developing programs that will do certain things. With LaTeX, however, you can't exactly do that because it is a typesetting language and therefore, requires some sort of material to be practi...

Can I answer it? "You don't practice LaTeX! You "for realsies" LaTeX!"
Another English question: What is the common way to say that we remind the reader to remember this point as we will refer to it later?
I don't want to sound like a textbook or add another This will be important later type of clause.
I now have We will return to this issue in the later sections
22:09
@percusse What about "We'll get back to this on later sections" ?
@percusse We shall refer to this point later
!!/battle
@percusse "Please bear in mind this information, as it will be discussed on later sections"
**further discussed
@MarioS.E. @egreg Thanks! I've tried to use passive voice via this issue will be addressed in detail....
22:27
@egreg 275 each:-)
!!/battle
I'm sorry, what's that !!/battle thing?
@Werner PSmith is AWOL (again) but see the line above.
@MarioS.E. I'll see if we can demonstrate....
@PauloCereda WAKE UP THE BOT!!!!
@DavidCarlisle I don't know why, but the first thing that came to my mind was "Release the Kraken"
@MarioS.E. Just a joke between two senior^H^H^H^H^H^H chat residents
22:30
@MarioS.E. It's an undisclosed Psmith TeX bot function...
...it outputs the current daily reputation "battle" between @egreg and @DavidCarlisle. You know, the attention-grabbers of TeX.SE...
@Werner hahahahahaa, ok, now it makes sense!
David Carlisle update: 644 to go 100K
@Werner says @Werner who's got a higher rep than me....
@egreg wow @egreg can do subtraction!
@DavidCarlisle What would be interesting is a graph showing the reputation-grab over time... you would be much higher than me in the recent months... errr, year!
@DavidCarlisle So it's for Thursday, probably. I'll be on tour, I believe: National Holiday.
@egreg How many candles do we put on the DC-Cake?
@Werner 1000 :-)
@DavidCarlisle My trend has been far more consistent over time... you've been "a slacker" until recently. :)
@DavidCarlisle 1000 makes for a big cake.. Have to use some \tikzmark in the placement of those... :-|
@Werner Far too straight, more interesting to have a bend in the middle:-)
@DavidCarlisle And by the way, this is soon to be changed if one considers your current trend in rep-grab-per-day...
@DavidCarlisle All jokes aside, it's invaluable the contributions that you and other high-rollers make. My tenure here has been short in the TeX world...
22:48
!!/battle
@PauloCereda Psmith, the TeX bot: The current score is egreg 275 vs. 275 David. So far, nobody is winning today.
OMG!
It looks like a tennis match. :)
Hi Paulo
I've got a quick question for you :)
@Xavier Hi Xavier! Sure, go ahead! :)
leo
leo
hello!
Referring to this answer: tex.stackexchange.com/a/70286/10102
Is the code used to produce the symbols (apparently yours) completely free?
As in, can I include it in a package?
leo
leo
does someone here use miktex?
23:00
@Xavier I think so. :) I generated them from a .svg source. :)
GitHub seems to have updated their logos, so mine might be outdated.
Well, I hope Github and Linkedin won't complain about trademarks and design copyright :)
@leo Not I. ;-)
leo
leo
@egreg :-)
not even Windows I guess
@PauloCereda Also, any chance you explain me how I could similarly generate tikz code for a Twitter logo?
@leo What's that?
23:03
@leo Sorry, not here either
@leo not me:-)
@Xavier Sure! :) There's a Inkscape plugin called code.google.com/p/inkscape2tikz :)
If you can find a Twitter logo in .svg, open it in Inkscape and export it to TikZ. :)
@PauloCereda Hmm, nice :)
leo
leo
@egreg I thought you use Linux...
@leo That would be me...
23:08
@leo Rarely.
Nevermind the geeks. They are trying to cover up the inability to control a mouse with precision.
:P
@PauloCereda Thx! Off to a new release :)
@leo I'm a happy Mac user since 1985
@Xavier My pleasure! Just let me know if you need any help. :)
leo
leo
well, the thing is that according to my miktex update wizard, all the mirrors have version April-15
just wanted to confirm
leo
leo
and of course, it says that there is no current updates available
@Xavier Cool!
@leo Mirrors don't immeadiately sync themselves with CTAN. So it takes a while to get the updates.
@PauloCereda stupid q due to my ignorance: i was wondering why lua was not chosen for arara instead of java ?
leo
leo
@egreg Cool! One of my friends owns a Mac Book Pro, he let me use it once, I asked how to uninstall a program... it was so easy,
you just drop it to the trash!
23:18
@leo :)
@DavidCarlisle our current generation are spoilt brat due to luxury of choices and computing freedom :)
leo
leo
@percusse I see. I had TeXLive. I switch to MiKTeX because I had problems in TeXLive related to biber and biblatex. And because this is an old machine with 55GB HD only
I use it for TeX related stuff mostly
@egreg just realized that the Klein 4 group is the union of three other subgroups of A_4 :-)
@leo For the impatient updater, every 2 weeks is a nice frequency to check updates.
@leo Some years ago I decided to buy a FireWire PCI card for my Mac G4; when the card arrived, I told my brother-in-law, who is a Windoze guy, to see the complicated installation. I switched off the machine, pulled open the side panel, unscrewed the protection for the slot, screwed in the card, closed the panel, switched on the machine and connected a FireWire drive. No driver downloading, disk insertion, nothing at all: it just worked.
@leo It's small, but full of features. :)
leo
leo
@percusse I see. I check almost every week.
23:24
@egreg how to update texlive during a frozen state ?
@texenthusiast You don't.
@egreg you mean we should pretest 2013 ?
How come I love answering questions here but cannot concentrate to draw a Riemann Sphere rotation for the last 3 hours?
@texenthusiast I'm trying it. The best is to wait.
@Speravir Well, I'm actually a 'he'... ;)
23:27
@egreg ok thanks a lot :)
@Silex The awkward silence...... :P
@PauloCereda Thanks, but no apologies necessary ;)
leo
leo
@egreg That's so cool. I hope to buy one at some point. And forget Windows because in any case with the new versions you must get used to a new operative system
@percusse :P
leo
leo
so far, the most Apple thing I have is an old iPad
23:29
@Silex Very, very big oops! And excuse me, please! So, you are not Silke Hofstra or … ? See @PauloCereda, you were right!
leo
leo
:-)
@Speravir I am Silke Hofstra, it's just that Silke can also be a boys name in the Netherlands. (Though I must admit it's quite rare. About 97% of the Silkes are girls :S)
leo
leo
it happens something similar to me in the math.chat but the other way around. It is a Charlie there, who I thought was a he. That day I've said that nobody understand girls and things like that. After she leaves, I knew she was actually a she...
@Speravir We have a thorough security clearance system installed here. :)
@Silex This is mean! ;-) In Germany Silke can be only a girl’s name, I thought until now, but perhaps in Eastern and Northern Frisia there are boys with this name, too …
@percusse What? :-)
23:43
@DavidCarlisle @PauloCereda can't take too much of the blame- I've been a vim user for quite a while :)
Don't worry about it :P. I live quite close to the German border, so this happens to me all the time. The only time I thought it was really annoying was when I was at a German airport and they though my passport had to be fake because there was no way I could be named Silke.
As far as I know only the boys name is a true Germanic name, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's used for boys in places where they speak Frisian.
But anyway, I've got to go. More about all this confusion tomorrow!
@Silex Bye.
@percusse Perhaps you find this interesting:
@Speravir Haha indeed great :)
