good job ^^

8 hours later…
09:00
@Edlothiad Nope, though she does draw a lot
@Kepotx We have a couple of other examples of Springs/Autumns and most are only a year long
i still have no access to wiki for whatever reason
but as i see it, some events like red sprinf occur in spring, but tha does not mean that spring is only one year
Okay doke, if someone hasn't answered before I get chance I might write something yp
same for the great spring sickness
if you have some evidence, i would be glad to read your answer
I haven't looked into it beyond the page on wiki yet but sure
There's only 3 of known length though
Each lasting a yearish like the 299AC - 300AC autumn
also i remember one page (probably wiki) where there are some calculation of date between chapters
could be a good bases to get the length of the autumn
09:16
Probably there's age/birth calculations of the characters, timeline of the major events, known seasons etc
There's a page for each year though most aren't filled out
So now I have 2 answers to write up and no time :P
I might be able to make some time this morning ;P
same, im more active this days because boring lessons, but today's lesspn is interesting :)
Hahaha
I'm sort of between tasks at work so I can stall a bit if I want
No one is at work, lazy day for meeeee
@TheLethalCarrot vv
Not surprised
And awesome lucky you
JAD
JAD
what quote?
09:25
That article I linked yesterday
Apparently she said S8 would air in April 2019
Wow those newest leaks from /u/gettingbetsywetsy are terrible, it just mumbles some crap and then says "sorry I'm tired"
Hahaha haven't looked
Like I said got bored of the crap
@TheLethalCarrot I don't know if they'll ship here
Probably not saw it last night thought you'd like it
That ebay page is great cos it's a charities one
Get lots of weird and wonderful things on there
Yeah, thanks a lot. I've actually been staying away from purchasing them cuz I'm running low on pounds, but still nice
Although it's a 5th impression, which isn't that valuable, and a tenner seems a lot if it weren't a charity
09:29
Ah right I wasn't sure what they were worth
I got the copies of HoME that I have from oxfam, unfortunate thing is I'm missing random ones that others had bought :( although it was 2 quid each as opposed to 20
Well they're probably sellable for about a tenner per book, but I don't value them very highly, they're quite pretty though.
Ah nice and yeah I hate when they sell sets seperatly
They have some LOTR goblets on there at the moment and they're clearly a set but they're selling them individually
They are horrible though :P
I don't really purchase merchandise, I have no use for it, I just like the look of books
Although again I've slowed down because I'm poor and already have 4 different LotR copies :/
Hahaha
I have a Star Wars collection but nothing else
Abbey Road LP for 11GBP, that's insane!
09:35
Is that one good price?
I think it is but I dunno
I'd assume so, an OG LP that crap could sell for a lot, especially with it's album sleeve
Aye I suppose
Just gotta get the right person looking for it
There's lots of things that are going for way more than they should do or a lot less than you'd think. I guess it just depends on who sees it and has the money
@Edlothiad Exhibit A
Yeah exactly, ebay is a strange place. I nearly bought a Silmarillion 1st ed 1st print for 30GBP (pretty cheap) when I saw one come up for 2.50GBP, with a 1st ed 1st print UT and Letters, total postage was about 3GBP so for a tenner I got 3 1st eds 1st prints, instead of 1 for 30
Was v happy
I'll try and keep it on topic now lol
09:43
Haha you just love your books
@TheLethalCarrot Of memorabilia? I'd consider getting some Star Wars things if I had a house
I just want my parents to build their bloody library already so I can fill it...
I'd love a library but you need a big house haha
Just have a whole corner dedicated to High Fantasy, speaking of which, I should probably get ASOIAF 1st printings while they're cheap none of that crap with HBO printed on the front
@Edlothiad Yeah some old stuff, some new disney crap and a few other things
And I have my Longclaw too :P
Ah yes ofc. I, moving countries every 2-3 years, can't carry that much "junk" around :(
09:44
@Edlothiad I had a quick look last night theyr're still quite a lot
Lol
Ye like GBP 20 or something aren't they?
As opposed to like 50000
Not the ones I saw but they might have been different editions
The page I linked has this ASoS
@Edlothiad Not bad if you have one of those lygin around haha
@TheLethalCarrot I have no idea how much it's actually worth though haha
It's hard to tell if they're 1st ed 1st print without the opening page to check and confirm it.
09:51
Aye
Yeah those were the prices I was seeing haha
Ruh roh... Maybe not then...
You must be able to get AFFC and ADWD for reasonable amounts
Oh no Shaggy!
09:56
Yeah you're only really paying for the first 3 at the momrnt
Buy now sell for 50000 in 50 years...: ebay.co.uk/itm/…
Probably the best 1st collection set for a reasonable price: ebay.co.uk/itm/…
Yeah just gotta hope it's still popular in 50 years haha
I told you about my win/lose with steam game items didn't I?
These are still nice: ebay.co.uk/itm/…
@TheLethalCarrot No?
Is it worth shelling out GBP 500 for AGOT, ACOK and ASOS first eds now and saving money in the long run?
well, lot of person do speculation about seald videogames
@Edlothiad I bought in game items for PUBG for £50 each knowing they'd get popular and then sold them for £100-£150. After which the price started dropping so I thought I'd won. They now sell for £200-£600 last I looked :(
10:00
pretty sure that somes do the same for books, buying just to sell it some years after
Oh ya, and we discussed how it was still a win
Still a win but now where near what it could have been
Use the money to buy first eds for 500 gbp
better, we gather all our money to by ALL first eds, so the price go ups much faster and much higher
10:02
Hoard them all yeah :P
Paha...
I wonder if it's on-topic to ask what the original printings of each book look like, it's proving difficult to find
You could get all the first editions for around 500GBP
maybe it woud be better-suited to ak it on litterature SE
> Behind-the-scenes and fandom information
I suppose it'd be on topic but it'd probably attract some CVs/DVs
10:11
Lol
So the UK First Edition is the hardback with the Jim Burns cover released in 1996, US First Edition is the one with the silver foil cove
I'm guessing the UK 1st ed is probably cheaper
And all the US First eds have the silver foil cover?
They're ugly
No idea that's just what one westeros user said haha
ACOK 1st ed 2nd print $250, ye... no
lol
I think these ones are UK first editions, at least that cover anyway perhaps not those exact books
And this is the US one
Ye I think these are the 5 UK ones: ebay.co.uk/itm/…
10:16
Yeah
@TheLethalCarrot I believer that's correct
@Edlothiad although you could probably get them individually for about 600GBP the slip cases add to the books
I should become an edition expert for books and make a load of money haha
"make a load of money" how do you propose that?
buy low sell high :P
Ah in that sense, you'd have to predict which books hit cult status etc...
10:22
Oh yeah I know
Actually scroll to the end here GRRM tells us what the 1st editions were
@Kepotx I was writing an answer up for you but I can't actually find any information on the start/end dates :/
Might be worth snapping up a UK first ed for 250GBP then, and just see if it gets any higher.
If I had the money I would
I mean I have the money, but that's not how I was planning on spending it
even if there is no specific date, some qutes sayng that spring/automn are only one year event and/or some quotes sayng that spring/autumn is shorter than winter/summer would be ok
@Edlothiad Same here most is savings to buy a house
@Kepotx Yeah I might leave some of them as wiki sourced :/
10:40
@TheLethalCarrot BOOOOO
@TheLethalCarrot Meh too young and unsure to plan for that. More like funding for a Masters, beer fund, Rugby tops, etc.
There are a few things I still want to accomplish before I consider myself a true adult...
@Edlothiad I'm booing myself but everything looks correct and the information is fine then you search the books for quotes and turn up nothing
Wait for someone to say they want lunch or just grab a sandwich and come back?
What are you on about? :/
10:44
Food, it's just me and one other guy who I regularly eat with. And he's not getting up for lunch, so I might just go grab a sandwich and come back and eat at my desk
That's what I do when other people are busy or not around
I mean there's only 4/5 of us anyway haha
It'd be a bit of a sad day after eating cereal out of my pocket for breakfast cuz I was late
Hahaha
Hope you didn't put milk on it
milk on a pocket ? yep, it would be a bad idea
No milk, just a ziplock with cereals
Got a ton of dirty looks, especially when I dropped one and picked it up to throw away later.
10:48
Haha it's like when me and my gf take her cousin out people look at us like we just spat in their face cos they assume he's our kid
Should I post this answer or not? I'm mainly just quoting off of the wiki :/
and you cant access to the source of wiki itself ?
It doesn't cite it's sources
gosh
also, do you know ho handle ASearchOfICeANdFire ?
a way to improve it would be to add the world of ice and fire
10:57
I could probably go a long round about way to prove it but it's make the answer massive and would probably just be pointless
Sandwich and free croissant it is
the are lot of canon-source in wiki that quote it
Aye, asearchof does have TWOIAF though
oh, didn't notice it, my bad
10:58
Meh I'm not gonna post it, it's pretty crap
@Kepotx It's there, no?
as you want. maybe some link in comments could be good ?
Post it in here
(I want to read it)
yep, same for me
My answer? I discarded it
11:02
arrrrrrgh
I will link you to the wiki page if you want haha
Spring 209-210
Autumn 230/231
Autumn 299-300
The spring is also when the Great Spring Sickness occurred
never notice that there were two red springs
Year of the red spring and the red spring apparently
Ok steal another croissant
11:18
Well that was a mission
Did you accidentally pick up a dog then realise it wasn't right and picked up a sloth then finally get your croissant?

I want to ask a question about how long could a man survive in sky cells (hypothermia and such). is it more suited in SFF or Worlbuilding with reality-check tag ?
I don't know about wb, but if you're asking with regards to health, it's a science question.
Yeah doubt it'd be a good fit for SFF
yup, i hardly doubt that one could survive really long (even more on rainy days)
JAD
JAD
12:08
@Kepotx don't discount the psychological side
the tilted floors and subsequent lack of sleep
yes, even if my first though is that you don't have time to become mad before beeing killed, but i could be totally wrong, im not a medic
I've watched too many KSP videos, I'm upset these guys are so creative
i mean, you can survive several days without sleeping
kerbal space program ?
Lets just say one would probably through themselves out of the cell before long
@Kepotx exactamundo.
JAD

Hmm, do we have any info on how high the Eyrie is?
dou you mean above the sea level ? or the tower itself above ground ?
@JAD High enough to scream NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPE on the way down.
@JAD It is one Eyrie tall
JAD
JAD
@Kepotx sea level, to get an idea of temperature and climate
JAD
JAD
12:13
@TheLethalCarrot
I'm too lazy to post the quotes
well, its in the same level of braavos, and dont have the same climate at all
the books also talk about sound and coldness of wind
i suppose that the wind have also effect on hypothermia
JAD
JAD
@Kepotx maybe, although with the alcoves it might be you're somewhat shielded
Should I remove the Rock/Skagos sections from my answer or do you think they're fine even though speculative?
well, you make it explicit that it's speculative, seems ok for me
12:20
Aye I started off so confident I was going to get sources for everything and it went downhill, just like your question haha
12:46
Now there's cake! But a crowd of people around it :/
Lucky get
Though we do have Kit Kat's
the cake is a lie...
13:17
3 croissants and a petit slice of cake
Good day for you then
Hell ya! Normally I'm starving at this time...
Haha, I've just eaten so normally I'm fine at this time :P
The day took a good turn from 3h ago:

Don't even think I'll be hungry for dinner
I saw that but I ... oh
Red Wedding :'(
(This joke might be too meta for the newbies)
Oh I get it
Took me a while too
13:29
@TheLethalCarrot  you made the original one...
I didn't have to click through though :)

Vγ˙=L∗cosσ/m−gcosγ+2ω2cbVcosδsinχ+V2cosγ/R+ω2cbRcosδ(cosδcosγ+sinγsinδcosχ)

It's horrible in the formatted form too
13:32
Yep, it's not better paha
13:46
@Edlothiad yup, don't get it

Q: How long could someone survive in "Sky cell" like prison?

KepotxIn the fiction A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones, one high castle in the mountains, the Eyrie, have so called sky cells. Those cells are left open to the cold sky. The eyrie is several thousand feet above the valley below, in a mountainous region. As it's open, the prisoners suffers from w...

14:22
@Edlothiad I don't see what was wrong with my downstar :P
14:40
@TheLethalCarrot I'm more impressed that Ed kept the permalink for it on hand.
@amflare "Kept the permalink for it on hand" Oh my sweet summer child, are you really so naïve?
Knowing you man, I would not be suprised
What does that mean?
I don't even keep copy pasteable comments for 1st posts on hand
I bet you have a ed.wikia somewhere with all your handy little links
@Edlothiad At one point I was under the impression that you kept some sort of master doc of all the important things you found on SFF (mostly meta stuff).
I'm now a little less sure
14:45
@amflare Oh yea, I did, I haven't looked at that or touched it in a while. I just google things now
@TheLethalCarrot Pahah! That's a great Idea. SFF wikia
15:00
Isn't that called meta? :P
Yeah, but not easily organised, policies aren't tagged as such, most recent discussions on matters aren't up to date, etc
I know :)

I like how sometimes you ignore the bait and other times you go all in after it until the hook is so far through your lip you can't talk anymore
15:17
Hahaha
15:49
@Edlothiad Turns out that question you was asking here the other day was already asked
Would ya look at that!
Haha
It's getting hard to have an original thought round here :P
At 1k questions...
Including dupes :P
@TheLethalCarrot Thats exactly what I said
(ba dum tisss)
16:05
Lol
16:17
do we know how high are the sky cells ? the only exact high I have is 600 foot, wich is the fifference between eyrie and the ground, but i would also like to have an aproximative heigh above the sea level

thanks
@Kepotx well the eyrie is on top of a 3.5 mile tall mountain
So I imagine thats a good approximation
@amflare wiki say it's astride giants lance and not on the top of it
it seems that there are several (speculative and contradictive) answers...
16:26
No, its balanced on the very tippy top.
More seriously though, astride means "on or over" thefreedictionary.com/astride
oh
thank you

> The Eyrie clings to the mountain directly above Sky, and in its cellars are six great winches with long iron chains to draw supplies up from below. If you prefer, my lord of Lannister, I can arrange for you to ride up with the bread and beer and apples."
The winches coming from the cellar might have done that for me
> Someone shoved the bucket hard. It swayed and tipped, scraped against the floor, then swung free. She heard the crack of Mord's whip and the rattle of the chain. They began to descend, by jerks and starts at first, then more smoothly. The Eyrie shrank above them. The sky cells on the lower levels made the castle look something like a honeycomb from below. A honeycomb made of ice, Alayne thought, a castle made of snow. She could hear the wind whistling round the bucket.
nope, it's outside
> The sky cells on the lower levels made the castle look something like a honeycomb from below.
else there was no way to see the sky cells

Q: Is there any non-westerosi in the Night's Watch?

KepotxWhen anwering a recent question about real-life parallels to the Night's Watch, one question spring to my mind: Is there any non-westerosi in the Night's Watch? Are all soldiers from the seven kingdom's, or are there any soldiers from Essos (or other non-westerosi areas)?
