6:04 AM
@TheLethalCarrot Hmm I haven't DV'd but technically there is a difference
Annulment means marriage never happened, making the children bastards
Divorce means marriage did happen but then ended and the Children remain legit

6:53 AM
In Carrot's defence, the top answer made the same assumption that Annulment is ~~ Divorce, but they just fleshed it out a little more I guess.

7:05 AM
> Users who complete the survey will be awarded the Census badge across any SE communities they belong to.
How do I get my Census badge?

7:41 AM
@Edlothiad from what I can see it's just for SO

any SE communities they belong to sounds like I should gee it on ALL my communities!
IT'S A SILVER BADGE AS WELL!!!!!

> Thank you for completing the 2018 Stack Overflow Developer Survey. You will be awarded the Census badge on Stack Overflow.
That's what I got after filling it in

Ye same, but from the post it says across any SE communities they belong to

mhmm, so possibly, one of those is in error
3
Q: In which site the census badge is awarded and why?

Victor StafusaI, like many other people here, received an e-mail link from StackExchange inviting to answer the 2018 Developer Survey, which I responded thoroughly. When I finished it, I 'd been awarded with the Census badge in English Stack Overflow. However, I am much more active in Portuguese Stack Overflo...

Furthermore, the survey is posted on MSO, not MSE
So I assume the all SE sites should be all SO sites

Agreed, the badge doesn't exist on SFF or any other non SO sites I've checked, or MSE

1 hour later…
9:00 AM
@Aegon There is a difference but I don't think the distinction is in scope for the question and seeing as all the other answers, even the accepted, used annulment examples I don't think the OP cared either

9:23 AM
@TheLethalCarrot The OP used Tyrion's first marriage as the test case which was indeed annulment (Which is why you have my UV), So there's that as well
@JarkoDubbeldam I got it just on SO

Ah thanks it's just annoyed me, basically other people putting extra restrictions on the question that the OP

9:45 AM
Has The She-Wolves been published?

9:57 AM
Also what do you guys think of this reading order?
0
A: Reading order of "A Song of Ice and Fire"

TheLethalCarrotIn my answer describing the levels of canon in the series I list all of the published and unpublished works so far. However, for the purpose of the reading order I'll only add the published works as we'll get a better idea of how they fit into the story later on. The answer by @System Down giv...

10:25 AM
@TheLethalCarrot Very tempted to comment with links about all the things you haven't read. You should probably source where you got that information from unless it really is your own.

@TheLethalCarrot Nopes.....Been hearing it's under progress for ages now
I always read wrt Publication order.

So you read the D&E novellas between books?
I just read one series at a time, don't mix and match

@Edlothiad Well I got it from multiple reddit threads but having looked into it myself it makes sesne

@Edlothiad If I'd discovered them back then

Unless that series is HoME, then give up after book 2 and never go back.

10:27 AM
I found them a long time after reading the main books

@TheLethalCarrot Knowing you haven't read them makes the post seem dirty

I remember going back and forth about reading it. To Read or not to Read

@Edlothiad Well I haven't but I know a lot about them without having read them haha

Also @TheLethalCarrot, 37

From answering questions on here I think when I finally get around to finishing them all I'd be knowing what's coming next all the time haha
@Edlothiad ?

10:30 AM
@TheLethalCarrot Bronze - Silver

@Edlothiad Oh right yeah, TLJ did that to me
@JarkoDubbeldam Yeah it's what I have :)

It does. Some illustrations too IIRC

hmm
but hardcover

It does

10:32 AM
@TheLethalCarrot Some of us managed to improve our ratios with TLJ, the signs of a true master

They're quite nice

my other books are paperback
hmmmmm

Mines paperback
@Edlothiad Lol

@JarkoDubbeldam Or, OR! You could get it from *cough* less than legal methods *cough cough*

No get the book it's nice and shiny and it has cookies

10:33 AM
I swear I'll give him some money at some point. If he can deliver all the books he's promised.
@Aegon does your "Excerpt of the day" really change every day?

@Edlothiad It used to in the beginning. Nowadays whenever I recall that its something I have going on

11:06 AM
What's a good way of indicating a cut in text in a quote? I usually use <br>...<br> or something to that effect. Is there a better way?
My latest example is (and shameless answer advertisement):
0
A: Who was Rhaegar, Viserys and Daenerys' mother?

TheLethalCarrotQueen Rhaella Targaryen the sister-wife of King Aerys II Targaryen, The Mad King. Rhaegar Targaryen What became of the dream of dragons was a grievous tragedy born in a moment of joy. In the fateful year 259 AC, the king summoned many of those closest to him to Summerhall, his favorite castl...

@JarkoDubbeldam Oh by the way if you click on an answered link the format is like the following https://scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/33857/who-was-rhaegar-viserys-and-dae‌nerys-mother/178506#178506

In between the individual quotes just add <!— —>
(That’s 2 hyphens)
(@TheLethalCarrot)

Mmmhm that just adds one line break though and looks like the paragraphs follow each other

Que? That always looks clear to me that they’re seperate quotes
Are you talking about the final huge chunk?

Yeah
Where the two paragraphs are from the same chapter but aren't next to each other
So I used the ... on a new line to indicate it but it never feels right
I suppose I could do...
    > text
    source

    <nbsp/>

    > text
    ibid
But I don't really like that too much

I just add the
> text

<!-- -->

> text

11:18 AM
Yeah but that just looks like a new paragraph with no proper gap between them
@TheLethalCarrot I've gone with this but I'm not 100% happy with it

There should be a white space gap betwen

Tried it again and there is, I think I didn't add the additional line breaks the first time
It gives the same effect as <nbsp/> though
Is one of you going through old GoT Q/As?

@TheLethalCarrot Ye maybe, i dunno

A lot of the older questions aren't sourced at all, I might be able to get a lot of answers in

11:33 AM
Probably, don't know what people think of copying the answer and just adding a quote. I'd personally add it to the original answer, but to each their own

Well for the latest example the other answer guessed where Renly was. I researched and found the quote and added the answer, it just so happened the previous one had the correct assumption
Also I suppose it depends on how much work you put in, if it takes 10 seconds to find the source I probably won't add an answer. 5 minutes probably 50/50 and anything over that I'll probably add an answer
Though it depends on the question, my answer and the existing answer too

11:55 AM
@TheLethalCarrot yeah i know :/

Ah well :)

that's gonna be a lot more tricky to fix, since the question name is in the way

Yup makes it awkward

question and answer Ids are mutually exclusive right?

As in a question id can't correspond to a answer id?

12:08 PM
yep
I think so

Not sure to be honest

Theyre in the same table, so i'm getting yes

Probably then yeah

especially since scifi.stackexchange.com/a/91904 resolves to a question

Then yes haha

12:11 PM
hmm
oddly enough, adding the other url to the query returns less results for aegon than first

@JarkoDubbeldam yep

I'm creating a full tag scoreboard calculator, I've got the following so far, is there an easier way to calculate the percentage it's a bit messy at the moment so the total percentage will be horrible

well, you could decide to not cast them, and just take the percentage as integer

I have no idea what you're trying to do but why am I at the bottom?

It's top 10 and ordering by score at the moment
@JarkoDubbeldam Then I'd miss out on percentage cos anything lower than 1 would be 0

Ah fair enough I must have mucked up when I didn't have the cast in haha

well, x / 200 * 100
that's just x / 2
also, instead of explicit casting, / 200.0 also works
and is less wordy
200. even

Ah true, I do like to over complicate things sometimes

this does however still calculate sum and count twice
not sure if that's a big issue

What is score and count percentage and why do so many people have 100

12:27 PM
Towards gold badge

progress to gold badge I'm guessing

That's why no one has count 100

You're only 70% of the way there?
That must mean you have 10 0 score answers in the got tag
rip..

I'm 75% but SEDE is delayed

Oh ya, 0 score doesn't matter we established that
Oh well

12:31 PM
I've almost got it working properly now

cmon @Aegon there's 820 questions you've not answered. You must be able to find 19 without a quote that you can just tag a quote on to...

99 Tolkien's Legendarium, meep

It goes Egg, me, Skooba
Which I think we all knew anyway
What were my odds of winning again? :P

@Edlothiad Plenty of reasons why I can't. Either the existing answers don't leave anything to be added (I guess I could start seeing things as you have witnessed firsthand before, let's keep our fingers crossed), or I just don't have the time and energy to write an answer, there simply isn't a good enough answer.
Or maybe I am just afraid of the finishing line. Once I get the gold, what then? :D

12:39 PM
@Aegon I have no idea what "(I guess I could start seeing things as you have witnessed firsthand before..)" means or where "there simply isn't a good enough answer" is supposed to fit
Now what's Total Percentage?

Score + count percentage / 2
Lazy calculation

What does that even mean?

@Edlothiad Remember the "Was Robert's Rebellion built on a lie?" question? Where I thought you hadn't added an aspect which you had indeed.
append an or before "there simply isn't a good enough answer."

@Aegon Oh the fan fiction answer?

Yup, that one

12:40 PM
Write more fanfiction, 19 fan fiction pieces should be easy

@Edlothiad Well you need 100% in both for gold badge so gold badge means 50% of each

@TheLethalCarrot boooo

It's close enough haha

Yeah but if you hit 200 answers with <1000 score you're bad and you should feel bad.

I don't think anyones gonna hit count before score haha

12:41 PM
@Aegon 100% agree with the "energy to write an answer", I have about 30 starred Tolkien questions I can answer, too lazy

Okay I got 100 and 90.5, what exactly is that? As you can probably guess by the edits I have to make to every message, I am on zombie mode right now. Dumb it down for me

@TheLethalCarrot now's the question, is that the case anywhere?
@Aegon you got 100% of the score required for gold, and 90.5% of the posts

Oh right. Yay me

@JarkoDubbeldam Depends on the site but probably not

Thanks

12:42 PM
You don't need any more updoots, but you need 19 more answers
Hell, they could stay at 0...

it'd mean that you average less than 5 points/answer

@JarkoDubbeldam On SFF, yes.
We love upvotes, you only need to get like 2 HNQ answers and 198 late answers and you'd probably still hit it.

They could even go negative and it wouldn't affect me. Got 3 times the score needed. but 19.......**19**!!
Okay I swear 19 was bold for a second there

Lol, you could get the gold badge in a week if you trawled all the old stuff
@Edlothiad If you'd have joined this year you would have been the top user of the year

12:45 PM
DO IT @AEGON JUST POST RANDOM TRASH!
@TheLethalCarrot I joined July 2016 soooo....

Yeah but not active until 2017

@TheLethalCarrot Also if Bella had joined January she'd have ruined me.
Or beaten me by a few k
I could've beaten DVK, which annoys me. If only I was less lazy

Same as me my account was 2 years old the other week but I only started participating actively in October
Oh yeah if Bella had started earlier she'd have been higher
I was only really active for 3 months last year and I started on like episode 6 of GoT I think so I could have placed higher too (maybe)
Though 22 is pretty good for 3 months

If you ain't first, you're last.

12:51 PM
I have the 38th most badges on the site

And your 40th repwise so that's pretty good

@TheLethalCarrot Similar. Joined in Oct 2015 but actively started participating in Mid May 2016

73rd in Golds, 32nd in Silvers and 46th in Bronzes, 40th in Rep, 7th in Edits and 2nd in Reviews
And 31 away from 1st in FPs
Work time. Adios!

1:30 PM
I hate going to an old question to find that Egg has already answered it haha

1:56 PM
@TheLethalCarrot I remembering figuring one out at one time but have since forgotten. I don't like the large gap the <br></br>. leaves

No I don't, I've gone with the white space break at the moment

@TheLethalCarrot given your recent surge I might even think you are the favorite. If Egg wasn't so close already

I meant my initial odds they were quite low haha but yeah Egg should win but I don't think he's actively looking at the moment

I got a bronze badge is SW today
does that count for mean anything :P

Nice one

2:06 PM
@TheLethalCarrot yeah I think I had you in 4th with an outside shot

My GoT answer count just dropped from 150 to 149 but I don't see any new downvotes or rep changes. I can't tell if an answer has been deleted, any idea?

althought I just realized that i pass System Down in # of answers

@TheLethalCarrot Question was deleted?

which I thought was tough when i first decided I wanted to pursue the badge

@Edlothiad Maybe but wouldn't that have dropped my rep too?

2:08 PM
@TheLethalCarrot I removed the GoT on that reading order question. It has nothing to do with the show.

Not if it's older than 60 days or something

@Skooba Ahhh makes sense

SAVAGE!

sorry/not sorry

2:09 PM
so my thought of the morning

@Skooba For some reason you left the GRRM tag, which is wrong.

If Varys hates magic and dragons are magic, why does he support Dany (more of a show question as he is supporting fAegon in books)

@Aegon Damn it I was sure I'd answered that already! :P
@Skooba Are dragons magic or are they just ordinary creatures in Planetos?

@Aegon you're putting in too much effort.

@Edlothiad Copy pasting from my other answers?

2:12 PM
@TheLethalCarrot no their magic. it is said a few times. or at least they are strongly linked to magic
i mean how else do eggs centuries old and turned stone become viable again?

@TheLethalCarrot Well if not for your answering spree today, I never would have gone through old questions :P I just found out how close you are to overtaking me :P

@Aegon Carry on then.

@Skooba Well that was blood magic not dragon magic

Take two answers, copy quotes, et voila!

@Aegon Haha a while yet

2:18 PM
18 v 51
Mano e Mano

Egg has got to win surely? :P
At least with Skooba playing some dirty tag editing tricks ;P

I like to think Aegon is secretly finding questions to answer now while pretending to not be.

I have a feeling that may be the case

I like to think we all are
its just the rate at which we do so is different

I'm not pretending at least haha

2:28 PM
@Skooba Speak for yourself, don't put your lies on me...

@Edlothiad It wasn't exactly a secret haha. I feel threatened
17 to go!!!!
Let's see if we can get it over with till tomorrow....Might be too ambitious but aim high and everything I guess.
I never thought my tag excerpt for ASOIAF might come in handy. Thanks @Edl for encouraging me to post ANYTHING that gets me close to 200.

If you go constantly you'll beat it by tomorrow

Proud to be Faithful

@TheLethalCarrot Will most likely get tired/bored/distracted within hours to be honest. Hope that I am wrong

I can do 3 or 4 at a time, depending on how long the answers are, before I end up needing a break from it

2:36 PM
Writes a fantasy tale based of a war in the British Isles set in the middle ages, yet uses American English, talk about breaking immersion...

Hahaha
And the parts that aren't based off of UK are mostly European

2:59 PM

That was on my front page this morning.
Thank god I can leave work in 20 minutes, I'm done for the day

It's on mine too, and lucky!
I've got 2.5 hours yet

Well I've been here since 7:20 so...
9 hours is long enough to be at work.

Fair enough haha

And only 38 minutes for lunch...
HR just sorted me out with the exact minutes I was supposed to work for the first 23 days where my touching in and out wasn't working, baes

3:05 PM
Nice

I'm definitely still like 10 hours behind, paha!

eew, timing in and out

At my previous internship everyone did. Here it's just the newbies.

If Egg keeps up this pace he'll be gold by the end of the day never mind tomorrow

~1/4 of duolingo french left...

3:16 PM
And are you any closer to be able to understand your colleagues? haha

Nope.
I understood what one person said today
He said "Aren't you coming" to another guy

Haha a glowing recommendation for duolingo there then

secretly high fived myself

"Tu vais pas venir?"
Literally the easiest thing I'd learnt...
It's mostly my fault rather than duolingos. I'm sure if I stuck at it and did an hour or so daily I'd be much better.

3:18 PM
Oh yeah it's all about repetition and regularity really
Same with anything

My issue is being unable to understand what they're saying and then translate it to english
I'm sure if they wrote everything they said I'd be better

Does it not speak the words to you?

@TheLethalCarrot Nah still 14 left. And I have had to do what I detest the most. Redundant answers to old questions......I feel.....dirty.

Shit I missed the bus...

@Aegon Most old answers are technically redundant but a lot of the existing answers are missing sources so just adding sources makes it not redundant (my opinion anyway)

3:25 PM
But shouldn't adding sources be an edit instead of an additional answer?

Depends on the amount of work to find the source

@TheLethalCarrot So far, As a rule, I have answered old questions only if there was some key aspect missing from existing answer. Not something I can boast of from today onwards

And if you have anything new to add
@Aegon Haha the decline of Egg

Okay I think I am gonna take a break. It's time to go home anyways. 5/day is good enough. Ought to be done by 11th jan

@JarkoDubbeldam Though I don't think there's any hard rule to this only people's opinions

3:27 PM
@TheLethalCarrot It does, but I normally ignore that and read it.

Here's to hoping you don't steal a night's march on me
:D

Haha
I've done for the day too to be honest
Unless I see a question I like or a new one comes along
:P
Though the week of the false spring is over with now

On Second thoughts, I should get four more. Get half way there

Haha that didn't last long

"The Golden badge is mine by rights" - StannisBaratheon (Probably)

3:38 PM
Haha
I'm sure you could have got a Tywin quote in there too

Tywin says any man who has to say he is the King is no true King at all. Screw Tywin, I want to say I am the King

@Aegon so much for liking Tywin

3:56 PM
@JarkoDubbeldam I say that if you have done the extra work of finding source you should reap the reward of earning reputation for i
like right I am having trouble finding a quote I know I saw about dragons being magic... @TheLethalCarrot like we were talking about before.

I've seen lots of quotes referring to them as being connected to magic but nothing stating they are magic

first line on AWOIAF: Dragons are magical creatures,
but no source
makes me angry lol

Haha
I'm sure they are magical creatures but the problem is to us of course they are, in universe it's hard to tell

also were there dragons in Westeros prior to Aegons?
cause next line is
which existed on the continents of Westeros and Essos,
but does that just mean they were imported

I don't think any lived in Westeros prior to Aegon but they could have gone there

4:02 PM
also that is rhetorical question, I know the answer ;-)
I'm trying to bait someone into asking it on SFF lol

I mean there could have been some but the records have been lost to the winds
And lol

@TheLethalCarrot The only winds are those coming from the lips of god.

There nothing is truly lost. Ever changing the wind can be, but it always blows, and when it does the truth soars with it.

Actually TWoIaF hints at dragons before the conquest but doesn't explicitly state it
Perhaps in preparation for their crossing of the narrow sea, the Valyrians also established their westernmost outpost on the isle that would come to be known as Dragonstone some two hundred years before the Doom. No king opposed them—and though the local lords of the narrow sea made some effort to resist it, the strength of Valyria was too great. With their arcane arts, the Valyrians raised the Citadel at Dragonstone.
Do lowborns get married? (not considering the case to highborns) I'm assuming yes but because they don't really have last names it makes it bit more awkward (in my opinion)
For highborn weddings done by the Faith of the Seven The wiki seems to suggest low borns can get married from that sentence but then all the other information is mainly about highborns so it's hard to tell really
And that sentence isn't sourced

4:24 PM
Okay I am done for the day then
See you guys

Lol see you tomorrow
I shall prepare the ceremony for the golden badge

@TheLethalCarrot Your own? :D

50 answers in one day? My hands would bleed!

Like Rhaenyra's as she climbed atop the Iron Throne
How fitting ;)
Well adios guys

Haha
Ciao

4:55 PM
@TheLethalCarrot the world only cares about high borns!

The story only cares about highborns too haha
I may ask a question on it tomorrow, I may not but I doubt there is any information on it

in the show that farmer dude at winterfell asks for help and is given the two orphan boys
he says something "my wife always wanted more children"

If that's true there's my answer
I really need to start a rewatch

@TheLethalCarrot you mean MY answer.... :P

Lol, answer to the question then

5:03 PM
is it asked?

No, if I'm asking I'll do it tomorrow when I have time to write up a proper question

is missed the word "to" in that last message

2 hours later…
6:59 PM
I just found out we are getting no GoT this year.
This is no beuno...

7:23 PM
@Skooba That's cuz you're a rep whore.
@Skooba They're's theories that there was

8:06 PM
@amflare that's old news already ;-)

I was gone for a week

@Edlothiad Takes one to know one

I reserve the right to gripe about it

@amflare yup and we continue to do so all year!
it just better be worth it

8:22 PM
@Skooba You keep telling yourself that ;)
@Skooba It won't

@Edlothiad at this my expectations are so lowered I'd just rather get the fan service rather than the actual story George will actually tell.

@Skooba If I can't fawn over Sophie, or Ghost until TWOW is released I won't be happy

@Edlothiad what does your ability to fawn over them have to do with the book?

Preferably some nice Ghost scenes. And some more Sam stuff, with a little bit of Gendry and some of Grenn
Oh wait, RIP Grenn
@Skooba Kills time

@Edlothiad did you mean Edd?

8:28 PM
Grenn.

@Edlothiad ah okay. so your hoping that TWOW will be release shortly after the show is over
@Edlothiad yeah i know who he is. I just you meant Edd cause he is still alive.

@Skooba That's why I said RIP Grenn, it was a yolk
@Skooba YE I'm one of those guys.

@Edlothiad that's my "fan/conspiracy" theory as well. George is holding out on purpose.

I bloody well hope so...
