@Edlothiad That's how I felt after reading the red wedding. Wait, is there even story left?
08:17
@Jarko Merci for Maester Coleman I thought I'd checked him out but I was clearly wrong.
yw
I remembered the question when reading the prologue of aCoK, wondering whether Crassen had been accounted for
Cool that's that added in.
2meta4me
08:44
@Edlothiad somewhere in aGoT is a more specific quote saying that Maester Colemon followed Lysa to the Eyrie. I don't think the sending away Pycelle this went further than out of the room.
Hmm I only had a quick look
When I get home I'll look for it
Don't have it on me since I finished reading it yday :p
plus I doubt my employer would appreciate that
you can always look on A search of Ice and Fire
Ooooh didn't know that
and here I was, manually typing those quotes...
I couldn't find anything in my search
08:51
> "A pity Lysa carried them off to the Vale," Ned said dryly. "The gods are doing their best to vex us. Lady Lysa, Maester Colemon, Lord Stannis … everyone who might actually know the truth of what happened to Jon Arryn is a thousand leagues away."
Yep was just about to say
found it
In Eddard VI. which only says he is not in KL anymore
> The sun was well above the mountains by the time Catelyn Stark finally reached the Eyrie. A stocky, silver-haired man in a sky-blue cloak and hammered moon-and-falcon breastplate helped her from the basket; Ser Vardis Egen, captain of Jon Arryn's household guard. Beside him stood Maester Colemon, thin and nervous, with too little hair and too much neck.
In Catelyn VI
Which directly places him in the Eyrie
Ye, but the logic in the first quote is enough.
Not quite
> "A pity Lysa carried them off to the Vale,"
this refers to the household guards, not the Maester, so within the first quote, he could be anywhere
While the point we want to make is that he went back to the Eyrie, following the seat
09:16
Mornin'
Sir, Yes Sir!
175 yesterday in the end :(
I only hit 135 or something, oh well...
I'm never gonna get Epic or Legendary at this rate
09:30
Afternoon Gents
Ok, so my Star Trek answer is up, I need 4 more toots to get me to that bloody silver badge...
Oh cool, I got a story-identification tag badge
Time to find a heart tree
I think Mith has established we're the most active chat room on SFF and deicded to stick around and keep pushing us off-topic...
We're good enough at that as it is haha
09:37
@TheLethalCarrot Mate you've been here what, 2 months? I've been actively doing this for about 11 months now, and am only at 69 (hue hue hue)
@Edlothiad something something pot something something kettle
I'm waiting for SW, the next Marvel film
and then S8
@Edlothiad sure
@Edlothiad The other theory is Papa smurf has sent him in to spy on us
@Edlothiad Member for 1 year, 11 months, but not active over that time aye
09:39
@TheLethalCarrot Ye, I mean I'm a "member" for a year and 6 months or smth, but the first 6 months I didn't actively do anything
Took 6 months to get 500 rep
Yeah my rep graph is great, I wonder if you can pinpoint the moment I started actively participating
@Edlothiad oh noes! I've been found out! MISSION ABORT
Wow that late?
@TheLethalCarrot *technically* you're not supposed to edit just formatting, it's not a significant edit
09:54
Yes, you are.
@Edlothiad Eh, you can use formatting to change a post from a terrible mess to something readable
I'd say that's significant
If it actively improves readability, you should definitely make the edit.
When you edit you should fix all the mistakes in the post, I only saw that one and as my edits don't go through the review queue it was fine to do
placing random backticks, > and * in a post will make a post hard to read, so doing the opposite, might make it good, and would only edit formatting
My SO meta post about the subject got downvoted into oblivion because I complained that >2k users should also fix everything in a post and obviously meta is mostly full of >2k users who don't want to do proper edits apparently
Actually it's currently at +20/-27
Basically all <2k users agreed cos they wanted everyone to make complete edits and all >2k users disagreed cos they couldn't be bothered to make them. (paraphrasing jus a little)
10:01
@Mithrandir TLC knew what edit I was talking about, and it was adding two spaces to move the citation to a lower line, although I am extremely grateful as I hate when I miss that
If that was the only thing to improve...
Of course it was, I'm god-like...
It always spooks me out when 3 edits have the same number of characters added: scifi.stackexchange.com/posts/172932/revisions
Is that just cuz they were made in a short period of time?
Or a really weird coincidence?
@Edlothiad Yes.
When you started the edit, it was still in the grace period from the last edit, so it kept the same revision history comment. But by the time you finished, the grace period had ended, but it still copied the revision history comment.
How long is the grace period? Isn't it 3 minutes?
5 I think
10:13
Hmm yes, this would make sense
5 minutes, but it can get interrupted by other things.
Like, a comment will end the grace period.
There are some cases where it won't though isn't there?
I think when a new question is posted only a different user edit interrupts it?
...no, I'm fairly certain that a comment still ends the grace period there.
Mmmhm I remember something about it a while back on SO meta
Maybe it got changed, either that or I'm imagining it
(I got there eventually)
10:36
What is the biggest thing they left out of the series in your opinion?
Book to show?
@JarkoDubbeldam The story
10:37
haha
IDK about LSH tbh, she was so briefly mentioned in the books that I'm not sure how significant it is going to be
GRRM wasn't pleased she wasn't in the show though
Well at least he wanted her in it
Personally it is the lack of the conversation between Tyrion and Jaime as Tyrion is freed from his cell
That one really bugged me
On one side because it starts the drift between Cersei and Jaime
The Talisa v Jeyne thing is bad too
Made Robb look like a right turd in the show
> "You poor stupid blind crippled fool. Must I spell every little thing out for you? Very well. Cersei is a lying whore, she's been fucking Lancel and Osmund Kettleblack and probably Moon Boy for all I know.
This is sooooo important, because it enforces Jaime's inner conflicts
but instead the abusive relationship continued on
10:41
Well the show didn't really care about the conflicts till the end of season 7 where they essentially rushed them
They like to rush a lot in the later seasons
but that's only half of it
All because they put a stupid, pointless season limit on
Because Jaime also replied, explaining the whole 'your wife actually wasn't a whore, that was a lie' story
Which is a big reason why Tyrion felt the need to shoot Tywin
@JarkoDubbeldam the fact that this quote appears 11(!) times in the books, shows how significant it is for Jaime's character
You liking asearchof then? Haha
10:46
It is very handy
I think I've read more of the books on that site than from my actual ones haha
> "She was no whore. I never bought her for you. That was a lie that Father commanded me to tell. Tysha was . . . she was what she seemed to be. A crofter's daughter, chance met on the road."
Tyrion could hear the faint sound of his own breath whistling hollowly through the scar of his nose. Jaime could not meet his eyes. Tysha. He tried to remember what she had looked like. A girl, she was only a girl, no older than Sansa. "My wife," he croaked. "She wed me."
"For your gold, Father said. She was lowborn, you were a Lannister of Casterly Rock. All she wanted was the gold, which made her no
Actually, is it ever cleared up in the books who killed Joffrey? I just saw Tyrion saying to Jaime that he killed him, but that could've been out of spite.
Is it not the same as the show?
LF and Olenna
I'm not sure if it was explicitly confirmed though
If it's not it will either be in TWOW or be the same as who sent the catspaw, majorly hinted at being Joff but never stated explicitly
11:02
I’m pretty sure it’s been confirmed, let me check when i’m Back from lunch
@JarkoDubbeldam Ned Warging into the NK last minute and taking his place, he just wants his revenge on lil Joff
11:19
Ned = NK = Bran confirmed
11:47
Inb4 Ned's honour was caused by Bran watching him at the Tower, similar to Hodor
Long read but pretty good description of a lesser known character (warning TWOW spoiler)
WE DID IT REDDIT!
12:04
What did we do now? :P
Did I possibly manipulate a tag into a place it didn't necessarily have to be yesterday?
Yes, do I care? No.
Is there a better way to do probabilities than
intRandom = random.randint(1,101)
if (intRandom < 20): do x
elif (intRandom > 20 && intRandom<80): do y
else: do z
12:12
intRandom = random.randint(1,101)
if (intRandom < 20): do x
elif (intRandom<80): do y
else: do z
is sufficient
Okie dokie!
639 SO rep, that's 638 more than me, i'll take it!
also, this should be <= if you want probabilities of 20-60-20
now its 19-60-21
Ye, I know, I just ignored it
I should probably include 0, right?
no? mb not?
Who cares? not me.
In C# random.Next(101) will give a number from 0-100 anyway
doesn't matter, 1-101 or 0-100 should do that same, but you gotta correct your if statements accordingly
@TheLethalCarrot yeah, you don't want that
1-100 or 0-99
you want 100 possible returns, not 101
I assumed the randint upperbound as non-inclusive
12:15
ye you assumed correctly
that's right you don't want 101 options
Golly you're clever Jarko!
well, I work as a statistician so...
Where's your Cross Validated rep?
eh, its something
I was just stating that you could simplify the statement if your language supported it so rand.Next(100) then
Whelp, noped out of there
12:16
It was the first site I was active on, but tbh, my interest is shifting more towards programming
@TheLethalCarrot It's python, lord knows what python supports
Never really used python
not sure how python's rng is implemented, but alternatively you can get a random digit between 0-1 and check if it's < 0.2 or <0.8
That way you don't have to worry about inclusion and stuff
Ye guess I'll do that
12:19
using random.random()
I thought of a caveat but realised I'm just shite at maths
@Edlothiad See I do have some posts on CV: stats.stackexchange.com/a/244345/134565
@JarkoDubbeldam Whoosh
I take that back, I understood that, nice answer
My first ever silver badge :')
Reason I kinda stopped frequenting CV was because the content is very much beginner level or very complicated and specific. I find neither very interesting
Yeah, that's what I thought. The "interesting" stuff, is bloody intense to follow
12:29
From origin, I am not a mathematician, so I have a hard time following some of the answers
Ah ok, ye I'm an engineer and I sucked at stats, so I tend to get lost quite quickly
NOOOO TARGAR-AEGON IS AEGON AEGAIN!
What haha
The "targar-aegon" comment is gone again
but I saw more opportunity to throw in more Aegon so I put Aegon in everywhere
I wrote :Aegain" because if I'd said "Aegon Aegon" it would've been too confusing
Aegone might've been better:/
Ah it was the IS AEGON that threw me
12:35
I contemplated the e, but then I thought not enough Aegon
12:46
Can you not embed youtube links in spoilers?
Or did I just do it wrong?
How well does the wall work not very it came crashing down.
I mean against the wights very well aparrently
Against the WWs themselves = questionable
Against Vicerion not at all
+1 just for the title.
Haha it seemed about right though
Anyway that took longer than expected I'm late going for my dinner
lunch
12:54
You know by now I use them interchangeably
13:45
SE expects me to judge if a Russian song posted by Aleksei Shimansky on SO na Russkom offensive or not
if you don't understand the message, just ignore it
Maybe they should show the offensive flags on localized SEs only to people who are members of those SEs?
@Mithrandir Aye that's what I did. Which makes me think what I said above
Time to see how do Chat flags work and if there is already a proposal for that on meta
Is it not just above 10k (or 20k) network wide and theyget shown to you?
10k
I know that, because I flagged something yday and the entire chat flooded with users >.>
13:49
I assumed it would only go to the site mods :x
Nah, you have to click flag for moderator attention to send it to the mods I believe.
they were anxious to tell me as well xd
Me and TLC complain about the chat system everyday, it's borked, but oh well
A lot of the moderation side of the entire SE is borked
@TheLethalCarrot if I can onebox the youtube video in your answer while hidden can I edit it?
13:52
Yeah I can't seem to work it out
Nope No idea, I've done it before but can't remember how
Oh well
We tried :P
As you've got it now, it's very visible...
I'd suggest you go back to what you had before
Well after some scrolling yes
static link
13:57
I never had a static link
But they don't know that S7E7 is mentioned
Whatever it's called when it's not one-boxed
It was always a onebox
That better?
It didn't onebox for me in V1
I swear on me left and right babymakers it didn't
Mmmhm odd, it was for me. Oh well it's hidden behind a link now anyway
Hahaha
14:11
Myrcella and Tommen aren't dead in the books yet are they?
Didn't think so
Myrcelle is missing an ear iirc, but that's it
Aye the wiki said something about an assassination attempt on her and her being injured but it does state as of yet she's still alive.
14:14
I'm pretty sure it's covered in the TWOW spoiler chapters, no?
Haven't read them
@TheLethalCarrot Would that be the abduction attempt or something different?
I don't know I only read it off the wiki, I haven't actually finished AGoT yet
One more answer for the day lined up :)
:eyeroll:
Now i’m Thinking I can’t wait for this lord of the rings show.
Hahaha
I'm almost out of candidates though :(
14:25
Gosh fiddlesticking DARN IT!!!!
It ran in it's infinite loop for 5 minutes and then crashed... Seven Hells!
Damn, OutOfMemory, StackOverflow? :P
The dreaded "FindFailed"
The code lost sync with the UI and it wasn't where it thought it was... (I think!)
Ye it misclicked and thought it was a new test when it wasn't pooping heck...
I hate questionable errors like that haha
It could be this! But it's probably not haha
Well the worst thing is it has no memory so I can't see what the values were when it crashed, I have to watch the interface...
Oh that's horrible
14:29
Love to edit your tiny spelling mistakes
Oh I'm good at adding them in for you
All on purpose of course...
Keeping me at the top of that monthly editing list.
I'd call them typos though, not mistakes :P
I'm 3200 behind valorum and average ~ 100 more than him a month. So I guess in 3 years I'll be the top!
14:32
When you look at the monthly vote stats, you realise how selfish people are with rep, they complain they don't get enough votes and they're not sharing the love themselves!
Oh I'm terrible at remembering to vote haha
Though again I only look in GoT and ASOIAF and no one else is active there at the moment
I just click the little toot button when I answer, enter a post etc
I read a lot of the stuff, just out of interest, it's how I know most of my knowledge everywhere
Aight run this again and read your post
Which one?
Last answer done for the day :) Unless I get bored later on haah
Top 4 on the homepage is me, or Ed's minor edit to one of my answers haha
14:51
Your most recent answer, there's plenty of examples in The World OIAF
Well after 3 from the main series and a throwaway line to historical events I stopped
I'll have a quick search though
Actually there's quite a lot, I suggest you look there
This pseudo random number generator definitely favours <0.4!
I searched for "flayed" did you just use flay?
No that only brings back 2 as well
Maybe I'm misremembering
I recall there being a load
Both searches of "flay" or "flayed" both only bring back 2
14:55
Ok that's run for 15 minutes, enough of that
@Edlothiad hmm, I really need to stop being a grump and upvote more. I've been mostly downvoting nowadays
I've added the two quotes from TWoIaF in anyway
> Other Red Kings were reputed to wear cloaks made from the skins of Stark princes they had captured and flayed.
Ye only found that, whoopsies
Was much more often in my head, maybe I'm due for a re-read
I also found the Belthasar Bolton's Pink Pavilion made from the flayed skins of a hundred Sistermen...
@Edlothiad thats problematic
15:00
Nah it decided it wants to even out afterwards
All these late answers really take my score/answer ratio down
15:12
You got at least 1!
Just think about the gold
15:25
I always get at least 1, and I assume they're usually from you haha
It annoys me when people comment a minor correction and don't upvote too. Especially as that took a bit of research to do too.
I mean I don't expect everyone to upvote but c'mon
:P
15:40
Happy thanksgiving you wonderful European bastards (and wherever Jarko lives).
Happy needless turkey murder day
(I think that's the quote)
Hey now! It’s not needless! We eat them too!
Oh yeah turkey is good, no where near the best meat though
@amflare are you going to leave me to the reviews and do family things now?!
15:51
Ah the quote was from Friends
@Edlothiad Seems appropriate for you...

1 hour later…
17:10
That happened today, it was weird
Weird I posted it today then cos I meant to do it yesterday and forgot haha
My new work program seems to be “hey Ed we need these tests done for Friday” i’m Like “ok” start work Friday morning, finish Friday midday 4.5 days of procrastination
Yesterday I definitely did 0 work haha
Haha I've been bad for it today. Was good this morning then got to just before lunch and we realised the approach we had planned we couldn't do. So I had to back everything out and redo it all again from scratch
Needless to say I haven't done much since then cos my motivation fell like a stone

1 hour later…
18:24
You @JarkoDubbeldam are always allowed to edit my posts
@Mithrandir I don't know how I feel about this being posted in here
On a more friendly not, I've got ~50 pages of SFF ones to go through, and I think you can guess where my priorities lie ;)
I can remove them if you don't think they should be here.
No @amf, come back, if you can't because of Thanksgiving I wish you a lovely festive period and enjoy the shizz out of the turkey for us Europeans (I think Jarko is european, he has a northern european name and is awake at the same time as I am)
Nah you're welcome to ask, I just don't really want this to become the main site room, not because of more people, (although I am not that welcome to newcomers) but content wise
While we do stray we try to keep it on-topic, but if it just becomes new mos or whatever you want to call it then we all know what's going to happen...
...then we'll all learn not to make Mos's mistakes all over again?
But the content was the main point
this is and should always be a GoT and aSoIaF chatroom, even if we stray
@Edlothiad Dutch
18:31
I finally learned who the author of ASoIaF is today runs
That's fine, I mean we all start somewhere
I watched the LotR films before the books, look at me now ;)
Hello @Dobrychtop, what brings you to our little humble abode :)
@Edlothiad you are dead to me
Oh well...
We can't pleasure them all
(so appropriate given the room :D nice one ed!)
