So, I'm looking at the prices of used iPhone 4Ses in our area and they are expensive! Do I need to pay the extra $100 to get the 4S, or will I be fine with the 4? I don't think I'll need (or use) Siri, as I won't have 3G. I would love the camera on the 4S, but it isn't worth an extra 100.

On the 24th (in the middle of the US) I checked Australia and they are saying it will be the 26 th for release. I'm checking now to see if it's actually out on any stores yet since it's the middle of the day in europe already.

I think it's a positive for the site overall - and even though I'm of a mind to close a lot of "CW" style questions - a major OS release seems to be pretty safe for asking IMO.

I should head to one of my local stores to see if they have a cached server set up to download it locally. That was so cool last time I ran updates on a new mac while in the store.
@DanielLawson The purchased tab of the app store shows the time remaining. A calculator can confirm that the speeds I see in Activity Monitor for network throughput is due to that one download.
I don't like this new cloud world. The permanence of physical media is comforting… and Orwell-insurance.
@gentmatt But Lion has to somehow still be downloadable, because that's what the Internet Recovery option would do for someone who hasn't purchased ML…
@DanielLawson I'll test this later - it's not likely that it's gone if you bought it - perhaps hidden or not shown by default - but that seems too hasty to be anything but a temporary bug or misunderstanding IMO.
@DanielLawson I guess so. To me the option to create a custom USB with the .dmg image is very important, so I need to be able to download it via the App Store.

Also - those on Lion using Safari 6 - there is a bug on the site where you will get warnings when saving edits. See this post for details on the status of this site bug...

Also - if you all want to vote to re-open that question on Meta, I'd appreciate it. The other error on safari 5.1 was not repro and this is gonna be irksome if the main devs don't look at a fix. Hopefully then run updates today or install Mountain Lion and deploy a fix to the site editor code sooner rather than later.

No one here was complaining about errors submitting edits and we all used safari 5.1 so I'm just not liking that an old question is being kept to track an emerging issue

@IanC. We're trying to keep them to a very limited number. One per new OS release doesn't seem unmanageable. And if it becomes that, we can make it go away.
@Dynamic I don't believe this rumor. Instead I would imagine that the designers follow specific aspect ratios which are known for "looking good". You know, like the golden ratio.
the wording on this new one is, I believe, going to cause some mainteance headaches. Those other ones have "one thing" in the title. You have to read the whole question to get the "one thing per post" in the new one.

ProTip: you can summon the installer log with Command-L and switch to showing all logs with Command-3 if you want to watch what Mountain Lion is doing while it installs itself on your Mac.
@DanielLawson I did a little poking around and I can't find a good way to get rid of the NC menu bar icon short of disabling it entirely :( Even if I swap out the images for 1px-wide ones it still takes up the same amount of space.
I did get it to show a Dock icon, but that's not exactly helpful :)
You can get rid of the Spotlight icon by chmod'ing the executable, which works fine because the indexing and Finder search is done by separate processes.
NC doesn't work because the same process is in charge of the drawer UI
Wrap-up Ultimately, this is pretty easy: you should spend the $20 and upgrade to Mountain Lion, especially if you have a newer Mac. You’ll gain a handful of must-have features, and everything will get faster and smoother. I haven’t really missed Snow Leopard at all since upgrading, which is remarkable considering how much I disliked Lion.

@JasonSalaz It's a reflex from working support for years. I don't even think about it - as soon as I see an installer and more than three minutes wait - I pop off those two shortcuts in quick succession.
