15:50
Well, predictions?
16:32
It's lonely in here
16:50
PEOPLE!
WHERE ARE PEOPLE
Heh, the stream is borked for me >.>
yay, fixed
Apple Pay launching Monday
WatchKit. November. Yes.
Yay, another Craig Show
17:16
Hi!
Hi!
Stream good this time >:D
iOS 8.1.
Hair Force One is so much more confident and clear presenting.
It's been a while since I've used Yosemite.
I'm here now. Yosemite looks pretty.
iCloud Photos looks great too.
Assuming iCloud works and isn't a turd. Man I wish they'd just bought Dropbox...
@IanC. It's quite cleaner
17:25
@bmike I just like UI refreshes. I like to move my desk around often too. Refreshes my mind.
I totally agree. I'm probably going to do a clean, bare metal install and add all my settings one by one.
on 10.10 when it ships.
snazzy -- AirPlay without WiFi.
Mmm...continuity. This is how I've always wanted all my computers to work together.
yup - it's awesome in the betas. both airplay and continuity
I never could get Continuity to work, but that was way back in Beta 4-ish
demo!
17:27
It's solid now, very solid
answering a call via continuity takes a long time
@KyleCronin shhh. let me imagine it's perfect for a while.
is apple's cafe not subsidized/free?
humour!
hotspot, not so solid yet
You can tell he's a little nervous about continuity working
@Undo he seems jittery for sure.
17:29
yay it worked :D
but damn that's cool.
it is
I think I got it to work once
the amount of bluetooth and wi fi interference in that stage - I'd be a bit nervous as well
hope you've got a great cellular data plan if you're using that off wifi though!
@IanC. IIRC it uses bluetooth
right?
17:30
hm, not getting anything for infinitescoop.net
Me neither
Probably a proxy on their network
i thought it synced over icloud. otherwise you couldn't start something on one computer at one location, continue on another.
Oh, right.
i don't find colbert funny.
@IanC. it would be cool if they implemented a local sync using ad-hoc WiFi and/or Bluetooth as a bonded network interface. Whatever pipes are open, the continuity pushes when activated only...
17:32
this is not funny
They're trying to make a point
too bad the call quality wasn't better
point was lost on me
point == secrecy :P
they're going overboard on the silliness
17:35
I kinda like it
weeee! os update time!
Yosemite. Today.
Free. Yay
8.1 Monday
Not releasing OS X and iOS updates at the same time—here's hoping less stress on Apple servers
When was the last time an Apple OS upgrade cost money?
Mountain Lion, I think
17:37
I thought it was Lion
meh, can't remember :P
can't remember
I think ML still cost money
Holy crap that's a lot of iPads
0
Q: How do I do a clean install of Yosemite?

Ian C.I'd like to start from scratch with Yosemite. I have Mavericks running on my iMac now but I'd like to just wipe the system and start with a clean Yosemite install. How do I do a clean install of Yosemite on my machine, not an upgrade install?

How long have you been sitting on that? :P
17:41
30 seconds?
oh :P
the pencil ad was good
yeah
here we go
It now doubles as a knife
... wow
is that a gold coloured iPad?
yes
17:42
yep
it looked goldish in that clip
with touch ID
I wonder if the iPad Air 2 bends
that's ridiculously thin
bendgate 2: the bendining
this will never survive my children
the Gen 2 is holding up to their abuse though.
and snot. man, that thing handles snot really well
Plot twist: Chassis made of titanium in response to bendgate.
17:45
hm I might get it due to the display fusion alone
wow
who flagged my Yosemite question for closure? :)
that was my biggest complaint
So I can't get five and start fires with them?
A8X
A8 with better GPU, right?
yup
gimme. gimme gimme gimme
(Actually, my 3rd gen is doing great. I'm proud of it)
i am super impressed at how long my Gen 2 has lasted. it's pretty much used by the kids now but still...has iOS 8 on it, plays their games and Netflix and Plex to the AppleTV. pretty good life from that.
17:47
Mine has gone to two WWDCs, and it looks like it might make it through another one.
I love how that camera looks in the body, for some reason.
people taking photos with iPads look silly, sorry.
I don't care how I look :P
just...don't.
yeah, not going to take photos with my iPad, no matter how great the camera is
that's amazing
17:51
are those dots on either side of the camera in the case the mics?
so the iPad Air 2 has the iPhone 5s camera
@KyleCronin can the 5s do slo motion stuff?
Or is that a software thing more than anything else?
yep, 120fps
the 6 has 240fps slo mo
Ah, so it can't do 240
booourns apple pay
c'mon get to the retina imacs...daddy needs a new computer...
2
17:54
@IanC. Is this a one hour event or a two hour event?
i love pixelmator. use it all the time.
I don't "need" a new computer, but if a retina iMac is announced I'll be getting one :)
'cause if it's a one hour event, retina macs ain't happenin
@KyleCronin every time i've gone to buy a new desktop in the last year i've said, "No Ian, wait. Patience. Retina iMac."
@Undo no clue.
it's gotta be a 2+ hour event, they're nowhere close to finishing
17:56
That's... scary stuff right there, disappearing oryxes
they're showing off doing "real work" on an iPad
which is tough when the screen is so small
I'd say a big iPad is very likely to be announced
This is cool
@KyleCronin yea, I could see a larger iPad with this kind of horsepower in it being a huge hit with photographers.
hah, autocorrect beat him
I want this
... free. FREE
@Undo bet there's a lot of IAP
18:01
yeah, probably
they need to stop making these things in 16GB sizes. useless.
hah. yup. so it's $10. which is still stupid cheap for what it is.
@IanC. I get by fine with a 16GB model
but I don't really watch a bunch of media
no A8X for the mini?
18:02
not sure
Might have an A7X
A $399 iPad Air is a pretty awesome deal. I wonder what they'll be refurb.
wat they're still selling the A5 mini?
MacBook Air time
please, please don't kill the standard Pro
Here we go
video
so nice to see they have live streaming fixed for this event.
Retina iMac
hah. work just emailed us all and told us not to upgrade our MBP to Yosemite 'cause beta testers were having WiFI drop outs.
18:06
yes...
EEEEYYYYYYEEEEEMMMMMAAAACCCCS!
I want one of these
ok where's the page to order one?
@IanC. Yosemite was better on my network than Mavericks is
@Undo it's likely an issue with the enterprise wifi radios and routers we have in our office.
18:07
Oh
haha. i'm sitting at '07 iMac and it's got like nothing in comparison to that for resolution...
It's... bigger than 4k? :O
hah, I read that as 5nm at first
I want to play with one of these at an Apple Store.
Wonder what it'll cost :/
All your photos will now look crappy :P
drooling on my keyboard....
Not a Jony video?
It's crazy that they can run that many pixels.
Actually, the iPad retina display still amazes me
wonder what their pixel error rate is like in the screens?
18:12
doesn't matter, you can't see them :P
would suck to get a bunch of dead pixels, but maybe you just wouldn't notice now.
... a 4GHZ i7. Wow
cores over clocks for me these days
They need that graphics power just to run those pixels
Gonna be crazy expensive with all the upgrads
18:14
can't be...it's an iMac.
uh oh, they're dancing around it
$2500
boom!
not bad at all.
shit memory
A little more expensive than I could pony up :P
@Undo Base
Okay, so they're keeping the standard ones
18:15
ah. the others in the lineup got cheaper though.
nice.
Mac mini
Standard updates, nothing exciting
YES MAC MINI UPDATES
two TB ports!
$599 down to $499
thunderboat
two TB ports is very nice. great price.
18:16
I'll be getting one of those too as a compact server
Apple is going to get so much of my money today
3
hah.
@IanC. But I wonder how well it powers 2 TB displays
@Kevin should be fine as long as they're not 4K.
@Kevin I'm sure it'll be just fine, I've run 2 TB displays off my 13" rMBP with no problem
My 2012 MBP standard can power a couple standard displays no problem, should be fie
18:18
safari's Cmd+#key for bookmarks drives me nuts. that should switch tabs like every. other. browser.
Hey, that's cool. Thanks!
They're taunting us with that watch
hah!
might need to drive over to cupertino this afternoon...
I made it to Mountain View once, that's as close as I've been
bet the retina iMacs are in the corporate store now. the online store is down.
got to run, cya folks
18:25
ciao
19:04
back
Not seeing Yosemite in the App Store, is it not released yet?
no quad core Mac mini anymore, even BTO? :-(
19:23
@Undo not there for me yet, either.
A new iMac AND I'll finally move to Logic X...why not.

2 hours later…
20:55
@Undo not seeing it for "purchase" either
The URL will be itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/… but it's not on the USA store now/yet/currently
@IanC. I might need to get one when they arrive tomorrow in town.
Still doing the math on all the "buys" and then ordering them. Might wait for the bump on the retina iMac...
21:32
Download started :-) :-)
22:08
The link above has some great tips on cleaning up /usr/local before installing Yosemite.
Might save you a bit of time on slower Macs
thanks for that
22:26
@KyleCronin I don't think so. My guess is most of the mini are servers now and not CPU constrained in the least
Even the 1.4 is just fine for most of my clients and they will appreciate the $100 to spend elsewhere big time.
22:37
Yosemite incoming :D
~ 1:45
and getting faster
22:53
35 min for me to download.
lucky :p
Glad it's not too slow.
We're thinking about getting a better connection, but meh
It didn't get cached on my mac mini though :-(
I'll thumb drive it around the place tonight :-)
@bmike The download from the app store is generic, right?
22:55
It's fun at work - 1 Gbit fiber
I'll probably thumb drive it too
All downloads are generic and cached if you have Server.app configured properly. It then does the signing business on a per-client basis.
Oh, huh.
has server.app but not configured right, probably
I'll just put it on a thumb drive before installing it on this machine
1hr 9 to go
That's about how long my clone of the boot drive will take. I want something bootable and then I'm nuking my Mac Pro for a totally clean install
fun
maxed out iMac (processor, memory, storage, and graphics): $4,399.00
Ima just gonna get as far away from this buy button as possible
2.08/5.16 GB, halfway there
23:50
so slow to download here...
@bmike solid gold link. Thanks you!
5.1/5.16 :D
Aaaaand I've got it :D
