Q: PSA: When reviewing, don't post duplicate (and near-duplicate) comments!

Eliah KaganAs jrg♦ said (pinned in main chat): Hey folks who use "canned" comments: If you see one thats already there that expresses the same general idea, don't add another one. Thanks. :) This has been happening a lot lately, and I'm pretty sure it's mainly because many people are not using the new rev...

Also even when you recommend deletion for an answer, make sure to also flag it, as it's usually handled faster by mods these days.

@BeastOfCaerbannog OK!
@BeastOfCaerbannog So should I use no comment needed?
If the same comment already exists, yes.
@Natty tp
@Someone I have no idea about this, but why isn't this an answer?
@BeastOfCaerbannog Oh! Maybe I did it because of its poor quality. I thought I'll just agree with thunderbird.
@Someone Hmmm. If you are unsure about something, then just skip it. Don't fall into the trap of believing something because someone else believes it. Try to think without being affected by the comments/actions of others (it's not always easy) when reviewing.

@BeastOfCaerbannog Hmmm. I do skip a lot of reviews. I'm sorry for that one!
It's OK. IMO the aforementioned answer is actually an answer.
@Natty ne
Should I do such a big edit paraphrasing the text?
I don't really like this edit. Most of the changes aren't really necessary, as most of the text was grammatically correct before the changes. You just used fancier words, which don't actually make the post easier to read. Also changing "So I just changed my OS from windows 10 to ubuntu" to "So, I recently upgraded my operating system from Windows 10 to Ubuntu" isn't right. It's not an upgrade. The OP literally changed the OS.
Woah! That's a big reply
OK, I understand, rollback
I was trying to make it look a little more formal
What about this one? I did the same thing here
@Someone Edited.
@Someone I think that this is OK

OK! Thanks
how to format images as inline in Chat?
BTW don't really mind that image
I removed the answer from this question and added it as a CW. Please upvote.
Just add the link as comment.
I recently installed that script
What syntax did you used to upload image?
No syntax, just the link

@BeastOfCaerbannog I want that tool. Seems useful to punch folks.
@BeastOfCaerbannog thanks a lot for doing that! upvoted
@jokerdino you already have a destroy button... how much rage do you have boiling away there?
when the rage meter doesn't reach destroy levels, need some button to diffuse the situation.

@jokerdino I thought it was quite a smiley idea
Is this question on topic? I guess it relates to installing Ubuntu (i.e., what you have to do before you install it), but I don't really know because it is more about "how do I root my device". It would be on topic on Android SE, but it being more on-topic somewhere else doesn't mean it is off-topic here
@cocomac I don't think our community has the knowledge to answer that... also, I don't think Ubuntu Touch is on topic in any case. I'm not really sure though... despite the meta discussions relating to it I'm still not clear!
15:57
@Zanna Our community doesn't know that currently does not make a question off-topic. Ubuntu Touch being deprecated is, and per this Meta answer I believe it can be closed as "EOL Release"
It looks like Ubuntu Touch is still arround even if not maintained by Canonical, so I'm not sure

@Zanna No problem. Thanks for upvoting! :)

Q: Punch a user button!

Manishearth Gotten frustrated with a user? Want to vent? Feel like punching them? Don't worry, here's a script that adds a "Punch" button to every gravatar. @cocomac it is very EOL, but there is a fork...
I am unsatisfied with the meta post
@cocomac Whether doing something to your hardware before you install Ubuntu or not is a grey area. I would not object to the question being closed or not being closed on the basis that our community can't be expected to have such peripheral knowledge. We all have to, like, access the firmware to install Ubuntu, so we have that knowledge,
but installing Ubuntu on phones has barely been a thing. OP is overwhelmingly more likely to get an answer on Android SE to how do I root this particular phone and we should advise them accordingly
@BeastOfCaerbannog excellent rubs hands in glee

@Zanna Forks are off-topic automatically because they aren't official derivatives. Unless that Ubuntu touch derivative is official (which I'm pretty sure it isn't), then I think that it is off-topic. Interestingly, however, we support installing Ubuntu on Chromebooks (which are locked-up by default), so that seems pretty close to rooting a phone, given that both are designed to run only one OS by default.
Of course, that quesion is about installing real Ubuntu, not Ubuntu Touch
@Zanna I think that generally doing something to hardware is on-topic, as demonstrated by Chromebooks, but I think that Ubuntu Touch should be off-topic. Of course... is installing full Ubuntu Desktop, say, 21.10, on a phone on topic? =

A: Crouton install vs Crouton-based Ubuntu problem

OliHistorical conversations on this have mirrored your question fairly exactly: What gets installed is Ubuntu, proper. Questions about using it are on topic. How it's installed (and how it boots) are not Ubuntu proper and are off-topic. That conversation stemmed from a bunch of questions being t...

@cocomac Canonical allowed UBPorts to use the Ubuntu Touch branding etc. I'm not sure what the situation is, but there was certainly some appetite on the site to support it. It's really a different case from Ubuntu derivatives like Mint - those distros/communities don't want to be Ubuntu (so we should not absorb them), whereas the Ubuntu Touch community does want to be Ubuntu, just Canonical hasn't got the resources/appetite to do the work
I don't see that we are bound to support or not support any particular thing - it's really up to us to make the right decisions on that

A: Is UBPorts within the scope of AskUbuntu?

dobeyI would say that UBports questions are on topic. It is not an Ubuntu project in the way Kubuntu or Lubuntu might be, but Canonical wrote the vast majority of software that makes up what UBports is, still owns all that Copyright, and is allowing UBports to use the Ubuntu trademark. The requiremen...
