can anyone link some reading material on what happens to the X server when switching to a different virtual terminal?

I'm looking for information on if the GUI is suspended, continues running as if it were "minimized", ect

idk, I kind of think he was claiming to be bored so as not to make me feel bad about my laziness. Has anyone here actually been bored in their free time since they got internet access? I don't think I have been bored for the last 18 years, except at work...
