@Natty tp (success report, NAA)

I am not sure it actually did that.
The issue has to do with the meaning of "notify."
There is a white number in a blue background by "bookmarks" in our profiles.
That was there when they were starred questions or favorites or whatever it was.

that number shows updates?

It's the number of changes to favorite questions (or, now, bookmarks).
Yeah.
I don't know what kind of updates but new answers count, as do I think some other events.
I'm not sure if all forms of new activity qualify (like edits on answers).

I did not even know that!

Some of the other profile tabs also have highlighted numbers.

4:11 AM
should that question be unprotected?
the deleted answers are questions about the answer
@EliahKagan it's clear what those other numbers mean... like, you got some more rep, you got some more responses
I thought the bookmarks number was posts you added since you last looked
although that seems a useless thing to count

@Zanna No, I rarely add bookmarks these days but fairly often see changes on the bookmarks tab and a corresponding number.
@Zanna I don't know if that means it should stay protected, or that it should be unprotected, or if it means neither.

I bookmark stuff I want to check on or edit later on a pretty much daily basis
@EliahKagan sort of suggests to me that more answers may be needed, or the answer needs improvement

4:34 AM
@Zanna That makes sense. I've gone ahead and unprotected it.
(You can of course re-protect it if you decide that is wrong.)

I have unprotected this question also, again on the basis that the deleted answers are critiquing the only existing answer, as opposed to being spam or "me too" posts
anyone who objects may protect it again or ping me about it^

seems a useless tag

@Natty ne
@Zanna I agree

I'll post on meta about it
but there is already a lot of tag stuff
so I might wait a bit

@Natty fp But I don't know why would it make any difference. Also the questions seems unclear.

@Zanna Looks like a tag for questions about data in /home
And user defined settings and manually installed packages.
I don't think it's absolutely useless.

the questions in it are totally random

However I can't find any random questions which doesn't talk about user-data/app settings even after using

^ Borderline betwee ne and fp. I guess I'm not totally sure which is better. Anyway, the deletion is probably fine and I'm not advocating undeleting it.
@Natty ne Besides the edit that was done, it could also benefit from expansion. (But it's okay.)

would anything on this page benefit from an update, given that the X server now runs on tty1, (or for any other reason)?

5:47 PM
@Zanna I think there are a lot of places that could benefit from being updated about that... but I am not sure that the current situation is as simple as the X server now running on tty1.
For example, I have a Lubuntu 18.04 LTS system (or an Ubuntu system installed from the minimal CD with the lubuntu-desktop task installed on it; I'm not sure which and ordinarily I would not consider this to be a significant difference) on which the X server is on tty7.
It's upgraded from 16.04, and before that from 14.04, but whether or not this is due to that, it's a currently supported Ubuntu system on which the X server runs on tty7 without me ever having done anything to change what tty it uses.
Do we have a question about the change?
Like, an obvious thing to ask about this is what events led up to the change being made. I find it very strange.

I think we do have a question about the change... let me have a quick look
hmm I only found this one

Q: Ctrl+Alt+F7 doesn't switch back to X session in Kubuntu 18.04 Bionic

Dmitriy VinokurovAfter I switch to virtual console using Ctrl+Alt+F6 I could not get back to X session using Ctrl+Alt+F7 - only blinking cursor is shown. Tried chvt - same result. Have to reboot and lost all my opened apps which is very inconvenient. Kubuntu version is 18.04 Bionic. Could anybody help?

6:04 PM
As asked and answered, that's Kubuntu-specific.

yes
is this question really a dupe of that?

Considering that the target and its answers nowhere contain the sequence of characters lvm nor the sequence of characters vg, and also that they don't seem to be duplicates going by their titles and bodies, I'm gonna say probably not.
I've commented and voted to reopen.

6:28 PM
@EliahKagan thanks :)
I think that particular canonical post is very overused as a dupe target
