Q: regarding some question on yoga

Santanu DebnathYoga means union of atma and paramatma. It's sole purpose is about spiritual. Yoga also helps in curing some disease and brings mental peace. Can I use yoga only for this reason? I mean is it selfish act?

This question is in HNQ, it need better title
Anyway my World turtle question is out of HNQ and lost the chance to get 1k view

S S
@AnkitSharma It can get 1k views
Still in HNQ

@AnkitSharma - WOW , its close to 1k , congratulations πŸ†’, Blazing re-entry πŸ’₯

Q: Is it possible that Hinduism was founded by a Prophet of Allah but has been changed into polytheism?

ArmaanAccording to Dr Zakir Naik, Allah is mentioned in Hindu scriptures: "Allah" in Rigveda Book 2 Hymn I verse II Even in the Rigveda which is the most sacred scripture of the Hindus, one of the attributes given to God Almighty in Book no 2 Hymn no I verse II, is β€˜Ila’ which if pronounced prope...

@SS just checked again, it's not
@SwiftPushkar O.o
@SwiftPushkar we had something like that too from different angle

Q: Who is Allah according to Hinduism?

Khan Who is Allah according to Hinduism? What do Hindu scriptures say about Allah? Are there any references to him in Hindu scriptures? BTW, I saw some blogs stating Shukracharya as Allah and all Muslims as demons in Hinduism.Who is this Shukracharya?

But this Zakir Naik guy is crazy and hardly make sense

6:19 AM
@AnkitSharma - haha yes ,πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜Š nice find

But that question doesn't have nay satisfactory answer to me

@AnkitSharma - Yes ,his videos & works is been banned 🚫
@AnkitSharma - I think the users are defining Allah , like trying to define Para-Brahman , since Allah's saguna rupa isn't available , its most difficult as in case of us i.e. - who is Brahman (Hard to give satisfactory answer) & thats Hinduism's point of view towards looking of Allah πŸ‘πŸ‘

Q: Does Hinduism encourage incest?

Shiva the destroyerI have heard a few stories about the deity brahma and saraswhati.I felt disappointed and I hope it is not true.I hope incest is wrong(incest between daughter and father,brother and sister, and mother and son)is strictly against the law of nature and shouldn't be encouraged in any religion.

Looks suspicious got 1 vote within 5 min 😡 @TheDestroyer πŸ‘†

@SwiftPushkar yeah. that too unregistered.

@SwiftPushkar getting 1 upvote in 5 minute is not a big deal

@AnkitSharma - Yes , i am surprised because the type of enquiry and possibility of any user over here giving upvote without reading the whole q & searching for duplicate

6:30 AM
hmmm
To make it clear I didn't upvoted :P

@SwiftPushkar I think upvoting is useful if he registered.

@TheDestroyer -hmm ok πŸ‘

@TheDestroyer @SwiftPushkar I've got more than 2000 views on my question on Allah on Islam.SE in 18 hours. One of the Main reason was my surname was non Muslim. Now they might come up with the questions but take it positive & see this as opportunity to remove any misconceptions.
Btw, I upvoted because of his name + I also had such doubt. :P

@RohitSinghRathore - ok πŸ‘ , I too read that question & it's quite difficult for scholar's over there to answerπŸ’

@SwiftPushkar there is no concrete conclusion on this there.

6:33 AM
@RohitSinghRathore Any question which will be answered immediately will become Hot question and it hits HNQ. This might be the reason for more views on Islam SE

see whats the spelling -saraswhati , i don't think anyone who atleast know sone english will spell the word like that πŸ˜€
@RohitSinghRathore - Yes , and in their scriptures as well i think 😊

@SwiftPushkar I think Devas don't have physical bodies. So, not sure. But Rudra cuts head of Brahma and this is mentioned in vedas itself.

@TheDestroyer - Yes i know that , but i think that's because Brahma somehow insulted rudra .. & Rudra being furious cuts of his 5 th head. Various reasons might exsist πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ‘

@SwiftPushkar i think for incest Rudra cuts his head. His head represents lust it seems.

@TheDestroyer - Yes , that is also one of the a reason

6:49 AM
@RohitSinghRathore Main reaosn was it got into HNQ
Title was little eye catchy and this kind of question easily go into HNQ
@TheDestroyer Mostly controversial stuff hit HNQ more

7:39 AM
@Tezz - Good answer & nice find about Shree-Sukta. BTW Shreemad Bhagvatam also says somewhat same ,but the difference is its just saying Brahmanas chanted vedic-mantras without mentioning shree-sukta word , & they done this after she came out of the ocean πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸ‘

@SwiftPushkar @TheDestroyer What coincidence are you talking about?

It's just leela of Srinivasa. He wants to stay on earth so that He can remove sins (Vem kata) of people in kali Yuga. — The Destroyer ♦ 5 mins ago
I think this is just a Leela of Lord Vishnu.It is also said that who ever donates money to this temple in the name of lord Venkateswara to help him repay the loan, he blesses them with innumerable riches.So he took the loan inorder to bless his devotees and to give wealth to them by doing this act. — SwiftPushkar 4 mins ago

@SwiftPushkar Even I wanted to comment on that a 5 minutes ago. :) @TheDestroyer

@SS - haha then u are also included in the list by god i think πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜Š

@SS @SwiftPushkar I can answer from video of Chaganti garu but it's better if i can use scripture.

@TheDestroyer - Yeah , try to give by scriptures & then add video as another source πŸ“š & πŸŽ¬πŸ“Ί πŸ‘πŸ‘

@TheDestroyer - TTD , related to tirumala book trust ? or else

S S
@TheDestroyer @SwiftPushkar But scriptures don't have a reason why it happened.

@SwiftPushkar Yes. Tirumala ebooks.

@SS - Yes but we can prove that with another scripture from puranas etc.
@TheDestroyer - ok πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ‘

@SS It has. Venkateswara says the reason when Lakshmi Devi asks him to repay loan (since lakshmi came to Him). he then describes nature of kali Yuga and his purpose of coming and staying there on pretext of loan.
It is there in Venkatachala Mahatyam.

S S
@TheDestroyer It may have in this context. But some like Krishna stealing butter, clothes etc., are are not explained. I am saying in a broader level.

11:11 AM
@SS But reason is to help people of Kali Yuga. This is the main reason.
@SS They have esoteric reasons but this is not deep.

@SS - I think such events are to be experience by heart rather than brain , so they intentionally not given the reason to spread bhakti & love and to bring god too close to ourselves so that we could love him .😊

11:41 AM
@SS Yeah, Alt-Left/SJWs are a becoming a big problem in the US.

@LakshmiNarayanan unable to find meaning of Srinivsana Gadyam :(
@LakshmiNarayanan Btw, how about adding BG or SB in reading seminar? (It may be useful for who want to start. Though I'm unsure who will be participants).

1:36 PM
@Pandya BG means we have to choose some commentaries as well, which ones do you think will be interesting to a beginner?

@LakshmiNarayanan So, do we have to choose commentaries also for a scripture?

@Pandya I think that's a good idea because it will give more material to base discussions off of, what are you thinking?

@LakshmiNarayanan ok. Actually we'll get some clear approach after experiencing 1st seminar I think.
@LakshmiNarayanan I think most of users would have BG but not sure if they have commentaries.

S S
@SwiftPushkar Due to anantalwar's action
@Pandya Meaning of Srinivasa Gadyam?

@Pandya Yeah, the pilot seminar will give us loads of feedback IMHO

1:47 PM
@SS Yeah I mean translation or interpretation in English or Hindi.

@Pandya Do you have it in tamil? I can translate
@Pandya That's fine, we can share via google drive na

@LakshmiNarayanan It's (only original text no translation) available in 9 languages at vignanam.org/veda/sri-srinivasa-gadyam-telugu.html

@Pandya Oh sorry, that's the Sri Ranga Gadyam.

@Pandya It is transliterated not Translated into Tamizh :(

Oh! How has I forget to search at Internet Archive?
@LakshmiNarayanan Yes.

@LakshmiNarayanan Yes. (If possible or available).
@KeshavSrinivasan I think it's not of Gadhya Trayam.

@LakshmiNarayanan I like to read Hard copies though.

@Pandya Ahh ok

What is your current collection? the community answer where people list their works read is up-to-date?
@SS Nice!

@SS Ok. Thanks. Btw, I find some blogs also provide English translation for that verse.
@LakshmiNarayanan are you taking with me?

If I talk of Hard copies, I do currently have 10 Upanishads with Shankara Bhashya, BG, BS, SB, Yog Vashishtha, Rama Charit Manasa, Tatvarth Dipika, Raja Yoga and some miscellaneous scriptures of olden times (some may be worth to mention but I don't remember now)

2:20 PM
That's cool. I agree, hardcopies help a lot when reading as well, i usually make notes when i read, underline etc,.
I have read the Mukhya Upanishads but my memory is abysmal - which was one of the reasons i got attracted to AV when i started out :)

I think @KeshavSrinivasan might have many hard copies that even a big room may not adequate to contain! Haha
@LakshmiNarayanan If I correctly remember you're Thenakalai Sri Vaishnava right?

Haha, I don't doubt that for a second.
@Pandya I'm Vadakalai Sri Vaishnava and Samavedi as well!

@LakshmiNarayanan oh! Vedakkalai & Samavedi! nice :) do you believe in AV or VA?

@Pandya I think you are Samavedi as well? I believe in VA.

@LakshmiNarayanan Yeah I'm also Samavedi and Kauthuma Shaka. Which's yours?
@LakshmiNarayanan You said I got attracted to AV so, just wanted to confirm. Haha

2:36 PM
@Pandya Nice! I forgot - I got my upanayana when i was young and that time i didn't follow these things - have to ask my priest which Shakha i'm in, 😳
@Pandya Yes, I read parts of Vasistha's Yoga and some works of Ramana Maharishi and Nisargadatta Maharaj on recommendation of my Professor, that's how my foray into Hinduism proper began.

@LakshmiNarayanan ok. Yes, you should extract as much information as possible from your parents or priest.

@Pandya Do you know how 997 shakhas of Samaveda got lost?

@LakshmiNarayanan Excellent! AV draws you into Dharma. So, then you might have read VA scriptures to turn back into VA?

@Pandya btw you believe in which philosophy?

@LakshmiNarayanan Yes.

2:42 PM
@Pandya what happened?
@Pandya I don't quite follow, what do you mean by Dharma in this context? Like Sanatana Dharma or the order of the universe Dharma?

@LakshmiNarayanan AV.
@LakshmiNarayanan don't know :(
Btw, we may also lost some Vedic hymns:
5
Q: Does Veda has more than one Samhita regarding to Shakha?

PandyaAs I've discussed here, we know that ancient Rishi heard Vedic hymns in the state of Tapasya (deep mediation) which are called Shruti/Vedas. Vedas are divided into two parts Samhita - the (mantra) part of Veda seen/heard by Rishi & Brahman-Grantha - interpretation & commentaries on Samhita. Now ...

@Pandya IMHO, AV was/is very helpful to sharpen skill in Rhetoric and that flow of establishing Premise, Investigating it and finally redacting it, i really liked that rhythm a lot esp. in Vashistha's Yoga.

@Pandya Haha yeah, I have tons of physical books on Hinduism, and far more books in ebook form.

@LakshmiNarayanan I think we have discussed it before:
Mar 19 at 2:37, by Pandya
@anuvaramban Haha! No, I believe one Param Satya! I may try to unite them (A & VA).

@Pandya lol sorry, my memory sucks. I will remember now that you've pointed it out ;)

2:47 PM
@LakshmiNarayanan Sanatan Dharma. I used according to your use of Hinduism in previous message.

@Pandya Also that was anuvaramban :P
@Pandya Yeah, AV gave me a window into SD when I needed it. However, my experiences tell me VA is the way it is.

@LakshmiNarayanan Yes and I've been observing LakshmiNarayana is quite different than anuvaramban!
@LakshmiNarayanan btw, what's the meaning of anuvaramban or it's just name?

@Pandya Hehe
@Pandya It means Ruler of Atoms. It's a made up name

Ok

Q: Relation of Arya and Dravida with Hindu scriptures like Veda and Aagama

PandyaI don't know much about the history of Arya and Dravida: I've heard that word Arya is found in Hindu Scripture (Veda) and Arya is related to Indus valley civilization while Dravida is related with south India. For example, while reading the difference between Vadakalai & Thenkalai, I've found...

@KrishnShweta Yes, currently it is only for moderation purpose.

3:48 PM
@Pandya Ohoo!! :P
@Pandya Pandya's bot. Cute name ^^

S S
@Pandya I posted a question about maha sankalpam. Do you remember it?
It has all the geographical details. Along with saka purushas, islands, continents etc.,

Actually I have an idea for long time to create a bot that can be useful in this room, that can do reply your messages like. If you ask BG 4.4, it replied with BG verse 4.4 with English translation, if you ask "Who is Shankaracharya?" he may reply one line information and much more tweaks related to Dharmic discussion.... /cc @TheDestroyer @KeshavSrinivasan @Yogi and others (anyone interested or like the idea?)

In that there is are two different regions called Dravida and DrAvida. So I think it is a place name. Not a race.

But to be honest I don't know programming with Java (which is current bot based on). Though I can understand code as having basic knowledge of C.

4:08 PM
@Pandya Why don't you create a post on Meta asking for features with each feature intended as one answer? People can vote on the features they want to see, or add the ones they want to see and we can start working down that list :)
@Pandya I know python!

@LakshmiNarayanan no. I think meta would bot be appropriate place for such discussion it at present.

@LakshmiNarayanan wow! So, are you programmer/developer?

@Pandya btw, MacOS is best for programming. It is based on linux.

@SwiftPushkar Yes. The sanskrit is very good.
I think the author is direct descendant of Anantalwar.

@SS does that maha sankalpa have information about scriptural association?
@TheDestroyer Haha. Btw, why/how do you consider MacOS better than GNU/Linux for programming?

S S
@Pandya I don't know which scripture it is part of. But it is recited during yajnas, Kalyanas like that.

@SS - Yes , and I think it provides scriptural basis for the story also πŸ‘ let's wait for another answers 😊

@Pandya I don't think mac Os is better than Linux but due to Unix based OS, Mac os is better than Windows.

Malayappa swami is the current utsava murti (presiding deity) in Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, Tirumala. Malayappa swami is worshipped during religious ceremonies and processions wherein it would be inappropriate to use the main deity (for example one which requires the deity to be carried or moved). The two deities are worshipped equally and believed to be non-different in personality. The Malayappa deity is classed as a Swayambhu and was discovered in 1339 AD. Initial records state his original name as Malai Kuniya Ninra Perumal (Lord stood on the hill which bowed low to Him) == History == Ugra...

Ugra means anger and the idol which was originally called Venkatatturaivar is supposed to represent the anger aspect of Lord Venkateswara. @TheDestroyer - whts the flowers rule ? is it not to seek anybody's help , mentioned by shree charan

Btw, are Kula Devta & Ishta Devta different or same?

S S
4:49 PM
@Pandya Srinivasa is other name of Venkateshwara. The kula devata of many people in Telugu states is Venkateshwara. So, his name is common. It is not surname.

Srinivas (Sanskrit ΰ€Άΰ₯ΰ€°ΰ₯€ΰ€¨ΰ€Ώΰ€΅ΰ€Ύΰ€Έ) is a name for males in India. The word Srinivas is combination of two Sanskrit words, Sri (ΰ€Άΰ₯ΰ€°ΰ₯€) and nivasa (ΰ€¨ΰ€Ώΰ€΅ΰ€Ύΰ€Έ). == Etymology == Sri means 'radiance' or 'diffusing light'; nivasa means 'place of residence'. Srinivas is a common reference to Venkateswara (Vishnu), who is considered to be the source of light (as a metaphor for life) in Hindu scriptures. Sri has also the meaning of Lakshmi who is rendered to be embodied within Venkateswara. Hence the alternate meaning "One within whom Lakshmi (prosperity) lives". Srinivas is a modernized version of the orig...
