Yoga means union of atma and paramatma. It's sole purpose is about spiritual. Yoga also helps in curing some disease and brings mental peace. Can I use yoga only for this reason? I mean is it selfish act?
According to Dr Zakir Naik, Allah is mentioned in Hindu scriptures:
"Allah" in Rigveda Book 2 Hymn I verse II
Even in the Rigveda which is the most sacred scripture of the Hindus, one of the attributes given to God Almighty in Book no 2 Hymn no I verse II, is βIlaβ which if pronounced prope...
Who is Allah according to Hinduism?
What do Hindu scriptures say about Allah?
Are there any references to him in Hindu scriptures?
BTW, I saw some blogs stating Shukracharya as Allah and all Muslims as demons in Hinduism.Who is this Shukracharya?
@AnkitSharma - Yes ,his videos & works is been banned π«
@AnkitSharma - I think the users are defining Allah , like trying to define Para-Brahman , since Allah's saguna rupa isn't available , its most difficult as in case of us i.e. - who is Brahman (Hard to give satisfactory answer) & thats Hinduism's point of view towards looking of Allah ππ
I have heard a few stories about the deity brahma and saraswhati.I felt disappointed and I hope it is not true.I hope incest is wrong(incest between daughter and father, brother and sister, and mother and son)is strictly against the law of nature and shouldn't be encouraged in any religion.
@AnkitSharma - Yes , i am surprised because the type of enquiry and possibility of any user over here giving upvote without reading the whole q & searching for duplicate
@TheDestroyer @SwiftPushkar I've got more than 2000 views on my question on Allah on Islam.SE in 18 hours. One of the Main reason was my surname was non Muslim. Now they might come up with the questions but take it positive & see this as opportunity to remove any misconceptions.
Btw, I upvoted because of his name + I also had such doubt. :P
@RohitSinghRathore Any question which will be answered immediately will become Hot question and it hits HNQ. This might be the reason for more views on Islam SE
@TheDestroyer - Yes i know that , but i think that's because Brahma somehow insulted rudra .. & Rudra being furious cuts of his 5 th head. Various reasons might exsist πππ
@Tezz - Good answer & nice find about Shree-Sukta. BTW Shreemad Bhagvatam also says somewhat same ,but the difference is its just saying Brahmanas chanted vedic-mantras without mentioning shree-sukta word , & they done this after she came out of the ocean πππ
It's just leela of Srinivasa. He wants to stay on earth so that He can remove sins (Vem kata) of people in kali Yuga. — The Destroyer ♦5 mins ago
I think this is just a Leela of Lord Vishnu. It is also said that who ever donates money to this temple in the name of lord Venkateswara to help him repay the loan, he blesses them with innumerable riches. So he took the loan inorder to bless his devotees and to give wealth to them by doing this act. — SwiftPushkar4 mins ago
@SS It has. Venkateswara says the reason when Lakshmi Devi asks him to repay loan (since lakshmi came to Him). he then describes nature of kali Yuga and his purpose of coming and staying there on pretext of loan.
@SS - I think such events are to be experience by heart rather than brain , so they intentionally not given the reason to spread bhakti & love and to bring god too close to ourselves so that we could love him .π
Lord venkateshwara is adorned with white camphor (that looks like a white spot) on his chin.
What is the story behind this application of camphor at his chin & what's the significance of this?
@SS btw, Canada's Jordan Peterson is a staunch, stoic & acutely perceptive voice in the discussion on PC, SJW & Alt-Liberal vs Free Speech engagement. you should definitely check this out to get a flavour of what's going on -> youtube.com/watch?v=0AuRNff4kvA
@SwiftPushkar He got hit there with an axe if i remember correctly
@LakshmiNarayanan - oh , I came to know about this today while reading vankatachal mahatmya , I just wanted to ask one question about Tirupati-Balaji since long , so got my Chance today πππ
@LakshmiNarayanan unable to find meaning of Srinivsana Gadyam :(
@LakshmiNarayanan Btw, how about adding BG or SB in reading seminar? (It may be useful for who want to start. Though I'm unsure who will be participants).

Btw, I'm planning to purchase & collect some scriptures that I don't have yet in hard copies (like Rigveda, Brihadaranyaka, Skanda Purana, Sharirik Bhashya) from reputed publication after a year.
If I talk of Hard copies, I do currently have 10 Upanishads with Shankara Bhashya, BG, BS, SB, Yog Vashishtha, Rama Charit Manasa, Tatvarth Dipika, Raja Yoga and some miscellaneous scriptures of olden times (some may be worth to mention but I don't remember now)
@Pandya Nice! I forgot - I got my upanayana when i was young and that time i didn't follow these things - have to ask my priest which Shakha i'm in, π³
@Pandya Yes, I read parts of Vasistha's Yoga and some works of Ramana Maharishi and Nisargadatta Maharaj on recommendation of my Professor, that's how my foray into Hinduism proper began.
As I've discussed here, we know that ancient Rishi heard Vedic hymns in the state of Tapasya (deep mediation) which are called Shruti/Vedas. Vedas are divided into two parts Samhita - the (mantra) part of Veda seen/heard by Rishi & Brahman-Grantha - interpretation & commentaries on Samhita.
Now ...
@Pandya IMHO, AV was/is very helpful to sharpen skill in Rhetoric and that flow of establishing Premise, Investigating it and finally redacting it, i really liked that rhythm a lot esp. in Vashistha's Yoga.
I don't know much about the history of Arya and Dravida:
I've heard that word Arya is found in Hindu Scripture (Veda) and Arya is related to Indus valley civilization while Dravida is related with south India.
For example, while reading the difference between Vadakalai & Thenkalai, I've found...
Actually I have an idea for long time to create a bot that can be useful in this room, that can do reply your messages like. If you ask BG 4.4, it replied with BG verse 4.4 with English translation, if you ask "Who is Shankaracharya?" he may reply one line information and much more tweaks related to Dharmic discussion.... /cc @TheDestroyer @KeshavSrinivasan @Yogi and others (anyone interested or like the idea?)
Many are aware about the saαΉkalpaαΉ which is recited during rituals like saαΉdhyΔ vandanam, vratas etc., But there is another mantra called Mahasankalpa(pronounced MahΔ saαΉkalpaαΉ in IAST). Sankalpa tells the place, time and purpose of doing that ritual. But MahΔ saαΉkalpaαΉ consists of not only place...
@LakshmiNarayanan oh! Currently it is only in imagination. i'll think regarding it after at least one or two users can Hel with writing bot or until I learn Java or Python.
@Pandya Why don't you create a post on Meta asking for features with each feature intended as one answer? People can vote on the features they want to see, or add the ones they want to see and we can start working down that list :)
@Pandya Maybe after one or two months, i will join in development of bot. i want to release my IOS app for which i need Macbook. So, i'm quite busy with that work.
It is due to an action done by AnantΔαΈ»vΔr. (ΔαΈ»vΔr is added as a suffix to great bhaktas in Vaishnava tradition like GarudΔαΈ»vΔr etc.,)
. AnantΔαΈ»vΔr is one of the disciples of Sri Ramanujacharya. After Ramanujacharya has solved the dispute on who the deity on the Tirumala hills, he appointed simhΔ...
@Pandya MacOS needs Macbook (though hackintosh is there but that's waste of time). And XCode needs latest MacOS. We can develop Apple apps only from MacOS and it uses many frameworks of MacOS
@Pandya btw, MacOS is best for programming. It is based on linux.
Malayappa swami is the current utsava murti (presiding deity) in Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, Tirumala. Malayappa swami is worshipped during religious ceremonies and processions wherein it would be inappropriate to use the main deity (for example one which requires the deity to be carried or moved). The two deities are worshipped equally and believed to be non-different in personality.
The Malayappa deity is classed as a Swayambhu and was discovered in 1339 AD. Initial records state his original name as Malai Kuniya Ninra Perumal (Lord stood on the hill which bowed low to Him)

Ugra Srinivasa is one of the idols in the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple at Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh. Ugra means anger and the idol which was originally called Venkatatturaivar is supposed to represent the anger aspect of Lord Venkateswara. He is also known as Snapana Murti.
== Legend ==
Legend has it that fire broke out in the village destroying houses during Brahmotsavam at Tirumala in the 14th century A.D. When prayers were offered to the God, a vision appeared to a devotee with a message from Lord Srinivasa himself. With the change in times, the Ugra Srinivasa idol could no longer remain the...
Bhoga Srinivasa is a silver deity that is a near replica of the main deity (Dhruva Bera) of the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh. The lord is also known as Manavalapperumal or Kautuka Bera. The deity is utilized for performing daily Abhishekam ceremony (as part of Thomala Seva) and daily Ekanta Seva. The deity is believed to imbibe the essence of the Dhruva Bera as well as grant devotees' wishes.
Bhoga Srinivasa was consecrated to the temple in 614 by Pallava queen Samavai (also known as Kadavan-Perundevi) along with donation of land and gold to the temple. The idol is a...
@Pandya Srinivasa is other name of Venkateshwara. The kula devata of many people in Telugu states is Venkateshwara. So, his name is common. It is not surname.
Srinivas (Sanskrit ΰ€Άΰ₯ΰ€°ΰ₯ΰ€¨ΰ€Ώΰ€΅ΰ€Ύΰ€Έ) is a name for males in India. The word Srinivas is combination of two Sanskrit words, Sri (ΰ€Άΰ₯ΰ€°ΰ₯) and nivasa (ΰ€¨ΰ€Ώΰ€΅ΰ€Ύΰ€Έ).
== Etymology ==
Sri means 'radiance' or 'diffusing light'; nivasa means 'place of residence'. Srinivas is a common reference to Venkateswara (Vishnu), who is considered to be the source of light (as a metaphor for life) in Hindu scriptures.
Sri has also the meaning of Lakshmi who is rendered to be embodied within Venkateswara. Hence the alternate meaning "One within whom Lakshmi (prosperity) lives".
Srinivas is a modernized version of the orig...
As I discuss in this question, by far the most popular school of Hindu philosophy is the Vedanta school, which bases its tenets on the doctrines laid out in the Brahma Sutras, a work by the sage Vyasa that summarizes and systematizes the philosophical teachings of the Upanishads. You can read the...
