Hi all, I cannot sit on my left leg during salah, because it is very not comfortable and it hurts (I guess my born structure is different), what can I do?
i've never understood that whole left-leg thing. i just sit.
i'd much rather concentrate on my prayer than on my feet.

the thing is, I cannot sit with my legs bent behind under my ass...
@goldPseudo it hurts my kness and legs, so how do you sit?
@goldPseudo btw, the sitting on left leg is sunnah in a sahih collection.
@mezhang it's a hadith in a sahih collection. there's a difference.
@mezhang i just kneel with my heels under my butt. that's just how i naturally kneel.
you should be focussed on the prayer; if it hurts to pray, the pain will distract you. sit however you can sit without pain.
(also without bothering people praying in congregation with you)

foisted. Foisted. Because that's not a judgmental word at all.

@DavidWallace yes, but there are also many Christian lunatics for example, but people dont seem to judge the whole religion based on some extremists.
^^ One of the benefits of being in the majority.
13:17
@TRiG What a depressing collection of comments on that post! Do the majority of people in UK really think that way? Such horrible bigots! It was hard to find a single positive comment among that lot.
13:53
@DavidWallace Comments on online newspapers are what they are. As a general rule, do not read them.
But yeesh, you're right. That lot is painfully bad. But what I really want to know is who wrote that headline.
> This is sure to violate school rules against teaching pornography, brutality, sexual deviation, body mutilation, lying, murder, personal hygiene, family values and violence! Just to name a few!
True. But exactly the same applies to teaching Christianity.
@MoriDoweedhYa3gob up to the highest height

Yesterday, I fasted just like the Muslims :)
I'm glad to not have to do that every day
15:18
I guess it's different from a Muslim fast because it's 25 hours rather than just during daylight
But I'd rather fast for 25 hours once rather than 16 hours every day for a month
Muz
Muz
It's 14 hours here near the equator :P
but it's not that bad once you get used to it... eat a lot of proteins in the morning, drink a lot of water
though I suppose it's a lot easier for those of us whose jobs don't require sweating
15:41
it's a lot easier to do a job that requires sweating when you're half asleep. really feel the lack of caffeine when i'm sitting at a desk for eight hours a day.
also, fasting is closer to 19 hours up here. that's also fun.
16:11
@trig what?
@MoriDoweedhYa3gob He's replying to your fly a kite comment
16:23
@MoriDoweedhYa3gob and send it soaring.
@daniel ah
@trig you want to join the kite flying team?
@MoriDoweedhYa3gob I think he's just auditioning for his local performance of Mary Poppins
@daniel that's umbrellas
@MoriDoweedhYa3gob And kites.
@trig dragon quilts?
16:27
@MoriDoweedhYa3gob He's quoting lyrics to a song in Mary Poppins about flying a kite
"Let's Go Fly A Kite" is a song from Walt Disney's film Mary Poppins, composed by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. This song is heard at the end of the film when the story's protagonist, George Banks (played by David Tomlinson), realizes that his family is more important than his job. He mends his son's kite and takes his family on a kite-flying outing. The song is sung by Tomlinson, Dick Van Dyke and eventually the entire chorus. In keeping with Mr. Banks' change in character, this song was pre-recorded, and thus sung normally, by Tomlinson, rather than in his previous talk-s...
@daniel I understand that
@trig as you can see by my ignorance of the lyrics that I didn't watch this movie. Heard of it but didn't watch
@MoriDoweedhYa3gob Ah, 'twas part of my childhood.
@trig I'm not 90 :)
@MoriDoweedhYa3gob wow, Masha'Allah!
16:31
@al lol :)
@MoriDoweedhYa3gob I'm only 2 or 3 years older and I watched that movie weekly!
Inshallah I will make it to 90 with Allah's swt help
Ameen
@AlUmmat He said he's not 90 :)
@daniel I dont really watch tv or movies
ah I see, the "not" I thought you said you were 90, my bad ;)
16:34
@daniel when I was a kid I would watch my share of 90s cartoons and such. And that's really it. If I watch something I watch those cartoons online for nostalgia purposes. The good old pampered days how I yearn for us to meet again!

A: WHY are dogs (as pets) considerd haram?

koljaIn my personal experience questioning religious dogmas and asking for reasons and logic in them is not very productive endeavour. They are as they are. They are to be upheld, not questioned and subjugated to rational thinking. If you ask about religious reasons why dogs could be considered as h...

Q: is Birth control forbidden in islam?

MoshiiBirth control is forbidden in islam. But it is a question that how poor people can afford to raise so many child, also some women consider this as their violation of right and say we are not factory of giving birth child. I can't find any answer of these. It will be my pleasure if any one give an...

the title contradicts the question, they ask is it haram then they go on automatically assuming it is
@NesreenA Yeah, seems like the title should be changed
But perhaps that question is worthwhile to have, as well
i know of hadith wherein it's discouraged, but i don't recall ever hearing it's haram (at least, not so long as both parties are aware of it)

@goldPseudo I was taught in religion class that it's perfectly acceptable, and about the money aspect, there is a hadith or a verse in the quran that says that one shouldn't take money in consideration when thinking of having a child because Allah will be sufficient aid
islam.stackexchange.com/questions/2808/… googled it and this was one of the first links :)
@NesreenA "And do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Indeed, their killing is ever a great sin." Al-Isra:31
yes it was in one of the answers!
the problem with education here is they teach it to us and give us no references
I'm expected to take what the professor says as the ultimate truth
nothing really wrong with that. just as long as you're willing to seek out the truth rather than just take others at their word.
even teachers aren't necessarily experts in what they're teaching. they're experts at teaching, there's a difference. :)
23:22
@goldPseudo Killing children is hardly the same thing as not conceiving them in the first place, is it?
@TRiG not really (abortion notwithstanding). the general meaning of "We provide for them and for you" is still important to note though.

Q: Should we tighten our scope?

goldPseudoCurrently, our scope is defined in the Help Centre as: Islam Stack Exchange is for Muslims, experts in Islam, and those interested in learning more about Islam. The Stack Exchange model works best by focussing on one particular area of expertise. Our current scope, however, includes three ...
