1:09 AM
I don't know if anyone is actually interested or not, but as promised, I am in the process of uploading a video demonstrating my speech recognition on the Pi Zero. I will update my answer here: meta.raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/a/676/33979 with a link when the video is done uploading to YouTube.

1:21 AM
I'm alive!

1:54 AM
Anyone know what this is? I think it clamps on to some cables and stuff
I think it's the same with the round things on VGA cables.

It looks like a fuel ionizer.
@PandaLion98: looks like a fuel ionizer, what it's probably a ferrite core. They're made to reduce interference.

2:51 AM
Yeah, forgot to mention that. The stuff inside is the same stuff I find in inductors (ferrite).
Hopefully the anti-interference works as advertised.

3:51 AM
Hello everybody
I'm just a person that never did anything with raspberry pi, but I'm interested on learning how to use it for DIY, but I don't wanna be a kind of person that only knows how to copy guides
where i could start my journey? Any good books, online courses or something like that ?
I have basic linux skills
and what i want to do is mostly basic automation, setting up some sensors with raspberry pi and do some basic remote automation..things like that

@Freedo Have you looked around online? You are likely a better judge of your own interests and abilities than anyone here could be off the cuff. Different people get into the pi in different ways. If you are just learning to program, sensors may be a bit tricky, although that depends on the sensor and what pre-existing pi compatible code there is for it. The usual place to start with controlling electronics is buttons and leds; from that you can learn some basic fundamental things
about circuits, and then decide where to go.
Keep in mind that you probably won't be putting a pi into orbit or automating your home in the near future unless you already have some relevant skills.

I just pulled out my Pi 1 B+ from storage. Attached power and SD card then booted. Solid red and green light.
I thought it was dead.
But then I saw the SD cardboard box freshly opened. There was literally nothing on the card.
Just sharing. Carry on.

@Freedo have a look at the MagPi, it's 40+ issues published with many different projects shown. Certainly worthwhile to skim through to get some ideas.

6 hours later…
5:28 PM
This is going to be a really shitty term, I can tell already.

5:39 PM
how so

My senior project... Turns out, I need an alpha product in 6 weeks, and a working beta in 10. I still have no access to the company's infrastructure, and no real idea on how it works.

sounds challenging

Infuriating. The company we're working with has been extremely frustrating to get information from. And for some reason, we didn't find out about the paperwork they needed completed until after an entire term spent planning the project :-/
So, yeah. No idea how long that will take :P

you'll manage!
(hopefully :-P )

Here's hoping

2 hours later…
8:17 PM
Peter Jackson, cursed be thy name

@Ghanima: why?

for turning hundred pages book into three overlong movies

That bothered, me, but honestly... it was one of the least objectionable things in that damn adaptation.

don't mention albino orcs!

How about the fact that they magically got ahold of two barrels in the barrel fight escape?
Or riding a thin wheel barrow on a molten river of gold without any sort of burn, let alone death?

8:29 PM
oh shut up ;)

Or that a pillar can protect you from fire hot enough to melt said gold?

all the molten gold situations are equally wrongish

Yeah.

1 hour later…
9:54 PM
SO has a reduced ads privilege, crazy
edit rampage, @Jacobm001?
the eagles are coming!

@Ghanima I've been going through old questions, and there's a badge for it. So... yeah :P
Less than 400 to go for the gold badge :P

copy editor?

@Ghanima Assholes always show up late.
Yeah
I'm getting really close to "electorate". Just 43 left.

you're working on next years moderator nominations already

"Be Prepared"
Currently, I'm just bored as hell.

10:01 PM
work your project

The one I mentioned earlier?
Currently out of my hands.

ok, work on your SO reputation
@SteveRobillard and I developed the idea to implant you as a mod over there so you could redirect all the nice raspberry questions they withhold from the one true place

Lol, with a rep of 248!?
Now that would be a trick!

i am worse off, 160 something
coming to think of low rep, how long was Gollum in that cave?
some hundred years?

Yeah, long ass time.

10:06 PM
I really wonder how he could do the riddle things with Bilbo

I believe it was north of 400 years.
But he was less than 600 years old if iirc.
@Ghanima For a long time my highest rep was actually english.stackoverflow.com. Weird for a programmer, but whatever P:

indeed

10:30 PM
399 and counting ;)

@Ghanima: what about bacon?

your schematics reads beacon when it should be bacon ;)
nevermind
$90bn, frak me

@Ghanima ?
bn as in billion?

as in billion
the volkswagen story

What could possibly cost that much?
Ah.

10:35 PM
that's just the amount they're sued for in the US

Well, it's not like they don't deserve it.
But yeah, it's hard to comprehend that kind of cash.
Well, there's two old answers. Hopefully one of those is good for the Necromancer badge :P

I should delete your answer before the badge is awarded
;)
why would they make the compute modules in the first place?
ever read something about sales numbers or successful projects?

11:22 PM
@Ghanima: one of them would need 5 up votes. Seems unlikely
I saw one successful project on Kickstart we that used it as the heart of a media center, but that's it.

@goldilocks you may want to check newark/element 14 and adafruit tomorrow the 6th has been rumored in more than one place as when new pi 0 stock will drop. Hopefully it will free up adafruit to sell just the boards and newark to lower the price to the advertised $5 they had some crazy price (like ubers surge pricing)

11:45 PM
@Jacobm001 hmm, seems like an aweful amount of effort for nearly no bang

@Ghanima I agree. But the foundation makes a lot of odd choices IMHO.

like configuring static IPs in dhcpd.conf ;)

Or the video core choice. It's an awfully tight chip for an educational e
Device

@Ghanima and releasing this devil child of a change with little notice

maybe we should be lucky to not have the rpi questions that linger about on SO
it's mostly W10 IOT
