Arithmetic dynamics is a field that amalgamates two areas of mathematics, dynamical systems and number theory. Classically, discrete dynamics refers to the study of the iteration of self-maps of the complex plane or real line. Arithmetic dynamics is the study of the number-theoretic properties of integer, rational, p-adic, and/or algebraic points under repeated application of a polynomial or rational function. A fundamental goal is to describe arithmetic properties in terms of underlying geometric structures.
Global arithmetic dynamics is the study of analogues of classical diophantine geometry...

Is it a good idea to create a tag called "algebraic dynamics" and make it a tag synonym for "arithmetic dynamics"? (See this question on what is algebraic dynamics, noting that Silverman says that there is no firm line between arithmetic dynamics and algebraic dynamics in The Arithmetic of Dynam...

Could somebody please give a big picture description of what exactly is the object of study in the area of Algebraic Dynamics? Is it related to Dynamical Systems? If yes in what sense? Also, what is the main mathematical discipline underpinning Algebraic Dynamics? Is it algebraic geometry, differ...

meta tag-suggestion There was a discussion in another room about a new tag on meta - although it's a bit unclear to me what kind of tag is actuallyintended.

@Hardmath. I think that should be your call, but we may benefit from coming up with a meta-tag that acts as a call for quality threads on a specified topic. Any suggestions?

@JyrkiLahtonen I took a look at existing tags, esp. those on the meta Question that asked about the meaning of canonical answer desired for offering a bounty. I also looked at the discussion of terminology Abstract duplicate vs. canonical question.

In short we have diverse terms for closely related topics. Maybe it is better to create a new tag, ask for forgiveness rather than permission.

@hardmath I would say that you can trust your common sense, and use whatever tag you think is prudent. In other words, I like the approach of ask for forgiveness rather than permission :-). If a tag is later found misleading, or a better idea comes up, we can refine the guidelines at that time.

I have to admit that it's unclear to me what tag (for what topic) is actually proposed. Anyway, we could discuss this further in the tagging chatroom, if needed.
The two posts which are linked in those comments are: Abstract duplicates vs. canonical question and Please give a clearer definition of “canonical answer” as reason for bounty.
